The sexual exploitation of a child by one who has been
recognized as a representative of God is a sinister assault on that
person 's psychosocial and spiritual well-being. Many survivors of
such abuse present with a range of symptoms consistent with
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder as well as common co-occurring
problems, including substance abuse, affective lability, and
relational conflicts. Yet there are additional themes, particularly
the impact of the abuse and institutional betrayal on the family,
profound alteration in individual spirituality, and changes in
individual and family religious practices, which differentiate this
abuse from other traumas.
Understanding the profound and multidimensional effects of
clergy perpetrated sexual abuse and the betrayal of trust by
religious leaders on individuals, families and communities requires
the collective wisdom of many voices. This book brings together the
perspectives of survivors, practitioners and scholars to examine
this unique form of interpersonal violence from theoretical,
clinical and spiritual perspectives with consideration given to
future research needs.
This book was published as a special issue of the Journal of
Child Sex Abuse.
With traumatic stress an increasing global challenge, the U.N.,
the NGO community and governments must take into account the
psychological aftermath of large-scale catastrophes and individual
or group violence. This volume addresses this global perspective,
and provides a conceptual framework for interventions in the wake
of abuse, torture, war, and disaster on individual, local,
regional, and international levels. To be useful to both
practitioners and policymakers, the book identifies model programs
that can be implemented at every level.
In 1997 the National Institute of Mental Health assembled a
working group of international experts to address the mental health
consequences of torture and related violence and trauma; report on
the status of scientific knowledge; and include research
recommendations with implications for treatment, services, and
policy development. This book, dedicated to those who experience
the horrors of torture and those who work to end it, is based on
that report.

The applications of ergodic theory to metric number theory are well
known; part of the latter theory turns out to be essentially a
special case of general ergodic theorems. In the present book other
applications of ergodic concepts are presented. Constructing
"flows" of integral points on certain algebraic manifolds given by
systems of integral polynomials, we are able to prove individual
ergodic theorems and mixing theorems in certain cases. These
theorems permit asymptotic calculations of the distributions of
integral points on such manifolds, and we arrive at results
inaccessible up to now by the usual methods of analytic number
theory. Typical in this respect is the theorem concerning the
asymptotic distribution and ergodic behavior of the set of integral
points on the sphere X2+ y2+z2=m for increasing m. It is not known
up until now how to obtain the simple and geometrically obvious
regularity of the distribution of integral points on the sphere
other than by ergodic methods. Systems of diophantine equations are
studied with our method, and flows of integral points introduced
for this purpose turn out to be closely connected with the behavior
of ideal classes of the corresponding algebraic fields, and this
behavior shows certain ergodic regularity in sequences of algebraic
fields. However, in this book we examine in this respect only
quadratic fields in sufficient detail, studying fields of higher
degrees only in chapter VII.

Events that lead to traumatic brain injury are often also
psychologically traumatic. Addressing a growing need among mental
health practitioners, this authoritative book brings together
experts in both posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and mild
traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Chapters present empirically based
best practices for conceptualization, assessment, and intervention.
The book also addresses the biological and psychosocial mechanisms
by which PTSD and mTBI complicate each other; management of
commonly associated conditions, including chronic pain and
substance abuse; special considerations in military contexts; and
possible ways to improve the structure and cost-effectiveness of
providing care in this challenging area.
Now in an extensively revised third edition with 65% new material,
this is the authoritative reference on posttraumatic stress
disorder (PTSD). Contributors examine the breadth of current
knowledge on the mechanisms by which stressful events can alter
psychological processes, brain function, and individual behavior.
Risk and protective factors across development and in specific
populations are explored. Reviewing the state of the science of
assessment and treatment, the volume covers early intervention and
evidence-based individual, couple/family, and group therapies.
Conceptual and diagnostic issues are addressed and key questions
for the next generation of researchers are identified. New to This
Edition *Thoroughly revised to reflect the accelerating pace of
scientific and clinical progress; includes a range of new authors.
*Chapters on new topics: treatment of PTSD with comorbid disorders,
and postmortem brain banking. *New chapters on previously covered
topics, including DSM-5 and ICD-11 diagnostic criteria, the
psychoneurobiology of resilience, and challenges in implementing
clinical best practices. *New or updated discussions of such timely
issues as treatment of refugees, telemental health, and
technology-based interventions.
positive Strecke zurucklegen.

