After a successful tour of the Central European cabarets, flamenco dancer Juan Martinez and his partner Sole were caught by surprise in Russia by the revolutionary events of February of 1917. In November of 1936, Manuel Chaves Nogales, disheartened by the course of the civil war, decides to leave Spain and go live with his family in Paris. Once there he collaborates with both French and Latin American presses, and even begins a small publication about the current Spanish situation aimed at Republican exiles. Knowing he has been targeted by the Gestapo, mere days before the Nazis invade Paris in 1940, Chaves Nogales leaves the city for Bordeaux and then London, where he will remain until his death.
