The two volumes "New Developments in Polymer Analytics" deal with recent progress in the characterization of polymers, mostly in solution but also at s- faces. Despite the fact that almost all of the described techniques are getting on in years, the contributions are expected to meet the readers interest because either the methods are newly applied to polymers or the instrumentation has achieved a major breakthrough leading to an enhanced utilizaton by polymer scientists. The first volume concentrates on separation techniques. H. Pasch summarizes the recent successes of multi-dimensional chromatography in the characteri- tion of copolymers. Both, chain length distribution and the compositional h- erogeneity of copolymers are accessible. Capillary electrophoresis is widely and successfully utilized for the characterization of biopolymers, particular of DNA. It is only recently that the technique has been applied to the characterization of water soluble synthetic macromolecules. This contributrion of Grosche and Engelhardt focuses on the analysis of polyelectrolytes by capillary electopho- sis. The last contribution of the first volume by Coelfen and Antonietti sum- rizes the achievements and pitfalls of field flow fractionation techniques. The major drawbacks in the instrumentation have been overcome in recent years and the"triple F techniques" are currently advancing to a powerful competitor to size exclusion chromatography.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Linguistik, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Wer des Ofteren mit der notwendigen Aufmerksamkeit durch deutsche Lande fahrt, dessen Blick wird irgendwann einmal auf eine Ortseingangstafel fallen, deren Beschriftung im ersten Moment beim Betrachter eine leichte Heiterkeit aufkommen lasst. Denn so selten sind sie gar nicht, die deutschen Stadte, Stadtteile und Gemeinden mit den kuriosen Ortsnamen. Nachdem uber Namen wie Lederhose, Habenichts, Wassersuppe, Katzenhirn oder Ekelsdorf herzhaft gelacht wurde, stellt sich der eine oder andere Zeitgenosse doch ernstlich die Frage, wie es zu solch eigentumlichen Namensgebungen gekommen ist. Zwei Probleme bei der Erarbeitung des Themas lagen darin, einen Ortsnamen objektiv und uberhaupt als kurios einzuordnen und diesen dann auf keinen Fall lacherlich zu machen. Wenn die vorliegende Arbeit eine unterhaltende Wirkung hat, ist dagegen nichts einzuwenden; es ist namlich nicht einzusehen, warum ernsthafte Bucher notwendigerweise knochentrocken und todlangweilig sein mussen. Andererseits sollte hier niemals ein Witzbuch entstehen, sondern der Versuch gemacht werden, innerhalb der Forschung zur deutschen Landeskunde die Genesis kurioser Ortsnamen wissenschaftlich darzulegen. Von immer wieder im Internet auftauchenden Webseiten von Selbstdarstellern und Pseudowitzbolden, die sich mit der Veralberung von kuriosen Ortsnamen profilieren wollen, distanziert sich der Inhalt dieses Buches ausdrucklich.

Eine fundamentale Schmalerung der Gebietshoheit ergibt sich durch das Einlegen fremder Gebietsteile, der exterritorialen Gebiete, in das Territorium eines Hoheitsgebietes. Hierbei ist es von geringer Relevanz, ob zwischen den betroffenen Staaten eine Zollgrenze besteht oder nicht. Eine fortgefallene Zollgrenze beeinflusst in keinster Weise die Souveranitat eines Staates, es sei denn, der Wegfall der Grenze fuhrt zu einer Verschmelzung zwischen den durch exterritoriale Gebiete behaftete Lander. Die mit Abstand am haufigsten vorkommenden Gebiete mit exterritorialem Charakter sind die Exklaven und Enklaven. Neben den Gebietssplittern existieren noch weitere exterritoriale Gebiete, denen aber nicht der Status von Exklaven und Enklaven zuerkannt werden kann, weil sie die Gebietshoheit des sie umschliessenden Staates in ihrem Areal nicht aufheben. Weitere territoriale Anomalien sind Gebietszipfel, die sich aufgrund ihres abnormen raumlichen Profils mehrfach als Storfelder internationaler Kontakte ausgewirkt haben. Ziel dieses Buches war neben der Beschreibung der vorgenannten Gebiete, deren Existenz oftmals nicht bekannt ist, primar die Untersuchung, wie gross das Storungspotential dieser territorialen Anomalien heute noch sind. Ein Abgleiten auf das Gebiet der Geschichte lasst sich hierbei - wie bei allen anderen politischgeographischen Themen - nicht ganz vermeide