219BC-Carthage locks horns with Rome in a bloody war for
survival... When Carthage's charismatic general Hannibal launches
his army on a daring campaign across Spain to Gaul and over the
Alps into Italy to bring predatory Rome to its knees, his cousin,
noble-born teenager Malco is proud to take part in the glorious
endeavor. From the heat of the Libyan desert to the passion of
great love, Malco-the Thunderbolt-battles corrupt politics, bears,
wolves, dread mountain passes, and the massed Celtic tribes who
would bar Hannibal's path to victory. Through his eyes and the
loves of his life-Giskon, hotheaded activist; Juba, Numidian
warrior; and Trebon, dearest and eternal friend-this violent tale
unfolds across the rich tapestry of history, of political intrigue,
and brutal bloody war. Finally, the deadly political infighting at
home destroys Malco's patriotic feelings, and he finds himself
hating Carthage even more than his sworn enemy Rome. Malco is
inexorably led to a moment of fateful choice that will determine
the future course of his life, and that of those he loves.

violent bloodshed. In Victorian England Edward and Richard are
twins, with a blessed life, enjoying their elite private school for
boys, and with prospects of army commissions ahead. But then a
woman's greed tears them apart and destroys their comfortable
world. Even though their love is forbidden, for Edward there is no
other in his life but Richard, and for Richard a life without
Edward is unbearable. Has fate determined that they must lead their
lives apart? As members of the British force engaged in a doomed
bid to save heroic Gordon of Khartoum, besieged by the frenzied
armies of the Mahdi, Edward and Richard, cruelly separated by
events, and ignorant of the other's presence, are thrown into their
own desperate adventures as the conflict rages on around them...
One an officer, the other a lowly cavalry trumpeter, both find
Muslim allies willing to risk all to see them through... Two lovers

unforgiving sand, rocky wastes, but also burning passions-will the
young men overcome the ordeal of a life apart to achieve their
dream of a destiny together?

Keane-Dawes, author of the popular letters Dear Jamaica, shares her
experiences living and working as a single parent in the United
States.

Goodreads author Summer Michaels A heavy burden rides the shoulders
of young Gregory Hilliard-to discover the fate of a father he never
knew. Did the elder Hilliard die with Hicks Pasha's army at El
Obeid in 1883 or, as his mother fervently hopes, did he somehow
escape the massacre there by the fanatic Mahdist Dervishes? And
then there is the puzzle of his real name. Is he who he thinks he
is? Born and raised in Cairo, fluent in native languages, Gregory
is pitched into the heat of war after his mother dies. The teenager
makes his way by joining General Kitchener's Nile campaign to
retake the Sudan from the Khalifa's Mahdist armies. In doing so
Gregory hopes to find out what happened to his father. Two
spies-Edward and Richard Rainbow-help in his quest, brothers with
their own dark secret. But his greatest support comes from the
Ja'alin Zaki, the love of his young life, his friend and soul-mate.
In a world that refuses to recognize the right of young men to love
and in an era that looks down on the "inferior" natives, Gregory
faces his most difficult battle for personal happiness. Success
will bring him and Zaki fulfilment but also unravel a tragic and at
the same time life-enhancing mystery with its roots in far away
England... and in the solving of it, one which might yet rip the
two lovers apart. "Gregory's Story" is the companion to the
Goodreads.com March 2013 M/M Romance and Queereaders Book of the
Month choice "A Life Apart." While "Gregory's Story" stands alone
as a novel, the events are greatly enriched by having first read "A
Life Apart," which features Edward and Richard Rainbow, who appear
as Gregory's companions, some 13 years on.
From prominent authorities in the field, the revised and expanded
second edition of this acclaimed work is an essential resource for
anyone providing treatment services or conducting research in the
area of trauma and PTSD. The volume reviews the breadth of current
knowledge about trauma assessment and provides clear, up-to-date
recommendations for practice. Coverage encompasses the uses of
standardized measures, clinical procedures, epidemiological
methods, and projective techniques, as well as approaches to
evaluating specific survivor populations. Existing chapters have
been fully rewritten and seven entirely new chapters added,
addressing recent developments in classification; emerging
applications of neuroimaging and pharmacological probes; legal and
forensic issues in assessment; assessment of comorbid PTSD and
substance abuse; and effects of trauma on physical health.
