Have you been searching for a way to resolve conflict that doesn't involve a series of ten or more steps? Do you think that perhaps a key to conflict resolution must come from within? How can teachers and pre-service teachers help their students learn and use strategies for conflict resolution? Tools for Conflict Resolution is a practical method for teaching conflict resolution skills to students in grades K-12. Conflict is a part of everyone's life. It is the authors' belief that if each student is given tools for handling conflict, and these tools are used each time conflict arises that soon students become proficient conflict managers. This book begins with a chapter, which introduces Peter Senge's five disciplines: Personal Mastery, Mental Models, Shared Vision, Team Building, and Systems Thinking. After reading this chapter, the reader is able to embrace the five disciplines and begin practicing the adult level. As teachers, we teach from who we are. The rest of the book is filled with actual lesson plans, which are directly tied to the Multiple Intelligences Theory and are developmentally appropriate for students. Case studies, role- plays, skits, literature, songs, and co-operative learning activities are the primary instructional methods used to teach students conflict resolution skills. An annotated bibliography is included to assist teachers in extending lessons. These lessons may be taught during Social Studies as a unit on character education or could be used during a guidance class.
Ars Poetica is a collection of selected poems that Terence M. O'Keefe has written over the course of his lifetime.
Arachidonic acid (ARA) is one the two main polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in the brain, especially in neuronal cells, and can be a target in the fight against the major public health concern represented by Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related disorders in high- as well as in low-income countries where elders constitute a growing part of the population. This compilation includes topics such as the use of arachidonic acid to prevent Alzheimer's disease; the dietary effects and sources of ARA; the effect of ARA on key oncogenic pathways in prostate cancer; and the effects of adipokines on prostaglandin E2 production by rheumatoid synovial fibroblasts.
BOOK DESCRIPTION Take It from The Top: What To Do With a Peak Experience By Edward M. O'Keefe, Ph.D. This book examines Peak Experiences (PEs), those "mountain-top moments" when we are suddenly taken out of ourselves and feel our oneness with all of creation. These magical moments, the author convincingly points out, are increasing in number and in quality as the human race prepares for a significant evolutionary step forward. Some 75 well-known and little-known persons share with us their fascinating, often life changing, always uplifting, experiences - outbreaks of spirit - that testify to the amazing capabilities and possibilities of the human mind and heart. American psychologist Abraham Maslow called this capacity "the farther reaches of human nature." Persons relating their profound peak experiences, mostly in their own words, include Eckhart Tolle, C.S. Lewis, Anwar Sadat, Astronaut Edgar Mitchell, Albert Einstein, scientist Elmer Green (considered the father of clinical biofeedback), actors Alan Arkin and Julie Andrews, basketball star Bill Russell, and composers Brahms and Bernstein. Whatever the field of the 'peaker'- science, art, religion, education, sports, etc. - these profound moments of insight, knowledge and joy motivate the individual, and all humankind, to exceed former limits, to push on into previously unknown territory. Thus, PEs are the prime engines of human evolution. The author, after a lifetime of study of PEs, examines these extraordinary occurrences, where PEs come from, their purpose, and the most common events and activities that trigger PEs, such as music, sports, spirituality and nature. In addition, after pointing out some of the resistant forces that tend to inhibit such experiences, this book presents easy and practical methods to increase the number of these powerful and ecstatic spiritual happenings - for oneself and for the evolution of the human race.
