Ultra Low Power Transceiver for Wireless Body Area Networks (Hardcover, 2013 ed.): Jens Masuch, Manuel Delgado-Restituto Ultra Low Power Transceiver for Wireless Body Area Networks (Hardcover, 2013 ed.)
Jens Masuch, Manuel Delgado-Restituto
R3,161 Discovery Miles 31 610 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) are expected to promote new applications for the ambulatory health monitoring of chronic patients and elderly population, aiming to improve their quality of life and independence. These networks are composed by wireless sensor nodes (WSNs) used for measuring physiological variables (e.g., glucose level in blood or body temperature) or controlling therapeutic devices (e.g., implanted insulin pumps). These nodes should exhibit a high degree of energy autonomy in order to extend their battery lifetime or even make the node supply to rely on harvesting techniques. Typically, the power budget of WSNs is dominated by the wireless link and, hence, many efforts have been directed during the last years toward the implementation of power efficient transceivers.

Because of the short range (typically no more than a few meters) and low data rate (typically in between 10 kb/s and 1 Mb/s), simple communication protocols can be employed. One of these protocols, specifically tailored for WBAN applications, is the Bluetooth low energy (BLE) standard.

This book describes the challenges and solutions for the design of ultra-low power transceivers for WBANs applications and presents the implementation details of a BLE transceiver prototype. Coverage includes not only the main concepts and architectures for achieving low power consumption, but also the details of the circuit design and its implementation in a standard CMOS technology."

Device-Level Modeling and Synthesis of High-Performance Pipeline ADCs (Hardcover, 2011 ed.): Jesus Ruiz-Amaya, Manuel... Device-Level Modeling and Synthesis of High-Performance Pipeline ADCs (Hardcover, 2011 ed.)
Jesus Ruiz-Amaya, Manuel Delgado-Restituto, Angel Rodriguez-Vazquez
R2,660 Discovery Miles 26 600 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book presents models and procedures to design pipeline analog-to-digital converters, compensating for device inaccuracies, so that high-performance specs can be met within short design cycles. These models are capable of capturing and predicting the behavior of pipeline data converters within less than half-a-bit deviation, versus transistor-level simulations. As a result, far fewer model iterations are required across the design cycle. Models described in this book accurately predict transient behaviors, which are key to the performance of discrete-time systems and hence to the performance of pipeline data converters.

Chaotic Electronics in Telecommunications (Hardcover): Manuel Delgado-Restituto Chaotic Electronics in Telecommunications (Hardcover)
Manuel Delgado-Restituto; Edited by Gianluca Setti; Contributions by Martin Hasler, Angel Rodriguez-Vazquez, Geza Kolumban, …
R6,928 Discovery Miles 69 280 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

At the code level, discrete-time chaotic systems can be used to generate spreading codes for DS-SS systems. At the signal level, continuous-time chaotic systems can be used to generate wideband carriers for digital modulation schemes.

The potential of chaos engineering is now recognized worldwide, with research groups actively pursuing the exploitation of chaotic phenomena in cryptography, spread spectrum communications, electromagnetic interference reduction, and many other applications. Although some noteworthy results have already been achieved, until now, the field has lacked both a systematic treatment of these developments and a careful, quantitative comparison of chaos-based and conventional techniques.

Chaotic Electronics in Telecommunications fills both of those needs. It addresses the use of chaos in digital communications applications, from the coding level to circuit design. Each chapter offers a formal exposition of the theoretical and engineering tools needed to apply chaos, followed by discussion of the algorithms and circuits needed to apply the theory to real-world communications systems.
