The impact of nutrition on the health and welfare of the horse, whether performing at the highest athletic level or for leisure use, cannot be underestimated. Het museum Meermanno-Westreenianum bezit een kleine, maar boeiende afdeling Egyptische oudheden, die de Haagse verzamelaar W.H.J. Baron van Westreenen van Tiellandt (1783-1848) in enkele decennia bijeen wist te brengen. Dit boek bevat een uitgebreide studie over een van de topstukken uit de Egyptische collectie van het museum: de beroemde papyrus van Vivant Denon met de tekst van Het Boek van het Ademen. De auteurs, Jan Quaegebeur, hoogleraar egyptologie aan de Katholieke Universiteit Leuven en Mar Coenen, aspirant van het Belgisch NFWO, zijn erin geslaagd een aantrekkelijk boek te schrijven dat niet alleen vakgenoten bedient, maar ook toegankelijk is voor de geinteresseerde leek. Stap voor stap worden wij meegenomen op een speurtocht naar de herkomst en betekenis van dit overblijfsel uit de Oudegyptische dodenliteratuur. Boeiend wordt verhaald hoe deze papyrus in de Napoleontische tijd naar Europa kwam en op welke wijze dit historisch document uiteindelijk in de collectie van Baron van Westreenen belandde.
