Tauberian Operators (Hardcover, 2010 ed.): Manuel Gonzalez, Antonio Martinez-Abejon Tauberian Operators (Hardcover, 2010 ed.)
Manuel Gonzalez, Antonio Martinez-Abejon
R2,687 Discovery Miles 26 870 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Tauberian operators were introduced to investigate a problem in summability theory from an abstract point of view. Since that introduction, they have made a deep impact on the isomorphic theory of Banach spaces. In fact, these operators have been useful in several contexts of Banach space theory that have no apparent or obvious connections. For instance, they appear in the famous factorization of Davis, Figiel, Johnson and Pelczynski [49] (henceforth the DFJP factorization), in the study of exact sequences of Banach spaces [174], in the solution of certain summability problems of tauberian type [63, 115], in the problem of the equivalence between the Krein-Milman property and the Radon-Nikodym property [151], in certain sequels of James' characterization of reflexive Banach spaces [135], in the construction of hereditarily indecomposable Banach spaces [13], in the extension of the principle of local reflexivity to operators [27], in the study of certain Calkin algebras associated with the weakly compact operators [16], etc. Since the results concerning tauberian operators appear scattered throughout the literature, in this book we give a unified presentation of their properties and their main applications in functional analysis. We also describe some questions about tauberian operators that remain open. This book has six chapters and an appendix. In Chapter 1 we show how the concept of tauberian operator was introduced in the study of a classical problem in summability theory - the characterization of conservative matrices that sum no bounded divergent sequences - by means of functional analysis techniques. One of those solutions is due to Crawford [45], who considered the second conjugate of the operator associated with one of those matrices.

R3,415 Discovery Miles 34 150 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The computational modelling of deformations has been actively studied for the last thirty years. This is mainly due to its large range of applications that include computer animation, medical imaging, shape estimation, face deformation as well as other parts of the human body, and object tracking. In addition, these advances have been supported by the evolution of computer processing capabilities, enabling realism in a more sophisticated way. This book encompasses relevant works of expert researchers in the field of deformation models and their applications. The book is divided into two main parts. The first part presents recent object deformation techniques from the point of view of computer graphics and computer animation. The second part of this book presents six works that study deformations from a computer vision point of view with a common characteristic: deformations are applied in real world applications. The primary audience for this work are researchers from different multidisciplinary fields, such as those related with Computer Graphics, Computer Vision, Computer Imaging, Biomedicine, Bioengineering, Mathematics, Physics, Medical Imaging and Medicine.

Marta Gancarczyk, Anna Ujwary-Gil, Manuel Gonzalez-Lopez
R4,506 Discovery Miles 45 060 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This monograph presents the experience in the implementation of smart specialization strategies (S3) from multilevel policy governance, as well as from the bottom-up perspectives of firms, clusters, and networks in selected European countries. The presented research focuses on relevance and feasibility of the S3 adoption, emphasizing the importance of linking policy considerations with partnerships at lower governance levels. The major contribution of the presented research rests in theoretical implications and practical recommendations relevant for the implementation of regional S3 in the European context, with the possibility of place-based adoption in other environments. The book is also valuable for synthesizing the most recent advancements in smart specialization as a policy concept and the concept of transformation and growth for territorial units and economic entities. This book aims to further diffuse and expand the academic community's learning of the new S3 approach in Europe and beyond. The book will be of interest and useful to the academic community of researchers and doctoral students focused on regional innovation development and related policy, as well as on entrepreneurship, networks, and clusters. Public sector professionals dealing with regional development, regional innovation policies, and industrial transformation will also benefit from its content.

Manuel Gonzalez de Molina, Paulo Frederico Petersen, Francisco Garrido Pena, Francisco Roberto Caporal
R4,490 Discovery Miles 44 900 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Political Agroecology is the first book to offer a systematic and articulated reflection on Political Agroecology from the Agroecological perspective. It defines the disciplinary field responsible for designing and producing actions, institutions and regulations aimed at achieving agrarian sustainability. In short, it aims to build a political theory that makes the scaling-up of agroecological experiences possible, turning them into the foundation of a new and alternative food regime. The book proposes theoretical, practical and epistemological foundations of a new theoretical and practical field of work for agroecologists: Political Agroecology. It establishes a framework for a common agroecological strategy, covering the different levels of collective action and the different instruments with which it can be developed. This will be essential reading for agroecologists, environmentalists, farming and food communities, and an ideal textbook for advanced agroecology courses in universities. Key features: Offers a unique state of the art on this fundamental new topic: Political Agroecology Presents a complete introduction to the political and institutional aspects of Agroecology, covering the whole food system Offers an important tool for searching agrarian sustainability Provides a broad epistemological, theoretical and methodological focus, exploring the connection between the different levels and scales involved in agroecological theory and practice

Separably Injective Banach Spaces (Paperback, 1st ed. 2016): Antonio Aviles, Felix Cabello Sanchez, Jesus M. F. Castillo,... Separably Injective Banach Spaces (Paperback, 1st ed. 2016)
Antonio Aviles, Felix Cabello Sanchez, Jesus M. F. Castillo, Manuel Gonzalez, Yolanda Moreno
R2,005 Discovery Miles 20 050 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This monograph contains a detailed exposition of the up-to-date theory of separably injective spaces: new and old results are put into perspective with concrete examples (such as l /c0 and C(K) spaces, where K is a finite height compact space or an F-space, ultrapowers of L spaces and spaces of universal disposition). It is no exaggeration to say that the theory of separably injective Banach spaces is strikingly different from that of injective spaces. For instance, separably injective Banach spaces are not necessarily isometric to, or complemented subspaces of, spaces of continuous functions on a compact space. Moreover, in contrast to the scarcity of examples and general results concerning injective spaces, we know of many different types of separably injective spaces and there is a rich theory around them. The monograph is completed with a preparatory chapter on injective spaces, a chapter on higher cardinal versions of separable injectivity and a lively discussion of open problems and further lines of research.
