It is 1958 and France's first nuclear submarine, Plongeur, leaves
port for the first of its sea trials. On board, gathered together
for the first time, one of the Navy's most experienced captains and
a tiny skeleton crew of sailors, engineers and scientists. The
Plongeur makes her first dive and goes down, and down and down...
Out of control, the submarine plummets to a depth where the
pressure will crush her hull, killing everyone on board, and
beyond. The pressure builds, the hull protests, the crew prepare
for death, the boat reaches the bottom of the sea and finds...
nothing. Her final dive continues, the pressure begins to relent,
but the depth gauge is useless. They have gone miles down. Hundreds
of miles, thousands... And so it goes on. And on board the crew
succumb to madness, betrayal, religious mania and murder. Has the
Plongeur left the limits of our world and gone elsewhere? Contains
33 full-page pen and ink illustrations by acclaimed artist Mahendra
Singh, who previously illustrated an edition of THE HUNTING OF THE
SNARK. Adam Roberts and Mahendra Singh have revisited Jules Verne's
classic SF novel, and together they have come up with a unique
vision.

Terms.
The Indian tiger (Panthera tigris tigris Linn. 1758), one of the
world's most endangered umbrella carnivore species, is now thought
to be in the verge of extinction in the wild. Sariska National Park
in India is considered to be a highly suitable habitat for the
tigers. However, in 2005, due to extensive poaching there were no
tigers left in this park. There is some hope of further relocation
of tigers from other parts of India in order to conserve them well
under the prevailing conditions. The aim of the study is to model
the tiger habitat suitability with the current human impacts with
integrated Geospatial technology. Our study used topographical and
anthropogenic variables to construct a habitat suitability model
for tigers in this park. According to our model, there are areas of
suitable habitat for tigers within the park. The corresponding
weights for the parameters are defined by knowledge-based approach
determined by field study and literature survey and thereafter by
applying MCDA where AHP (crisp and fuzzy) is applied. The resulting
weights imported in GIS mode and the map obtained from MCDA model
in GIS shows the optimum location for the site suitability for the
tiger.
The soils of two physiographic regions i.e. Aravali mountain ranges
and Malwa plateau consisting of four landforms viz. hill, pediment,
valley and plain were selected, in order to work out relationship
between soil and landforms and its effect on effective use of
available resources. Total eight pedons were examined in the field
and investigated in the laboratory using standard laboratory
procedures.Concentration of exchangeable bases was in order of
Ca2+>Mg2+>K+>Na+ in all the pedons soils. Micaceous
chlorites, chlorites, montmorillonite, smectite and quartz were
dominant clay minerals of hills except quartz in hills of Malwa
plateau. Smectite and montmorillonite mineral were present in
almost all pedon, but vermiculite mineral was found only in plains
of malwa plateau. The soils of all pedons were found deficient in
available nitrogen and phosphorus while adequate in available
potassium. The DTPA extractable micronutrients like iron, manganese
and copper were found sufficient and zinc was deficient in soils of
both transect. The soils of all pedons were classified in Entisols,
Inceptisols and Vertisols orders.Presently the land fullfil human
& animal requirements.
This book base on the study under selected tribal and nontribal
persons on the basis of means of weight, height, fat percentage and
fat mass are higher in non-tribal Sports person as compared to the
tribal Sports person and the reason seems to be that tribal Sports
person live in difficult climatic and geographical conditions which
requires more strenuous exertions in every walk of life leading to
more consumption of energy, secondly the food consumed by the
tribal is more rich in proteins, carbohydrates and minerals and
have less contents of fat resulting in more lean body mass and less
fat mass and because of this reason the mean weight and fat mass,
fat percentage are more in non-tribal Sports person. on the basis
of study it may concluded that tribal peoples are rich in all
resources but nontribal peoples have more powerful in comparison to
tribal on human power and nontribal peoples also take very fresh
and nutritive food. The results in relation to physical fitness
(strength) indicates that the tribal Sports person dominated in
pull ups, sit ups and standing broad jump as compared to the
non-tribal peoples have excellent.

