Shahla Molahajloo, M.W. Wong
R3,805 Discovery Miles 38 050 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This volume, like its predecessors, is based on the special session on pseudo-differential operators, one of the many special sessions at the 11th ISAAC Congress, held at Linnaeus University in Sweden on August 14-18, 2017. It includes research papers presented at the session and invited papers by experts in fields that involve pseudo-differential operators. The first four chapters focus on the functional analysis of pseudo-differential operators on a spectrum of settings from Z to Rn to compact groups. Chapters 5 and 6 discuss operators on Lie groups and manifolds with edge, while the following two chapters cover topics related to probabilities. The final chapters then address topics in differential equations.

M.W. Wong, Hongmei Zhu
R3,004 Discovery Miles 30 040 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This volume consists of papers inspired by the special session on pseudo-differential operators at the 10th ISAAC Congress held at the University of Macau, August 3-8, 2015 and the mini-symposium on pseudo-differential operators in industries and technologies at the 8th ICIAM held at the National Convention Center in Beijing, August 10-14, 2015. The twelve papers included present cutting-edge trends in pseudo-differential operators and applications from the perspectives of Lie groups (Chapters 1-2), geometry (Chapters 3-5) and applications (Chapters 6-12). Many contributions cover applications in probability, differential equations and time-frequency analysis. A focus on the synergies of pseudo-differential operators with applications, especially real-life applications, enhances understanding of the analysis and the usefulness of these operators.

R4,125 Discovery Miles 41 250 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This volume consists of twenty peer-reviewed papers from the special session on pseudodifferential operators and the special session on generalized functions and asymptotics at the Eighth Congress of ISAAC held at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia in Moscow on August 22-27, 2011. The category of papers on pseudo-differential operators contains such topics as elliptic operators assigned to diffeomorphisms of smooth manifolds, analysis on singular manifolds with edges, heat kernels and Green functions of sub-Laplacians on the Heisenberg group and Lie groups with more complexities than but closely related to the Heisenberg group, Lp-boundedness of pseudo-differential operators on the torus, and pseudo-differential operators related to time-frequency analysis. The second group of papers contains various classes of distributions and algebras of generalized functions with applications in linear and nonlinear differential equations, initial value problems and boundary value problems, stochastic and Malliavin-type differential equations. This second group of papers are related to the third collection of papers via the setting of Colombeau-type spaces and algebras in which microlocal analysis is developed by means of techniques in asymptotics. The volume contains the synergies of the three areas treated and is a useful complement to volumes 155, 164, 172, 189, 205 and 213 published in the same series in, respectively, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Weyl Transforms (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1998): M.W. Wong Weyl Transforms (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1998)
M.W. Wong
R1,542 Discovery Miles 15 420 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

A study of the functional analytic properties of Weyl transforms as bounded linear operators on $ L2u(aBbb Runu) $ in terms of the symbols of the transforms. Further, the boundedness, the compactness, the spectrum and the functional calculus of the Weyl transform are proved in detail, while new results and techniques on the boundedness and compactness of the Weyl transforms in terms of the symbols in $ Lru(aBbb Ru2nu) $ and in terms of the Wigner transforms of Hermite functions are given. The roles of the Heisenberg group and the symplectic group in the study of the structure of the Weyl transform are explained, and the connections of the Weyl transform with quantization are highlighted throughout the book. Localisation operators, first studied as filters in signal analysis, are shown to be Weyl transforms with symbols expressed in terms of the admissible wavelets of the localisation operators. The results and methods mean this book is of interest to graduates and mathematicians working in Fourier analysis, operator theory, pseudo-differential operators and mathematical physics.

Discrete Fourier Analysis (Paperback, Edition.): M.W. Wong Discrete Fourier Analysis (Paperback, Edition.)
M.W. Wong
R1,553 Discovery Miles 15 530 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This textbook presents basic notions and techniques of Fourier analysis in discrete settings. Written in a concise style, it is interlaced with remarks, discussions and motivations from signal analysis. The first part is dedicated to topics related to the Fourier transform, including discrete time-frequency analysis and discrete wavelet analysis. Basic knowledge of linear algebra and calculus is the only prerequisite. The second part is built on Hilbert spaces and Fourier series and culminates in a section on pseudo-differential operators, providing a lucid introduction to this advanced topic in analysis. Some measure theory language is used, although most of this part is accessible to students familiar with an undergraduate course in real analysis. Discrete Fourier Analysis is aimed at advanced undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics and applied mathematics. Enhanced with exercises, it will be an excellent resource for the classroom as well as for self-study.

