The sexual exploitation of a child by one who has been recognized as a representative of God is a sinister assault on that person 's psychosocial and spiritual well-being. Many survivors of such abuse present with a range of symptoms consistent with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder as well as common co-occurring problems, including substance abuse, affective lability, and relational conflicts. Yet there are additional themes, particularly the impact of the abuse and institutional betrayal on the family, profound alteration in individual spirituality, and changes in individual and family religious practices, which differentiate this abuse from other traumas. Understanding the profound and multidimensional effects of clergy perpetrated sexual abuse and the betrayal of trust by religious leaders on individuals, families and communities requires the collective wisdom of many voices. This book brings together the perspectives of survivors, practitioners and scholars to examine this unique form of interpersonal violence from theoretical, clinical and spiritual perspectives with consideration given to future research needs. This book was published as a special issue of the Journal of Child Sex Abuse.
With traumatic stress an increasing global challenge, the U.N., the NGO community and governments must take into account the psychological aftermath of large-scale catastrophes and individual or group violence. This volume addresses this global perspective, and provides a conceptual framework for interventions in the wake of abuse, torture, war, and disaster on individual, local, regional, and international levels. To be useful to both practitioners and policymakers, the book identifies model programs that can be implemented at every level.
"Creative industries in China" provides a fresh account of China's emerging commercial cultural sector. The author shows how developments in Chinese art, design and media industries are reflected in policy, in market activity, and grassroots participation. Never has the attraction of being a media producer, an artist, or a designer in China been so enticing. National and regional governments offer financial incentives; consumption of cultural goods and services have increased; creative workers from Europe, North America and Asia are moving to Chinese cities; culture is increasingly positioned as a pillar industry. But what does this mean for our understanding of Chinese society? Can culture be industrialised following the low-cost model of China's manufacturing economy. Is the national government really committed to social liberalisation? This engaging book is a valuable resource for students and scholars interested in social change in China. It draws on leading Chinese scholarship together with insights from global media studies, economic geography and cultural studies.
In 1997 the National Institute of Mental Health assembled a working group of international experts to address the mental health consequences of torture and related violence and trauma; report on the status of scientific knowledge; and include research recommendations with implications for treatment, services, and policy development. This book, dedicated to those who experience the horrors of torture and those who work to end it, is based on that report.

The applications of ergodic theory to metric number theory are well known; part of the latter theory turns out to be essentially a special case of general ergodic theorems. In the present book other applications of ergodic concepts are presented. Constructing "flows" of integral points on certain algebraic manifolds given by systems of integral polynomials, we are able to prove individual ergodic theorems and mixing theorems in certain cases. These theorems permit asymptotic calculations of the distributions of integral points on such manifolds, and we arrive at results inaccessible up to now by the usual methods of analytic number theory. Typical in this respect is the theorem concerning the asymptotic distribution and ergodic behavior of the set of integral points on the sphere X2+ y2+z2=m for increasing m. It is not known up until now how to obtain the simple and geometrically obvious regularity of the distribution of integral points on the sphere other than by ergodic methods. Systems of diophantine equations are studied with our method, and flows of integral points introduced for this purpose turn out to be closely connected with the behavior of ideal classes of the corresponding algebraic fields, and this behavior shows certain ergodic regularity in sequences of algebraic fields. However, in this book we examine in this respect only quadratic fields in sufficient detail, studying fields of higher degrees only in chapter VII.

Now in an extensively revised third edition with 65% new material, this is the authoritative reference on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Contributors examine the breadth of current knowledge on the mechanisms by which stressful events can alter psychological processes, brain function, and individual behavior. Risk and protective factors across development and in specific populations are explored. Reviewing the state of the science of assessment and treatment, the volume covers early intervention and evidence-based individual, couple/family, and group therapies. Conceptual and diagnostic issues are addressed and key questions for the next generation of researchers are identified. New to This Edition *Thoroughly revised to reflect the accelerating pace of scientific and clinical progress; includes a range of new authors. *Chapters on new topics: treatment of PTSD with comorbid disorders, and postmortem brain banking. *New chapters on previously covered topics, including DSM-5 and ICD-11 diagnostic criteria, the psychoneurobiology of resilience, and challenges in implementing clinical best practices. *New or updated discussions of such timely issues as treatment of refugees, telemental health, and technology-based interventions.

Events that lead to traumatic brain injury are often also psychologically traumatic. Addressing a growing need among mental health practitioners, this authoritative book brings together experts in both posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Chapters present empirically based best practices for conceptualization, assessment, and intervention. The book also addresses the biological and psychosocial mechanisms by which PTSD and mTBI complicate each other; management of commonly associated conditions, including chronic pain and substance abuse; special considerations in military contexts; and possible ways to improve the structure and cost-effectiveness of providing care in this challenging area.
