Modeling and computing is becoming an essential part of the
analysis and design of an engineered system. This is also true of
"geotechnical systems", such as soil foundations, earth dams and
other soil-structure systems. The general goal of modeling and
computing is to predict and understand the behaviour of the system
subjected to a variety of possible conditions/scenarios (with
respect to both external stimuli and system parameters), which
provides the basis for a rational design of the system. The essence
of this is to predict the response of the system to a set of
external forces. The modelling and computing essentially involve
the following three phases: (a) Idealization of the actual physical
problem, (b) Formulation of a mathematical model represented by a
set of equations governing the response of the system, and (c)
Solution of the governing equations (often requiring numerical
methods) and graphical representation of the numerical results.

This volume contains written versions of the papers presented at
the Second Inter national Conference on Amorphous and Crystalline
Silicon Carbide and Related Materials (ICACSC 1988), which was held
at Santa Clara University on Decem ber 15 and 16, 1988. The
conference followed the First ICACSC held at Howard University,
Washington DC, in December 1987 and continued to provide an in
ternational forum for discussion and exchange of ideas and results
covering the current status of research on SiC and related
materials. ICACSC 1988 attracted 105 participants from five
countries. The substantial increase in the number of papers
compared with the previous year is an indication of the growing
interest in this field. Of the 45 papers presented at the
conference, 36 refereed manuscripts are included in this volume,
while the remaining 9 appear as abstracts. The six invited papers
provide detailed reviews of recent results on amorphous and
crystalline silicon carbide materials and devices, as well as
diamond thin films. The volume is divided into six parts, each
covering an important theme of the conference.

Solid Waste Management (SWM) in a densely populated country like
Bangladesh is increasingly becoming difficult and challenging.
Insufficient fund allocation for the collection, transportation and
disposal, implementation of modern techniques for using wastes as a
resource for energy alternatives and/or production of synthetic
material and nutrient rich soil conditioner and availability of
land for disposal all are contributing to the magnitude of the
solid waste management problem. This book is compiled based on a
research conducted between 2009 and 2010 on the environmental
impact assessment of a landfill site near Dhaka city in Bangladesh
focusing leachate generation, chemical characteristics of leachate,
probable routes of environment pollution, the livelihood and
socio-economic condition of the people involved in handling wastes
on site and resource recovery potential. It is hoped that the
result of the investigation will provide relevant information and
will be of academic interest for the people working in this area.

Numerical methods are powerful problem-solving tools, Techniques of
these methods are capable of handing large system of equation, some
problem in physics and engineering which are impossible to be
solved analytically. The main object in this thesis is to study and
reformulate some numerical methods for solving system of retarded
delay differential equations. We get good results in each presented
methods for solving system of retarded delay differential
equations. This is done by writing a computer Maple program version
13. For the purpose of comparison we compared exact results with
approximate solution which is obtained by the above methods.