In last few decades interest of researcher and peoples were
augmented in cosmetics. Harmful effect of chemicals used in
cosmetic preparation gives rise to herbal products in cosmetology.
Unlike chemical based products, herbs are by nature more friendly
to human body and therefore are completely safe, extremely
effective and have almost no negative side effects. They are used
in cosmetic for enhancing attractiveness and cleaning purpose.
Beside this the standardization of the herbs and quality control of
the herbs are very necessary in the cosmetic. Hence the book
focuses on the potential of herbal extract for cosmetic purpose.
More sophisticated formulation containing herbal extracts are
expected to appear in the future as cosmetic and various challenges
which may affect quality of herbal products. It also enlightens
various compendia's standardization techniques which effectively
control the quality of herbal cosmetics.
South Asia, harboring the complex Himalayan terrains, has over
one-fifth of the world's population and is recognized as the most
hazard-prone region of the world. The exponential increase in
population with the consequent pressure on natural resources and
continued high rates of poverty and food insecurity also makes this
region the most vulnerable region to hazards in the world as far as
the impacts of climate change are concerned. Over the last century,
the climatic trends in South-Asia have been observed to be
characterized by increasing air temperatures and an increasing
trend in the intensity and frequency of extreme events. IPCC (2014)
has reported that the Himalayan highlands shall face significant
warming over the next century. The increasing frequency of natural
hazards due to the impacts of climate change in the Himalayas calls
for efficient management and policymaking in these regions, which
can only be implemented by the local governments through an
established science-based robust action plan. This edited volume
focuses on the management of natural hazards using innovative
techniques of spatial information sciences and satellite remote
sensing. It contains chapters from eminent researchers and experts
in the field of hazard management, remote sensing, and GIS. The
primary focus of this book is to replenish the gap in the available
literature on the subject by bringing the concepts, theories, and
practical experiences of the specialists and professionals in this
field together in one volume to help students, researchers, and
policymakers to address issues concerning management and policy
implications of natural hazards in the complex Himalayan region.
In this book, an attempt has been made to study the response of
manures, inorganic fertilizers and micronutrients on nodulation,
growth and yield of Soybean (Glycine max. L. Merrill) as well as to
examine the influence of FYM, vermicompost, vermiwash and inorganic
inputs (NPK) on soil properties. The results from two field
experiments conducted at the Crop Research Centre of GBPUA&T,
Pantnagar (India) during kharif 2006 and kharif 2007 has been
presented and discussed here.
Roa Wioz (1882-1937), the locally-admired though otherwise
little-known Zumorgian translator, spent seventeen years of his
miserable life (when he wasn't tending to his beloved goats)
translating Lewis Carroll's classic "Alice's Adventures in
Wonderland" into Zumorigenflit and transposing it into u ian
culture. Sadly, u was swallowed up by the Soviet Union in 1947.
Most of its citizens were either purged (lined up and summarily
shot when they refused to combine their goats into a communal herd)
or transported to the Gulag for political re-education and attitude
adjustment. All cultural artifacts were systematically destroyed
and most Zumorigenflit books were burned as part of the Soviet
effort to obliterate u, along with any memory of it. The only known
present-day u ian survivors of The Great u Purge (other than any
possible survivors of the Gulag, whose descendants might
conceivably live in Siberia) are now toothless old women, whose
parents fled with them as infants from u to Transjordan the night
of the purge. Today they live (if you can call it that) in a
squalid refugee camp on the desert outskirts of Amman surrounded by
very unhappy and angry displaced Palestinians. Some of these u ian
refugees are still able to speak a little Zumorigenflit, though few
of them can read it. For those interested in such esoteric things,
"Alo k ujy Gigio Soagenli y" was first published by the Itadabukan
Press in the capital city of Sprutni ovyurt in 1919. The city,
which was mistakenly thought to be a German forward supply area,
was literally flattened and burned to the ground by Royal Air Force
saturation bombing in 1943, and all that remains of it are a few
remnants of the ancient Palace's foundations and a gigantic
reinforced concrete statue of Joseph Stalin, whose face has been
shattered by what was probably machine gun target practice. The
original story has here been updated to modern times, as if this
strange, harsh, and dangerous land still existed in the modern
world. It doesn't, except in my imagination and that of Mahendra
Singh, whose heart swells with the Song of the Goat. -- Byron W.

An organized evacuation of pedestrians entrapped in a building, in
emergencies such as those caused by fire, bomb blast, intentional
or unintentional release of toxins in buildings etc., is of utmost
importance. The focus of this book is on the development of a
formal control methodology for an orderly and jam-free evacuation
of pedestrians entrapped in a network of corridors in buildings in
such emergency situations. To develop an effective solution, the
pedestrian evacuation from a network of corridors is divided into
two basic problems of flow routing and flow control. In this study
the solutions of these two basic problems are developed. Concepts
are applied from the disciplines of control engineering, operations
research and transportation engineering to come up with novel ideas
which model the critical aspects of the emergency evacuation
scenario. While capturing the emergency egress situation
appropriately these ideas are purposely kept simple enough to
provide insights for practical applications.
