Hinda Schuman documents life after prison for two women, Linda and
Concetta. Done Doing Time illuminates their courage and
determination to walk past the dealers, to re-unite with family to
overcome the obstacles stacked against them. As Concetta and Linda
work towards their individual goals, they have welcomed Schuman
into their homes, shared their lives and their extended families.
Both women have faced real tragedy and upheaval, but remain true to
their own hearts. Â Â
Dear Shirley is a first-person saga of love and loss captured over
more than four decades. The photographs and text contained in this
diaristic account take an unflinching look at the dissolution of
two marriages: Schuman's marriage of 10 years to Jeremy, and of 27
years to Susan. Hinda Schuman an international award-winning
photographer was a staff photographer at the Philadelphia Inquirer
for twenty years Magdelena Sole is an award-winning social
documentary photographer who also works on films Sunil Gupta is a
photographer, artist, educator and curator focused on independent
photography as a critical practice for documenting race, migration
and queer issues.
Magdalena Sole first visited Cuba in 2011 and has returned every
year since, enchanted by the place and the people who live in this
slender stretch of land. Her photographs reveal the stirrings of
transformation, however subtle and hard to see, and reflect a Cuba
that is both tough and vulnerable. Cuba hasta siempre consists of
more than 150 full-color photographs taken by Sole, accompanied by
a foreword written by Time columnist and travel writer Pico Iyer.
With minimal text, this book offers a view of Cuba beyond the
tourist trade and the wealthy upper class. The photographs portray
everyday settings and people engaged in daily tasks. A visual
encounter with magical realism, this collection constructs an
atmosphere of pervasive timelessness, a photographic time capsule.
Memorabilia and objects from Cuba's revolutionary past linger in
the present, while life goes on. These soulful images offer a new
visual perspective on Cuba past and present. The Wall Street
Journal called Sole's images "lushly colorful," "formally
striking," "restless," and "electrify[ing].
