This book has been produced by drawing from diverse and personal
thoughts, imagination, my inspirations from a variety of media and
a desire to fulfil a dream that follows in my dear aunt's
footsteps. I have always enjoyed writing and only recently come to
understand the passion involved in publishing my own work. My
journey with writing is still growing - slowly, with this, my
second book.
This book has been produced by drawing from diverse and personal
thoughts, imagination, my inspirations from a variety of media and
a desire to fulfil a dream that follows in my dear aunt's
footsteps. Like my aunt, I was born in the city of Coventry and
have spent all of my life so far, living in the city and the
neighbouring town of Nuneaton, where I have been supported by my
family and friends in the development of my first book. I have
always enjoyed writing and only recently come to understand the
passion involved in publishing my own work. I would like to think
of this as a beginning of a journey.'
Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.

The field of distributed learning is constantly evolving. Online
technology provides instructors with the flexibility to offer
meaningful instruction to students who are at a distance or in some
cases right on campus, but still unable to be physically present in
the classroom. This dynamic environment challenges librarians to
monitor, learn, adapt, collaborate, and use new technological
advances in order to make the best use of techniques to engage
students and improve learning outcomes and success rates.
Distributed Learning provides evidence based information on a
variety of issues, surrounding online teaching and learning from
the perspective of librarians.

Tales of sex and violence, mystery, murder and yes, even romance,
abound in this sweeping saga as the reader is transported from the
late seventeenth century to the mid twentieth when the
self-confessed bad boy from the boondocks left school to make his
own way in the world. The canvas stretches from Banffshire in the
North East of Scotland to Blyth in the North East of England, from
the Middle East to North America and Australia. In this journey of
discovery, the author uncovers some shocking stories and others so
amazing they would be dismissed as too fanciful for a work of
fiction. You will find a good number of tragic tales that will
sadden you but they are leavened by a great many others that will
also gladden your heart.
Violent politcs in Northern Ireland has lasted thirty years and cost four thousand lives and billions of pounds. Many such conflicts afflict the world. This book describes the search for causes and solutions. It identifies the key factors driving violent politics and the range of counter-strategies. It analyzes the course of the Troubles in Northern Ireland, and the results of the counter-measures used. The conclusions are disturbing. The recommendations are controversial, but difficult to escape.
Politics is one method of solving conflicts. War is another. Violent politcs - lying in the zone between peace and war - is a third, used increasingly to trump conventional politics. Michael Addison, soldier and scholar, explores the history and myths of terrorism; he describes the search for causes and solutions; he identifies the key factors driving violent politics and the range of counter strategies. In particular, he challenges conventional thinking on thirty-three years of conflict in Northern Ireland, through battle, tribal warfare, stalemate then peace process. With thousands dead, tens of thousands injured or maimed and bilions spent, Violent Politicsasks: Could the people of Northern Ireland have been better served? Should the Peace Process fail, what next?

With a song for every occasion, the author embarks on another
adventure, this time to La Palma in the Canary Islands. Having
learnt from previous encounters that neighbours are not conducive
to good holidays, he elects this time to stay in a remote country
cottage. If he imagined this would avoid encountering irritating
people and ensure a trouble-free, idyllic, romantic holiday with
his long-suffering wife, he was sadly mistaken. His gift for
putting his foot in it, as usual, results in a series of tight
scrapes, excruciatingly embarrassing for him, but which provides
the reader with a vicarious sense of pleasure, not to mention
Schadenfreude, appropriately enough, for Germans seem to cross the
writer's path with amazing regularity. Follow in the author's
footsteps, let him be your guide as he explores every aspect of
this island, which, he concludes, is one of the most spectacular he
has ever visited, yet one of the least visited in the Canarian
archipelago. Along the way, seen from his personal and offbeat
perspective, he will undoubtedly inform you, certainly entertain
you and hopefully persuade you - you must visit this island before
you die. But before he dies, the author considers some possible
solutions before staring eternity in the face.
The Monograph deals with the conception, planning, implementation,
results and conclusions of the International Witches' Broom Project
(IWBP), which was set up in 1985 with the aim of producing an
economic management system for witches' broom disease of cocoa. The
contributions of the various sponsors, and the roles played by the
participating organizations and scientists are described in the
introductory chapter. Chapter 2 provides a review of what was, and
what was not known from published literature about the cocoa
witches' broom pathosystem in 1989. The scope of the project and
the approaches used are covered in Chapter 3, while Chapters 4 to
13 report on the field studies themselves in detail. The recent
appearance of witches' broom in the important cocoa area of Bahia
in Brazil is described in Chapter 14, before disease management
recommendations are summarised and future prospects considered in
the closing chapters. The many man-years of field research in the
IWBP in a total of six countries generated much useful information
which was analyzed both in the individual countries and
collectively. Even with a document of this size, certain
information and analyses with less direct relevance to disease
management had to be omitted. It is expected that more detailed
treatments of certain aspects will emerge in scientific papers, and
further analyses will be undertaken."
When, in 1978, as a participant in a teacher exchange programme,
the author, accompanied by his wife and young family, exchanged his
boring existence in Grangemouth in central Scotland for life in
Missoula, Montana, in the western United Sates, he could not have
foreseen just how much of a life-changing experience it would be -
not just for him and his family, but for his exchangee as well.
He was prepared for a less formal atmosphere in the classroom,
while, for their part, his students had been warned that he would
be "Mr Strict." It was not long before this clash of cultures
reared its ugly head and the author found himself in big trouble.
But, as he had found out from the very instant he arrived on the
continent, just because we share a common language it doesn't mean
Americans do things the same way. And the Montanans, he was to
discover, do things more differently still.
There were times, in the beginning, when he wished he had stayed
at home in his boring but safe existence in Scotland and there were
times when life got more than just a little bit too exciting for
comfort. But mainly this is a heart- warming and humorous tale of
how this Innocent abroad, confronted with one culture shock after
another, overcame his trials and tribulations and thanks to a whole
array of colourful and kind people, finally came to realise that
this exchange was the best thing he had ever done.
Fags, Hags and Queer Sisters is a provocative account of the
importance of women and cross-gender identification in gay male
culture. It offers a range of cultural readings from Tennessee
William's classic A Streetcar Named Desire and Forster's 'gay'
novel Maurice through Pulp Fiction , queer lifestyle magazines,
Roseanne , slash fan fiction and Jarman's Edward II to Almodovar's
camp classic Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown .
Theoretically sophisticated, yet passionate, accessible and
opinionated, Fags, Hags and Queer Sisters takes issue with many of
the sacred cows of contemporary gay politics, and offers a number
of new concepts in lesbian and gay theory.