Darum sollte fur das Verstehendes Wesens der Wissenschaften diese nicht nur in der festgelegten Norm, sondern auch in den Abweichungen untersucht werden. Naturgemass entziehen sich geographische Kuriositaten der statistischen Erfassung. Sie sind daher von der zufalligen Kenntnis einer Fachperson innerhalb einer sachkompetenten Institution abhangig, wodurch ein systematisches Sammeln solcher Merkwurdigkeiten nur partiell moglich ist.Kuriositaten konnen Einmaligkeiten sein, sie konnen aber auch mehrfach vorkommen und trotzdem eine Besonderheit darstellen. Ja, man konnte sogar von nicht existierenden Kuriositaten berichten, wie beispielsweise von der Loreley. Kuriositaten konnen (dem Fachmann) einen frischen Blick auf allzu vertraut Erscheinendes lenken und geben dabei Anlass zum Nachdenken.So uberraschend und seltsam eine Kuriositat sein kann, so relativ und nicht selten auch subjektiv ist sie in ihrer Interpretation. Kuriositaten konnen dicke Brocken oder nur Lappalien sein. Kuriositaten konnen Themen sein, an denen sich Kritik entzundet und sie konnen sicherlich auch lehrreich sein.Auch wenn auf den ersten Blick viele der aufgefuhrten geographischen Merkwurdigkeiten scheinbar einen wissenschaftlichen Hintergrund vermissen lassen - er ist in den meisten Fallen nachzuweisen, auch wenn die geographische Kuriositat noch so trivial erscheint.Die nachfolgende Sammlung enthalt kapitale Bocke, aber auch manche Trivialitat. Rekorde wurden nur dann berucksichtigt, wenn sie von kuriosem Inhalt waren und keines

Wohl kaum eine andere Pragung von Mutter Natur gestaltet das Bild der Erde so mannigfaltig und ereignisreich wie die Inseln. Eine Insel, so die Definition der meisten Lexika, ist mit Ausnahme der Kontinente (Australien) jede Landmasse, die vollstandig von Wasser umgeben ist. Das trifft ebenfalls auf Landmassen zu, die in Flussen oder Seen liegen. Auch wenn diese zum Teil nur wenige Meter vom Festland entfernt liegen und manche mit dem Ufer durch Brucken oder Damme verbunden sind, mussen sie als Inseln definiert werden. Wenn man nun davon ausgeht, dass die deutschen Fluss- und Binnenseeinseln nicht sehr gross sind, weil die deutschen Binnenseen nicht sehr gross - und die deutschen Flusse nicht sehr breit sind, stellt sich die Frage, was macht diese Inseln untersuchungswurdig? Nun, da die Adjektive klein und gross bekanntlicherweise relativ sind, konnen die deutschen Strom- und Binnenseeinseln in vielfacher Hinsicht von Interesse sein. Die Untersuchungen in diesem Buch galten primar ihren okologischen Potentialen und sekundar, praktisch sich aus dieser Untersuchung ergebend, ihren teilweise hochinteressanten historischen Hintergrunden. Die hohe Schutzwurdigkeit vieler Fluss- und Binnenseeinseln basiert insgesamt gesehen vor allem auf dem ausgepragten Naturlichkeitsgrad weiter Bereiche dieser Inseln. Bis auf einige kleine und kleinste Inseln, in ebenso kleinen und kleinsten Seen und Flussen, wurden alle deutschen Fluss- und Binnenseeinseln in die Untersuchung einbezogen. Praktisch ausser Konkurrenz, weil aber von hohem historischen Wert, fand hier auch die kunstlich angelegte Insel Wilhelmstein im Steinhuder Meer Aufnahme, ansonsten waren kunstlich angelegten Inseln von den Untersuchungen ausgeschlossen.
