Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
This book develops two exciting areas of particle physics research.
It applies the recent new insights about the usefulness of helicity
amplitudes in understanding gauge theory to the long-standing
effort to understand theories with both electric and magnetic
charges. It is known that for some supersymmetric theories there is
an exact duality that relates two descriptions of the physics, one
where the electric charges are weakly coupled and another where the
electric charges are strongly coupled. The calculations in this
thesis suggest that this duality can also hold in the low-energy
limit of nonsupersymmetric gauge theories. The idea of addressing
the hierarchy problem of the standard model Higgs mechanism using
conformal symmetry is also explored. Analogously to "Little Higgs"
models, where divergences are cancelled only at one-loop order,
models are studied that have infrared conformal fixed points which
related gauge and Yukawa couplings, allowing for a cancellation
between seemingly unrelated quantum loop diagrams.
Flow cytometry forms an integral part of both basic biological
research and clinical diagnosis in pathology. This straightforward
new volume provides a clear, easy-to-read, and practical manual for
both clinicians and non-clinicians at all levels of their
careers.
The chapter topics range from basic principles to more advanced
subjects, such as apoptosis and cell sorting. The book charts the
history, development and basic principles of flow cytometry.
This book challenges some of the most basic assumptions
underpinning the growing interest in religion, including: that
religion is increasing and secularisation is decreasing and that
religion is the main component of identity for all minority ethnic
people.
This book is the first sociological and feminist critique of
multicultural theory and practice. Using empirical research, it
answers the question: is multiculturalism bad for women? arguing
that it is not only bad for (minority ethnic) women, but for
minority and majority communities, and for society as a whole.

Interim remedies and provisional measures are a critical component
of civil/commercial litigation and arbitration. The objective of
this book is to set out not just the law and practice in relation
to the primary interim remedies and preservation measures available
in England & Wales and China, but also to provide the
comparative analysis between the two jurisdictions concerning these
interim measures. The system for interim remedies in England &
Wales is well-established, but preservation measures in China are a
work in progress and many differences exist between the two legal
systems, both in terms of theory and practice. For example, China
does not recognise the general concept of interim measures, if
looked at from the English law point of view, though it does have
similar concepts of Property preservation, evidence preservation
and behaviour preservation. China has recently adopted Chinese
Civil Code 2020 and in writing this book the authors have
incorporated all the relevant elements from the new Code. There is
no equivalent of Practice Directions in China, and this book
provides provide much needed clarity on this area, drawing together
the law and guidance which is presently scattered across numerous
local courts in the different provinces. This is an important book
that is likely to have a significant impact on existing scholarship
regarding interim remedies in England, Wales and China, and be of
interest of all parties involved in cross-border litigation. Its
readership will include industry professionals, academics,
policy-makers and government officials.
Forgotten African American Firsts provides students with resources
for learning and conducting research about African American
innovators and their contributions to art, entertainment, sports,
politics, religion, business, and popular culture. While the
achievements of such individuals as Barack Obama, Toni Morrison,
and Thurgood Marshall are well known, many accomplished African
Americans have been largely forgotten or deliberately erased from
the historical record in America. This volume introduces students
to those African Americans whose successes in entertainment,
business, sports, politics, and other fields remain poorly
understood. Dr. Charles Drew, whose pioneering research on blood
transfusions saved thousands of lives during World War II; Mae
Jemison, an engineer who in 1992 became the first African American
woman to travel in outer space; and Ethel Waters, the first African
American to star in her own television show, are among those
chronicled in Forgotten African American Firsts. With nearly 150
entries across 17 categories, this book has been carefully curated
to showcase the inspiring stories of African Americans whose hard
work, courage, and talent have led the course of history in the
United States and around the world. Introduces students to the
pioneering achievements of African American artists, inventors,
leaders, and scholars Orients readers to historical, biographical,
contextual, and theoretical approaches to understanding and
appraising the work of African American innovators Documents the
critical but often unrecognized role that African Americans in
every generation have played in transforming American culture
Models major avenues for investigating, assessing, and writing
about African American trailblazers and the significance and
continuing influence of their accomplishments
Originally written between the years 1722 and 1743, the works of
Henry Carey included in this volume were originally compiled by
Samuel L. Macey for this volume in 1980. The volume includes the
dramatic works of Henry Carey, Hanging and Marriage; or the
Dead-Man's Wedding, and the songs, as they are sung in "Betty, or
the Country-Bumpkins". They are all included here edited and with
an introduction by Samuel L. Macey, as well as alongside textual
notes.
This volume examines the agrarian crisis, primarily in Russia but
also in other states of former USSR, from a variety of perspectives
and disciplines, surveying the context of agrarian reforms in
recent years and examining the specifics of individual farming
development in post-Soviet Russia.
Originally published in 1991. A multidisciplinary guide in the form
of a bibliography of selected time-related books and articles
divided into 25 existing academic disciplines and about 100
subdisciplines which have a wide application to time studies.
The fields of organizational climate and organizational culture
have co-existed for several decades with very little integration
between the two. In Organizational Climate and Culture: An
Introduction to Theory, Research, and Practice, Mark G. Ehrhart,
Benjamin Schneider, and William H. Macey break down the barriers
between these fields to encourage a broader understanding of how an
organization's environment affects its functioning and performance.
Building on in-depth reviews of the development of both the
organizational climate and organizational culture literatures, the
authors identify the key issues that researchers in each field
could learn from the other and provide recommendations for the
integration of the two. They also identify how practitioners can
utilize the key concepts in the two literatures when conducting
organizational cultural inquiries and leading change efforts. The
end product is an in-depth discussion of organizational climate and
culture unlike anything that has come before that provides unique
insights for a broad audience of academics, practitioners, and
students.

The spate of corporate governance scandals in the USA, Asia and
Europe during the late 1990s has renewed interest in the role of
corporations in society. International organizations such as the
World Bank and OECD have come to recognize that corporate law plays
an important role in economic development and GDP growth. In this
timely and important collection, Jonathan Macey presents the key
papers that have influenced the development of corporate law
scholarship. The many topics covered include the foundations of the
economics of corporate law, the corporation as a nexus of
contracts, corporate law from a Coasean perspective, insider
trading and jurisdictional competition. The articles and the
editor's authoritative introduction are essential readings for
those with an interest in corporate law and its economic
underpinnings.
In this encyclopedia, some 200 international scholars in 360

astronomy, mathematics, time's measurements and divisions, as well
as covering other scientific and interdisciplinary areas: biology,
economics and political science, horology, history, medicine,
geography, geology and telecommunications.
