No one can doubt that Muslim cultures and Muslim populations are
under intense scrutiny in the west and worldwide. Moreover, queer
politics has been increasingly drawn into this contemporary
Islamophobia. This book presents a detailed interdisciplinary study
of the issues surrounding homosexuality and Muslim cultures,
drawing on sociological theories of modernity and modernization,
evidence of Muslim homo-eroticism in historical and contemporary
context, and contemporary political ideas of queer politics,
multiculturalism and international development. The book presents
an original theoretical framework that describes the ways in which
both queer and Muslim politics are caught up in a process of
triangulation that asserts the superiority of western civilization.
Using an intersectional framework, it also begins to map a way out
of this oppositional understanding of homosexuality and Islam, both
by drawing on the evidence of the complexity of lived experience
for Queer Muslims and by challenging the euro-centric conceits of
queer political and social theory.

The global South Asian diaspora is over 50 million strong. Many of
its members maintain strong social, economic and cultural
connections to their countries of origin. They also engage in
various causes and institutions that directly benefit their
countries and people in South Asia. A global cast of contributors
aim to document the various forms of diaspora engagement between
global South Asian diasporas and their origin countries, deepening
understanding of the opportunity that these diaspora communities
are hoarding for development, and providing insight on how to tap
the development potential of diaspora engagement for countries in
South Asia.
Multimedia technology has the potential to evolve the paradigm of
end user computing, from the interactive text and graphics model
that has developed since the 1950s, into one more compatible with
the digital electronic world of the next century. Decreasing
hardware costs, a relatively inexpensive storage capacity and a
rapid increasing computing power and network bandwidth, all major
requirements of multimedia applications, have contributed to the
recent tremendous growth in production and use of multimedia
contents. Interactive Multimedia Systems addresses these innovative
technologies and how they can positively impact a variety of areas.
Modeling and computing is becoming an essential part of the
analysis and design of an engineered system. This is also true of
"geotechnical systems", such as soil foundations, earth dams and
other soil-structure systems. The general goal of modeling and
computing is to predict and understand the behaviour of the system
subjected to a variety of possible conditions/scenarios (with
respect to both external stimuli and system parameters), which
provides the basis for a rational design of the system. The essence
of this is to predict the response of the system to a set of
external forces. The modelling and computing essentially involve
the following three phases: (a) Idealization of the actual physical
problem, (b) Formulation of a mathematical model represented by a
set of equations governing the response of the system, and (c)
Solution of the governing equations (often requiring numerical
methods) and graphical representation of the numerical results.
This book will introduce these phases. MATLAB (R) codes and MAPLE
(R) worksheets are available for those who have bought the book.

For many years, the subject of functional equations has held a
prominent place in the attention of mathematicians. In more recent
years this attention has been directed to a particular kind of
functional equation, an integral equation, wherein the unknown
function occurs under the integral sign. The study of this kind of
equation is sometimes referred to as the inversion of a definite
integral. While scientists and engineers can already choose from a
number of books on integral equations, this new book encompasses
recent developments including some preliminary backgrounds of
formulations of integral equations governing the physical situation
of the problems. It also contains elegant analytical and numerical
methods, and an important topic of the variational
principles.Primarily intended for senior undergraduate students and
first year postgraduate students of engineering and science
courses, students of mathematical and physical sciences will also
find many sections of direct relevance. The book contains eight
chapters, pedagogically organized. This book is specially designed
for those who wish to understand integral equations without having
extensive mathematical background. Some knowledge of integral
calculus, ordinary differential equations, partial differential
equations, Laplace transforms, Fourier transforms, Hilbert
transforms, analytic functions of complex variables and contour
integrations are expected on the part of the reader.
This new introduction to the sociology of gender and sexuality
offers a fresh take on the importance of these concepts in modern
society. It provides an insight into our rapidly changing attitudes
towards sex and our understanding of masculine and feminine
identities, relating the study of gender and sexuality to wider
social concerns throughout the world and presenting a comprehensive
yet readable summary of recent research and theory. In an
accessible and engaging style, the book demonstrates how thinking
about gender and sexuality can illuminate and enliven other
contemporary sociological debates about social structure, social
change, and culture and identity politics. Emphasis is placed on
the diversity of gendered and sexual lives in different parts of
the world. The book offers detailed coverage of wide-ranging
topics, from international sex-tourism to celebrity culture, from
gender in the work-place to new sexual lifestyles, drawing examples
from everyday life. By demonstrating the links between gender and
sexuality this book makes a clear case for thinking sociologically
about these important and controversial aspects of human identity
and behaviour. The book will be of great value to students in any
discipline looking to understand the roles gender and sexuality
play in our lives.

This book addresses the increasing role of queer politics within
forms of Islamophobia, both by exploring the framing of lesbian,
gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) issues as a key marker of
western superiority and by identifying the ways in which Muslim
homophobia contributes to this dialectic.

This volume contains written versions of the papers presented at
the Second Inter national Conference on Amorphous and Crystalline
Silicon Carbide and Related Materials (ICACSC 1988), which was held
at Santa Clara University on Decem ber 15 and 16, 1988. The
conference followed the First ICACSC held at Howard University,
Washington DC, in December 1987 and continued to provide an in
ternational forum for discussion and exchange of ideas and results
covering the current status of research on SiC and related
materials. ICACSC 1988 attracted 105 participants from five
countries. The substantial increase in the number of papers
compared with the previous year is an indication of the growing
interest in this field. Of the 45 papers presented at the
conference, 36 refereed manuscripts are included in this volume,
while the remaining 9 appear as abstracts. The six invited papers
provide detailed reviews of recent results on amorphous and
crystalline silicon carbide materials and devices, as well as
diamond thin films. The volume is divided into six parts, each
covering an important theme of the conference.

My poetry will take you on a journey through my life, the
observations I have made, the wonderful times I have had and also
the terrible experiences I have faced in my life. My poetry
expresses real emotions that people from all walks of life can
relate to. The poems are honest, truthful and poignant. My poems
will take the reader on a journey, which will enrich and enlighten
the reader's mind. Some poems reflect 'tragedy' and others
'happiness'. 'Music' explores the joy that a person can feel when
listening to a memorable song or a piece of music. The style,
content and length of the poems vary considerably, to reflect the
author's quirky, inconsistent thought patterns. Some are short,
some are long, some lines are succinct, while others are more
complex, depending on the poet's mood at the time of composing.