In a recent series of papers M.W. Wong has studied a degenerate elliptic partial di?erential operator related to the Heisenberg group. It turns out that Wong's example is best understood when replaced in the context of the phase-space Weyl calculus we have developed in previous work; this - proach highlights the relationship of Wong's constructions with the quantum mechanics of charged particles in a uniform magnetic ?eld. Using Shubin's classes of pseudodi?erential symbols we prove global hypoellipticity results for arbitrary phase-space operators arising from elliptic operators on con- uration space. Pseudo-Differential Operators - Quantization and Signals (Paperback, 2008 ed.): Luigi Rodino Pseudo-Differential Operators - Quantization and Signals (Paperback, 2008 ed.)
Luigi Rodino; Hans G. Feichtinger; Edited by M.W. Wong; Bernard Helffer, Michael Lamoureux, …
R1,967 Discovery Miles 19 670 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Pseudo-differential operators were initiated by Kohn, Nirenberg and Hormander in the sixties of the last century. Beside applications in the general theory of partial differential equations, they have their roots also in the study of quantization first envisaged by Hermann Weyl thirty years earlier. Thanks to the understanding of the connections of wavelets with other branches of mathematical analysis, quantum physics and engineering, such operators have been used under different names as mathematical models in signal analysis since the last decade of the last century.

The volume investigates the mathematics of quantization and signals in the context of pseudo-differential operators, Weyl transforms, Daubechies operators, Wick quantization and time-frequency localization operators. Applications to quantization, signal analysis and the modern theory of PDE are highlighted.

Wavelet Transforms and Localization Operators (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2002): M.W. Wong Wavelet Transforms and Localization Operators (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2002)
M.W. Wong
R1,540 Discovery Miles 15 400 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book is based on lectures given at the Global Analysis Research Center (GARC) of Seoul National University in 1999and at Peking University in 1999and 2000. Preliminary versions of the book have been used for various topics courses in analysis for graduate students at York University. We study in this book wavelet transforms and localization operators in the context of infinite-dimensional and square-integrable representations of locally compact and Hausdorffgroups. The wavelet transforms studied in this book, which include the ones that come from the Weyl-Heisenberg group and the well-known affine group, are the building blocks of localization operators. The theme that dominates the book is the spectral theory of wavelet transforms and localization operators in the form of Schatten-von Neumann norm inequalities. Several chap ters are also devoted to the product formulas for concrete localization operators such as Daubechies operators and wavelet multipliers. This book is a natural sequel to the book on pseudo-differential operators [103] and the book on Weyl transforms [102] by the author. Indeed, localization operators on the Weyl-Heisenberg group are Weyl transforms, which are in fact pseudo-differential operators. Details on the perspective and the organization of the book are laid out in the first chapter. This is a book on mathematics and is written for anyone who has taken basic graduate courses in measure theory and functional analysis. Some knowledge of group theory and general topology at the undergraduate level is also assumed.

Weyl Transforms (Hardcover, 1998 ed.): M.W. Wong Weyl Transforms (Hardcover, 1998 ed.)
M.W. Wong
R1,681 Discovery Miles 16 810 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The functional analytic properties of Weyl transforms as bounded linear operators on $ LA2A1/4(ABbb RA1/4AnA1/4) $ are studied in terms of the symbols of the transforms. The boundedness, the compactness, the spectrum and the functional calculus of the Weyl transform are proved in detail. New results and techniques on the boundedness and compactness of the Weyl transforms in terms of the symbols in $ LArA1/4(ABbb RA1/4A2nA1/4) $ and in terms of the Wigner transforms of Hermite functions are given. The roles of the Heisenberg group and the symplectic group in the study of the structure of the Weyl transform are explicated, and the connections of the Weyl transform with quantization are highlighted throughout the book. Localization operators, first studied as filters in signal analysis, are shown to be Weyl transforms with symbols expressed in terms of the admissible wavelets of the localization operators. The results and methods in this book should be of interest to graduate students and mathematicians working in Fourier analysis, operator theory, pseudo- differential operators and mathematical physics. Background materials are given in adequate detail to enable a graduate student to proceed rapidly from the very basics to the frontier of research in an area of operator theory.

Wavelet Transforms and Localization Operators (Hardcover): M.W. Wong Wavelet Transforms and Localization Operators (Hardcover)
M.W. Wong
R2,716 Discovery Miles 27 160 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The focus of this book is on the Schatten-von Neumann properties and the product formulas of localization operators defined in terms of infinite-dimensional and square-integrable representations of locally compact and Hausdorff groups. Wavelet transforms, which are the building blocks of localization operators, are also studied in their own right. Daubechies operators on the Weyl-Heisenberg group, localization operators on the affine group, and wavelet multipliers on the Euclidean space are investigated in detail. The study is carried out in the perspective of pseudo-differential operators, quantization and signal analysis. Although the emphasis is put on locally compact and Hausdorff groups, results in the context of homogeneous spaces are given in order to unify the various localization operators into a single theory. Several new spectral results on pseudo-differential operators in the setting of localization operators are presented for the first time. The book is accessible to graduate students and mathematicians who have a basic knowledge of measure theory and functional analysis and wish to have a fast track to the frontier of research at the interface of pseudo-differential operators, quantization and signal analysis.
