The latest edition of a classic text on concurrency and distributed programming - from a winner of the ACM/SIGCSE Award for Outstanding Contribution to Computer Science Education.
Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS) involve substituting machines capable of performing a wide and redefinable variety of tasks for machines dedicated to the performance of specific tasks. FMS can also be programmed to handle new products, thus extending the machines' life cycles. Thus they represent a change from "standardized goods produced by customized machines" to "customized goods produced by standardized machines." This volume contains new and updated material in this field, and will be of great interest to researchers, managers and students concerned with problems related to flexible manufacturing systems.
Israel's 2003 election took place against the background of a
deteriorating security situation (due to Palestinian violence and
the impending US War in Iraq) and severe disillusionment with the
Oslo peace process. The election, which brought about a decisive
victory of the Likud Party and Ariel Sharon, took place amidst
strong accusations of corruption and the virtual collapse of the
Israeli left. The election also featured the rise of the
anti-clerical Shinui party, which resulted in the exclusion of the
ultra-Orthodox parties from the new coalition. In this volume,
leading Israeli political scientists explore the main actors and
processes that shaped the election and its outcome.
The 1999 Israeli elections focused on the character of the main political contenders for prime minister - Binyamin Netanyahu and Ehud Barak. Along with Barak's victory, the Israeli public made important statements concerning the shape and direction of Israeli political culture with a hope of a centrist vision. Leading Israeli political scientists discuss the revival of the Israeli left and the increased strength of ethnic Sephardi, Russian and Arab electorates. They also examine the place of foreign policy, media, and other socio-economic factors on the outcome of the election.
This introductory textbook links theory with practice using real illustrative cases involving products, plants and infrastructures and exposes the student to the evolutionary trends in maintenance. * Provides an interdisciplinary approach which links, engineering, science, technology, mathematical modelling, data collection and analysis, economics and management * Blends theory with practice illustrated through examples relating to products, plants and infrastructures * Focuses on concepts, tools and techniques * Identifies the special management requirements of various engineered objects (products, plants, and infrastructures)
The contents of this monograph "Hypothalamic Control of Lacta tion" are the result of studies by a nine-man team which has worked together for nine years. The topic is so fascinating that new research students are attracted to it every year, and the circle is growing steadily. This is, in fact, part of a much more extensive research field to which our Department is applying itself at present, viz. "Hypo thalamic Pharmacology." Our work in this sphere was made possible by a generous grant from the United States Department of Agriculture, which helped us during the first 5 years of research with Grant No. FG-IS-147, Project No. A10-AH-3, and recently with another grant for a further 5-year period, No. FG-IS-259, Project No. A10-AH-33. Our thanks are due to Dr. JOEL BITMAN, Hormone Physiology Leader of the USDA Agri cultural Research Service at Beltsville, Md., the sponsor of this research. As this monograph contains mainly references connected with our own work, the reader who wishes to make a survey of lactation should study the references cited in the bibliography, such as COWIE (1961, 1966), COWIE and FOLLEY (1957, 1961), FOLLEY (1952, 1956), JACOB SOHN (1961), LYONS and DIXON (1966), MEITES (1959a, 1961, 1966), MEITES and NICOLL (1966)."
Only a few years ago, most treatises on sonography covered all the diagnostic applications of ultrasound, de scribing organs from the brain down to the placenta. Dr. Bruneton and his associates must be thanked for pre senting this book devoted to the spleen. It probably offers the most complete presentation of details and the richest images available in its field. This book will thus become the ultimate reference in most libraries of books on son ography. March 1988 F. The focus of this book is risk assessment methodologies for network architecture design. The main goal is to present and illustrate an innovative risk propagation-based quantitative assessment tool. This original approach aims to help network designers and security administrators to design and build more robust and secure network topologies. As an implementation case study, the authors consider an aeronautical network based on AeroMACS (Aeronautical Mobile Airport Communications System) technology. AeroMACS has been identified as the wireless access network for airport surface communications that will soon be deployed in European and American airports mainly for communications between aircraft and airlines. It is based on the IEEE 802.16-2009 standard, also known as WiMAX.The book begins with an introduction to the information system security risk management process, before moving on to present the different risk management methodologies that can be currently used (quantitative and qualitative). In the third part of the book, the authors' original quantitative network risk assessment model based on risk propagation is introduced. Finally, a network case study of the future airport AeroMACS system is presented. This example illustrates how the authors' quantitative risk assessment proposal can provide help to network security designers for the decision-making process and how the security of the entire network may thus be improved. Information and communication technologies have increased their share of services in contemporary economic exchanges. We are witnessing a transformation of modern economies characterized by a predominant role of information and knowledge in the production of wealth. In order to make this intangible resource bear fruit, organizations are looking for ways, methods, procedures, processes and technical solutions to efficiently manage knowledge Within a framework of research into synergies and resource interdependence, organizations also rely on strategic alliances (joint venture), mergers or other legal forms of association that have an impact on knowledge management. This book explores the range of knowledge management techniques.
Mother-child and father-child psychology is a psychodynamic - developmental approach to relatively short-term treatment of relational disturbances in young children. The mother-child, father-child and mother-father dyads meet in weekly meetings with the same therapist in the same physical set up.The therapist as a participant observer in recurrent patterns of interactions and relations within the dyads, explicitly conveys to each parent that his/her unique role to their child is to be respected and validated. The approach is practised as a diagnostic assessment tool to help in the placing of pathology, as a preparation, in some cases, for individual therapy for the child or simultaneous treatment for child and parent, and as a treatment of choice for the relational disturbances between parents and their developmentally prelatency children. This book provides an overview of theoretical similarities and differences in basic aspects of the parent-child therapies, and offers a detailed description of the main features of a new model that enhances the parents' and the child's experiential learning.
This publication presents a wide compendium of approaches to Jewish-Arab dialogue and conflict resolution from an interdisciplinary perspective based on political science, social psychology and cultural studies, integrating both theory and practice. It combines both qualitative analysis with quantitative empirical results based on case studies. It appeals to both researchers and practitioners. It promises to offer a treatment of innovative and timely themes such as religious diplomacy, interreligious dialogue and relationship building in Israeli mixed cities and the place of both idealism and realism or both power and dialogue in the advancement of inter-religious approaches to dialogue and cooperation between Jews and Arabs in the Middle East. The book also includes a focus on conflict resolution strategies rooted in the Jewish Political Tradition which is relevant to the larger discussion of religion, dialogue and conflict resolution.
