Cuong Le Van, Van Pham Hoang, Makoto Tawada
R5,236 Discovery Miles 52 360 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This volume spotlights some of the most important economic issues confronting today's emerging developing countries. The topics studied in the book include the importance of productivity to economic growth, international trade and its relationship to productivity; immigration and brain drain; pollution havens, climate change, and the carbon tax; the effectiveness of foreign aid, the efficiency of education, and governance. Written by some of the most respected scholars in their respective fields, the individual chapters apply both economic theory and the most current empirical tools in rigorous but accessible exposition. Researchers can find value in the modeling and empirical techniques that can be applied to other countries and datasets. Policy makers can benefit from the intellectual foundation on which decisions on important issues can be based; and students of international trade, economic development, and environmental economics can gain knowledge of different country settings that give context to their fields of study.

Regional Free Trade Areas and Strategic Trade Policies (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2016): Takao... Regional Free Trade Areas and Strategic Trade Policies (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2016)
Takao Ohkawa, Makoto Tawada, Makoto Okamura, Ryoichi Nomura
R3,607 Discovery Miles 36 070 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book presents a theoretical investigation of the formation of regional free trade agreements (FTAs), the behavior of global enterprises, and government trade policies in various game forms including multi-stage games, repeated games, and timing games. In the last few decades, the number of FTAs has been rapidly increasing in the world, especially in Asia. In particular, East Asian countries are expected to be main engines for sustaining the world economy. Focusing on East Asian economies, strategic behaviors of governments and firms in order to attain their own aims are examined. The analytical methods employed in this book are those currently being developed or that recently have been created. The topics are important contemporary issues in regional areas facing the rapid economic changes brought about by globalization. Most chapters of this book are based on original work that was published in international journals but now has been completely rewritten, with restructuring and extension of the original work. This book, with its up-to-date information, will be of interest to academic researchers in universities and economic research institutions and to students working on advanced degrees in economics.

Production Structure and International Trade (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1989): Makoto Tawada Production Structure and International Trade (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1989)
Makoto Tawada
R1,516 Discovery Miles 15 160 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The present monograph analyses some topics in the pure theory of international trade. They are all concerned with the structure of production to which I have paid particular attention after the completion of my Ph.D. course at University of New South Wales. In my Ph.D. thesis, I studied extensively the production possibility sets under Professor Murray C. Kemp, who kindly contained all my products in his edi ting book, Production Sets (Academic Press, 1982). Since then, I have developed the work to the studies of international trade. The present volume is organized with these studies. Therefore, although the draft was written at Nagoya City University, the works at Tokyo Metropolitan Uni versi ty in 1980, Kobe Uni versi ty of Commerce from 1981 to 1984 and University of New South Wales in 1985 were also substantial. All uni versi ties provided me with comfortable circumstances and good colleagues for my academic work.

Hamid Beladi, Kwan Choi, Binh Tran-Nam, Ngo van Long, Makoto Tawada
R5,181 Discovery Miles 51 810 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This edited volume is a collection of latest research findings on topical issues in international trade theory and policy. The chapters are contributed by well known academic economists around the globe as a tribute to Professor Murray Kemp's 80th birthday. They cover three broad areas of globalization and emerging issues in international trade. The first part of the volume, containing five chapters, deals with trade liberalization and outsourcing. These chapters examine the role of the WTO, trade liberalization as a game under uncertainty, a Chamberlinian-Ricardian model, liberalization of government procurements, and outsourcing and import restriction policies. The second part of the volume, also containing five chapters, examines trading clubs and preferential trading agreements. These chapters extend the original Kemp-Wan proposition concerning customs unions in various directions. The final part of this book consists of six chapters on various aspects of trade and aid. These include a review of Kemp's contributions to trade and welfare economics, gains from trade and refusal to trade, increasing returns and oligopoly, tariff policy and foreign economic aid, infrastructure aid and deindustrialization, and environmental regulation and tourism.
