material on its area.
Using key perspectives from Linguistic anthropology the book
illuminates how social actors take up the ideals of law, equality,
and democratic representation in locally-meaningful ways to make
their own national history in ways that may perpetuate violence and
inequality. Focusing specifically on post-war conditions in
Ireland, the author contextualizes commonplace practices by which
citizens are made to learn the gap between official membership in
and political belonging to a democratic state. Each chapter takes
up a different aspect of state authority and power to constitute
citizenship, to enact laws, to mediate conflict, and to create
histories in the context of social inequalities and political
hostilities. This book is an excellent ethnographic addition to
courses in linguistic anthropology, giving readers the opportunity
to explore applications and ramifications of key theoretical text
within research.

Rapid advances continue to be made in all areas of immunology, not
least the biology of the immunoglobulins. This knowledge has
resulted in a better understanding of antibody responses and helped
to clarify pathogenic mechanisms in many diseases, particularly
autoimmune and allergic diseases, as well as expand our
comprehension of antibody deficiency diseases and mechanisms in
therapeutic immunization. In addition, the recognition that diverse
disease states may result in abnormalities of the amount of
immunoglobulins in body fluids has resulted in the use of
immunoglobulin assays for disease diagnosis and management. The aim
of this book has been to condense both the established and recent
aspects of this knowledge, particularly that pertaining to clinical
immunology. The contributions of different authors hopefully
provide a comprehensive review of their particular field of
interest as well as a discussion of how this information can be
applied to clinical medicine. Immunological terms and concepts have
been explained where appropriate so that the book can be read by
those with only a basic knowledge of immunology. In producing a
book on this one area of immunology some duplication of information
has been accepted so that topics can be considered in different
contexts. I hope the book will be of value to those in training or
already pursuing a career in clinical or laboratory medicine by
providing a basic and short text on immunoglobulins. M.A.H.F.

Anthropological Lives introduces readers to what it is like to be a
professional anthropologist. It focuses on the work
anthropologists do, the passions they have, the way that being an
anthropologist affects the kind of life they lead. The book draws
heavily on the experiences of twenty anthropologists interviewed by
Virginia R. Dominguez and Brigittine M. French, as well as on the
experiences of the two coauthors. Many different kinds of
anthropologists are represented, and the book makes a point of
discussing their commonalities as well as their differences. Some
of the anthropologists included work in the academy, some work
outside the academy, and some work in institutions like museums.
Included are cultural anthropologists, linguistic anthropologists,
medical anthropologists, biological anthropologists, practicing
anthropologists, and anthropological archaeologists. A fascinating
look behind the curtain, the stories in Anthropological Lives will
inform anyone who has ever wondered what you do with a degree in
anthropology.

Speech analytics utilizes speech recognition, predictive analytics,
and authentication of the data streams while assessing customers'
complaints in real-time. Assessment occurs through the collection
and analysis of current data mixed with historical facts to
determine patterns and to predict trends. In the current research,
the authors have chosen to focus primarily on speech analytics,
serving as an umbrella term encompassing speech analytics,
audio-mining technologies. The use of speech analytics typically
refers to a broader range of speech products, such as analyzing
voice identification, emotion detection, and phonetics/speech
analysis. Speech Analytics for Actionable Insights proceeds with
the discussion of an overview of enterprise needs for speech
analytics, a brief history of the speech recognition, the
infrastructure of phonetic versus transcription approaches and
real-time versus post-call solutions, major speech analytics
vendors and their features, applications found within case studies,
and recommendations and guidance. The primary goal of this
monograph is to help business decision-makers educate themselves on
the burgeoning field of speech analytics as well as to understand
how it impacts the broader enterprise landscape.
