The incidence of neuropathic pain continues to rise, yet it is an
affliction often misdiagnosed or inadequately treated. Although in
recent years considerable research has been dedicated to
understanding its mechanisms, there have been few advances in
treatment. The contributors to this book are internationally
renowned leaders in the fields of peripheral neuropathy and
neuropathic pain. They discuss clinical approaches to diagnosis and
treatment of neuropathic pain, its underlying mechanisms, and
strategies for prevention. In addition, chapters cover timely
issues, including legal and ethical concerns surrounding pain
treatment, the status of clinical trial methods, and educational
efforts. Comprehensive yet concise, this book serves as a guide for
diagnostic approaches and treatment of neuropathic pain for the
student, resident, practicing physician, researcher, and
specialist.
The prominence of social media, especially in the lives of

and Teaching: Emerging Research and Opportunities is an essential
scholarly publication that embeds innovative, current pedagogical
practices into new and redeveloped courses and introduces digital
and online learning tools to best support teaching practices.
Featuring coverage on a wide range of topics including
collaborative learning, innovative learning environments, and
blended teaching, this book provides essential research for
educators, educational administrators, education stakeholders,
academicians, researchers, and professionals within the realm of
higher education.

How might the Christian church effectively engage today's
politically charged, profit-motivated world while remaining
faithful to its biblical and theological roots? The contributors in
this book argue that public theology provides a promising pathway
forward. The public theology emerging from these pages has been
influenced by the theological interests and commitments of Gary M.
Simpson, Lutheran pastor and systematic theologian. His approach to
public theology is intersectional and global; he artfully weaves
together Lutheran theology and the civil society arena of Critical
Social Theory. These essays provide three angles of vision on faith
active in twenty-first century public contexts: contextual,
ethical, and theological. While not mutually exclusive, these
distinct strands of thought engage and challenge the church to
substantial reflection on the challenging and often bewildering
circumstances of the twenty-first century social world. Some
reflect on God's activity within particular global contexts, others
offer new perspectives on Lutheran confessional traditions, still
others step boldly into innovative theological assertions. As the
Christian church is ever forming and reforming, this book urges it
to grapple with the "publicness" of its timely and timeless
mission.
Early in the planning of this Centenary Edition, the editors
decided to set aside a final volume for those works of Hawthorne
that did not find a place in the previous volumes. Many of these
works were written early in Hawthorne's career, going back as far
as his precollege years, and from the still hazily understood time
of his earliest periodical publications - sometimes pseudonymous,
more often anonymous. The Life of Franklin Pierce - which did not
belong with the romances, however loud the satirical charges of
political opponents that it did - finds its place in this volume,
along with the first complete publication of Pierce's Mexican
diary, which Hawthorne used in composing his Life.

A Church for the World: The Church's Role in Fostering Democracy
and Sustainable Development challenges theologians and lay readers
alike to think about the role of the church vis-a-vis its
responsibility to the world. How may the church contribute to
democracy and foster sustainable development? Contributors from
mostly non-Western theological communities offer historical,
developmental, ecclesiastical, and theological perspectives on the
church-world relationship, challenging misconceptions and practices
that prevent the church from living up to its transformational
vocation as salt and light in the world (Matt. 5:13-16). The
driving force behind the questions and perspectives discussed here
is Gustavo Gutierrez's axiom in A Theology of Liberation: A
theology which fails to address the most urgent needs of ordinary
people is not worthy of the word "theology." Proceeding from this
insight, this book creates awareness about the relationship between
religion, democracy, and development, and aims to strengthen the
self-understanding of the church with regard to its
responsibilities in the world.
Most of the people receiving physiotherapy are middle-aged or
older, thus it is important for all physiotherapists to acquire the
knowledge and skills particular to working with older people. The
role of the physiotherapist is not restricted to reducing
disability, but also encompasses the promotion of positive health,
and Barrie Pickles and colleagues have taken the innovative
approach of combining both of these aspects in this research-based,
comprehensive textbook. Written by an international team of
experts, the text is divided into the following sections:
Background to Aging The Aging Process Working with Older People
Management of Impairments and Disabilities Handicaps of Aging
Integrated Case Management Future Directions Within these broad
areas, the authors provide a thorough and readable introduction to
the many complex and challenging issues that form part of or
influence health care and health education for the older adult,
including: Posture and gait Communication Motor learning Health
promotion programs Specific clinical problems, such as pain, stroke
and incontinence The book is written from a global perspective, the
link between theory and practice is made both within each
individual chapter and by means of helpful case studies. Students
will find this attractively presented text a stimulating
introduction to the theoretical background and principles of
physiotherapy, practice older people.Multiauthored by an
international team of experts Includes normal psychological and
physiological changes with ageDiscusses strategies for accurate
assessment, and reasoned delivery of care Covers working with
healthy, ill and disabled people in a variety of settings

This book is a response to the binary thinking and misuse of
history that characterize contemporary immigration debates.
Subverting the traditional injunction directed at migrants to 'go
back to where they came from', it highlights the importance of the
past to contemporary discussions around migration. It argues that
historians have a significant contribution to make in this respect
and shows how this can be done with chapters from scholars in,
Asia, Europe, Australasia and North America. Through their work on
global, transnational and national histories of migration, an
alternative view emerges - one that complicates our understanding
of 21st-century migration and reasserts movement as a central
dimension of the human condition. History, Historians and the
Immigration Debate makes the case for historians to assert
themselves more confidently as expert commentators, offering a
reflection on how we write migration history today and the forms it
might take in the future.
This book provides a detailed study of the Atomic Layer Epitaxy
technique (ALE), its development, current and potential
applications. The rapid development of coating technologies over
the last 25 years has been instrumental in generating interest and
expertise in thin films of materials, and indeed the market for
thin film coatings is currently GBP3 billion with projected annual
growth of 20 to 30% [1]. ALE is typical of thin-film processes in
that problems in the processing or preparation of good quality
epitaxial films have been overcome, resulting in better
performance, novel applications of previously unsuitable materials,
and the development of new devices. Many materials exhibit
interesting and novel properties when prepared as thin films and
doped. Vapour-deposited coatings and films are used extensively in
the semiconductor and related industries for making single devices,
integrated circuits, microwave hybrid integrated circuits, compact
discs, solar reflective glazing, fibre optics, photo voltaic cells,
sensors, displays, and many other products in general, everyday
use. The ALE technique was developed by a research team led by
Tuomo Suntola, working for Instrumentarium Oy in Finland. The key
members of this team were lorma Antson, Arto Pakkala and Sven
Lindfors. In 1977, the research team moved from Instrumentarium to
Lohja Corporation, where they continued the development of ALE and
were granted a patent in the same year. By 1980, the technique was
sufficiently advanced that they were producing flat-screen
electroluminescent displays based on a manganese-doped zinc
sulphide layer.

Chromatin is DNA plus the proteins (and RNA) that package DNA
within the cell nucleus. The primary functions of chromatin are: to
package DNA into a smaller volume to fit in the cell, to strengthen
the DNA to allow mitosis and meiosis and prevent DNA damage, and to
control gene expression and DNA replication. In this book, the
authors present topical research in the study of chromatin
including the varied functions of aurora kinases A and B in mitosis
and carcinogenesis; the chromatin state of pluripotent stem cells;
MITF meets chromatin in melanoma; the state of chromatin as an
integrative indicator of cell stress; analysing DNA damage and its
repair throughout entire genomes; the cloning process, structural
characterisation of Revolver transposon and its patented
application for chromosome tags; DNA damage and Rad16; and
glucocorticoid-induced chromatin remodelling.
