Does the Internet fundamentally change the flow of politically relevant information, even in authoritarian regimes? If so, does it alter the attitudes and behavior of citizens? While there is a fair amount of research exploring how social media has empowered social actors to challenge authoritarian regimes, there is much less addressing whether and how the state can actively shape the flow of information to its advantage. In China, for instance, citizens often resort to "rightful resistance" to lodge complaints and defend rights. By using the rhetoric of the central government, powerless citizens may exploit the slim political opportunity structure and negotiate with the state for better governance. But this tactic also reinforces the legitimacy of authoritarian states; citizens engage rightful resistance precisely because they trust the state, at least the central government, to some degree. Drawing on original survey data and rich qualitative sources, Directed Digital Dissidence in Autocracies explores how authoritarian regimes employ the Internet in advantageous ways to direct the flow of online information. The authors argue that the central Chinese government successfully directs citizen dissent toward local government through critical information that the central government places online—a strategy that the authors call "directed digital dissidence". In this context, citizens engage in low-level protest toward the local government, and thereby feel empowered, while the central government avoids overthrow. Consequently, the Internet functions to discipline local state agents and to project a benevolent image of the central government and the regime as a whole. With an in-depth look at the COVID-19 and Xinjiang Cotton cases, the authors demonstrate how the Chinese state employs directed digital dissidence and discuss the impact and limitations of China's information strategy.

Der Autor hat zahlreiche eigene anatomische und histologische Serienuntersuchungen durchgefuhrt, um die Problematik der Pathomechanik und Disposition dieser Verletzung besser zu erfassen. Nur wenn der Traumatologe die funktionelle Anatomie be- herrscht und die Pathophysiologie des Kniege1enks versteht, kann er frische Lasionen und chronische Beschwerden exakt beurteilen und einer kausalen Be- handlung zufUhren. Die Behandlung der Bandverletzungen des Kniege- lenks hat sich im Laufe der letzten 3 lahrzehnte grund- legend geandert. Vor dieser Zeit wurden die frischen Bandverletzungen vorwiegend konservativ behandelt, wobei die Ergebnisse dieser Behandlung bei komple- xen Bandschaden oft unbefriedigend waren. Es waren besonders amerikanische und franzosische Chirur- gen, die seit den fruhen fUnfziger lahren in zunehmen- dem MaBe die operative Rekonstruktion der komple- xen Bandschaden gefordert und durchgefUhrt haben. Diesen Chirurgen verdanken wir eine bessere Kennt- nis der pathologisch-anatomischen Veranderungen bei den komplexen Kapsel-Band-Verletzungen. Die anatomischen Beschreibungen fruherer Lehrbii- VII cher sind fUr den Unfallchirurgen heute nicht mehr ausreichend; bei der Pdiparation schwerer frischer Bandverletzungen gelangt man zu einer wesentlich detaillierteren chirurgisch-anatomischen Gliederung der Strukturen. Die Erganzung der chirurgisch-anato- mischen Nomenklatur nach funktionellen Gesichts- punkten ist daher eine vordringliche Aufgabe.

Das Kniegelenk ist nieht nur das groBte und meehaniseh komplizier- teste, sondem aueh das am haufigsten von Verletzungen und Erkran- kungen betroffene Gelenk des mensehlichen Korpers. Es ist Verlet- zungsgefahren aufgrund unserer industrialisierten und teehnisierten Umwelt ebenso ausgesetzt wie drohenden Verletzungen dureh die zunehmenden sportlichen Aktivitaten des nach immer mehr Leistung strebenden Menschen unserer Zeit. So haben gerade die Bandverletzungen des Kniegelenks von J ahr zu Jahr an Zahl und Schwere zugenommen; parallel zu dieser Entwiek- lung konnten wir unser Wissen tiber Anatomie, Pathophysiologie und Diagnostik erheblich vermehren. Anatomisehe Strukturen wur- den "entdeckt" oder in ihrer Bedeutung erkannt, physiologische und pathologische Meehanismen wurden aufgeklart und die Diagnostik der krankhaften Veranderungen konnte erheblich verbessert werden. Vielen Studenten und Arzten sind diese neuen Erkenntnisse bisher kaum zuganglich, nicht zuletzt deshalb, weil eine "Kniefibel" bisher nieht existiert. Zur erfolgreichen Behandlung benotigt jeder verant- wortungsbewuBte Arzt jedoeh einen umfassenden Oberbliek tiber die anatomisch-pathophysiologischen Zusammenhange und groBe Sicherheit in allen diagnostisehen MaBnahmen.
