This book focuses on normative questions that arise about
globalization. Much social science research is devoted to exploring
the political, legal, social and economic changes that occur all
around us. This books offers an introductory treatment of the
philosophical questions that arise about these changes. Why would
people have human rights? We will be looking at different answers
to this question. Could there be a universal morality in the first
place? This question captures a particular kind of skepticism that
has also been applied to the human rights movement and needs to be
addresses for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to be
intellectually credible. Ought there to be states? Perhaps there
are more appropriate ways of organizing humanity politically. What
does distributive justice require at the global level? The world in
which we live is one of a striking inequality that challenges us to
explore what a just world would look like. What does justice
require of us with regard to climate change? We now live in a
geological era sometimes called the Athropocene: it is human action
that has the biggest impact on the future of all life. How should
we think about fairness in trade? Trade, after all, ties people
together around the world. And what does justice imply for
immigration policy? Each of these questions is answered in its own
chapter. Introductions to political philosophy normally focus
mostly or entirely on domestic questions. This introduction is
concerned with questions of global scope throughout.
Founded in 1893, the National League of the Blind was the first
nationwide self-represented group of visually impaired people in
Britain. This book explores its campaign to make the state solely
responsible for providing training, employment and assistance for
the visually impaired as a right, and its fight to abolish all
charitable aid for them.
Noted sexologist cites honesty, equality, and responsibility as key
to solving to our nation's sexual dilemma.
Rape, teen pregnancy, child sexual abuse, and AIDS still plague
us despite new technology and increased sexual awareness. Religious
leaders blame the media for our sexual problems, while others
remain ignorant or in denial. Sociologist Ira L. Reiss contends
that only real solutions will result in a new generation of sexual
problem solvers. In Solving America's Sexual Crises, he argues that
we can reduce alarming rates of sexually transmitted disease,
sexual violence and abuse, and unwanted pregnancy through
responsible dialogue and cooperative action.
Reiss's direct, lucid, and challenging analyses of these
problems, demonstrates that our current sexual malaise emerged from
Victorian attitudes, religious intolerance, ignorance, and
misconceptions about sexuality. Solving America's Sexual Crises is
a pluralistic approach, touching on everything from safe-sex to sex
therapy. Only by altering our outmoded, dogmatic notions about
sexuality can we begin to manage and eventually solve current and
future sexual problems.

An introduction to political philosophy. It takes a different
approach to understanding the important and topical debates in the
subject through the lens of issues of global reach such as justice,
human rights, fair trade and immigration, focusing on normative
questions that arise about globalisation.

This book is a comprehensive drill book intended to help beginner
and advanced pitchers, coaches, and parents. The content moves
through the proper pitching progression from learning the basic
mechanics to developing the movement pitches. A look at pitching
from a former professional catcher's perspective provides insight
into the pitcher/catcher "battery." The importance of the pitcher's
mental preparation to manage the game is discussed. Practicing
needs to be fun or the pitcher will soon get bored. This book also
introduces fun activities, some that don't even need a softball,
which focus on specific areas of the pitch. Have fun
