This proceedings volume gathers peer-reviewed, selected papers presented at the "Mathematical and Numerical Approaches for Multi-Wave Inverse Problems" conference at the Centre Internacional de Rencontres Mathematiques (CIRM) in Marseille, France, in April 2019. It brings the latest research into new, reliable theoretical approaches and numerical techniques for solving nonlinear and inverse problems arising in multi-wave and hybrid systems. Multi-wave inverse problems have a wide range of applications in acoustics, electromagnetics, optics, medical imaging, and geophysics, to name but a few. In turn, it is well known that inverse problems are both nonlinear and ill-posed: two factors that pose major challenges for the development of new numerical methods for solving these problems, which are discussed in detail. These papers will be of interest to all researchers and graduate students working in the fields of nonlinear and inverse problems and its applications.
By discussing topics such as shape representations, relaxation theory and optimal transport, trends and synergies of mathematical tools required for optimization of geometry and topology of shapes are explored. Furthermore, applications in science and engineering, including economics, social sciences, biology, physics and image processing are covered. Contents Part I Geometric issues in PDE problems related to the infinity Laplace operator Solution of free boundary problems in the presence of geometric uncertainties Distributed and boundary control problems for the semidiscrete Cahn-Hilliard/Navier-Stokes system with nonsmooth Ginzburg-Landau energies High-order topological expansions for Helmholtz problems in 2D On a new phase field model for the approximation of interfacial energies of multiphase systems Optimization of eigenvalues and eigenmodes by using the adjoint method Discrete varifolds and surface approximation Part II Weak Monge-Ampere solutions of the semi-discrete optimal transportation problem Optimal transportation theory with repulsive costs Wardrop equilibria: long-term variant, degenerate anisotropic PDEs and numerical approximations On the Lagrangian branched transport model and the equivalence with its Eulerian formulation On some nonlinear evolution systems which are perturbations of Wasserstein gradient flows Pressureless Euler equations with maximal density constraint: a time-splitting scheme Convergence of a fully discrete variational scheme for a thin-film equatio Interpretation of finite volume discretization schemes for the Fokker-Planck equation as gradient flows for the discrete Wasserstein distance

The contributions appearing in this volume are a snapshot of the different topics that were discussed during the Second Conference "Mathematics and Image Processing held at the University of Orl ans in 2010. They mainly concern, image reconstruction, texture extraction and image classification and involve a variety of different methods and applications. Therefore it was impossible to split the papers into generic groups which is why they are presented in alphabetic order. However they mainly concern: texture analysis (5 papers) with different techniques (variational analysis, wavelet and morphological component analysis, fractional Brownian fields), geometrical methods (2 papers ) for restoration and invariant feature detection, classification (with multifractal analysis), neurosciences imaging and analysis of Multi-Valued Images.

This course is an introduction to deterministic mathematical image processing. The main issues in processing and image analysis are presented: denoising, filtering, restoration, segmentation, enhancement and deblurring. There is also an overview of some acquisition techniques. Mathematical methods are essentially deterministic: Fourier transform, wavelets, partial differential equations, mathematical morphology and variational methods. Some applications are briefly presented to illustrate the topic, such as steganography, compression and inpainting. This self-contained book also includes a recap of the basic mathematical concepts used, and the extensive bibliography will enable readers to develop their skills. This book is intended for masters students, engineering students and researchers wanting to comprehend or deepen their understanding of thebasic mathematical techniques in processing and image analysis.
