The internationalization of financial markets is one of the focal points in the discussion about recent globalization trends. These discussions suggest that capital can move freely between countries. However, there is ample evidence that national borders do matter and that there are many implicit and explicit barriers to integration. Understanding the factors that unify and that separate financial markets and thus reconciling these two stylized facts is at the core of this book. While the main focus of the empirical work is on banking industry, results are yet informative also with regard to developments in other financial market segments. Also, the book uses European financial integration as a case study for general integration trends.
The application of extracorporeal shock waves in the locomotor apparatus offers new therapeutic concepts. This book provides an up-to-date overview on the use of shock waves in orthopaedics. The main emphasis is laid on the basics of shock wave techniques and on the impact of shock waves on cells and organs. The reader is provided with a summary of experimental and clinical results of shock wave therapy applied to the bone and the epiphyseal growth plate. Authors from five clinical centres report on their experiences with shock wave therapy in tendinosis calcarea, epicondylopathy and calcar spur. Furthermore they report on first experiences with shock wave therapy in children with cerebral paresis.

What is the future design of Air Mobility Command (AMC) aircraft? One possible answer is a blended-wing-body design. The research problem examined in this report is to determine if a future Blended-Wing Body (BWB) aircraft will be more capable as compared to a more conventional design, the C-17. This research shows the capability of the BWB configuration using an AFIT-developed model called AMPCALC and a cost analysis based on those results. There are two major issues when assessing a BWB aircraft: capability and fuel savings. This research tries to answer if a BWB aircraft, such as being designed by Boeing with NASA and the AF Research Labs, is more capable than a C-17 and what are the potential fuel savings for operating a BWB aircraft over the C-17. This is an early look into the BWB configuration and its merits for consideration as a potential strategic airlifter. The BWB design must now be evaluated to be considered as a future replacement for current AMC airlift aircraft. This research gives decision makers an idea of the possible benefits of this revolutionary concept.
