Double bill of documentaries from British film-maker Marc Isaacs.
'Someday My Prince Will Come' (2005) looks at life in a small
coastal town in Cumbria and follows a young girl and her cousin as
they share memories from their childhood and begin to think about
what the future may hold. 'Philip and His Seven Wives' (2005) tells
the story of Philip Sharp, an ex-rabbi attempting to build a new
godly family in his quiet suburban neighbourhood. Believing he has
communicated directly with God, Sharp claims he is a former Hebrew
king and therefore entitled to take seven wives.
Double bill of documentaries from Marc Isaacs. 'All White in
Barking' (2007) examines the attitudes the white citizens of
Barking have towards the immigrants living in the area. These
attitudes generally involve prejudices which focus on what clothes
the immigrants wear, the religion they follow and the food they
eat. 'Men of the City' (2009) follows a trader, a street-sweeper,
an immigrant and an insurance agent in London as they attempt to
move forward in the economic crisis and discover their place in the
capital city.
Collection of three documentaries by the filmmaker Marc Isaacs.
After working as an assistant to the renowned filmmaker Pawel
Pawlikowski, Isaacs has created three films that each capture a
part of modern life in Britain. The first, 'Lift' (2001), is filmed
in the elevator of a tower block in the East End of London, and
captures the different reactions and behaviour of those who enter
it. The second, 'Travellers' (2002), is a touching film about the
human need for love, which is shown through the stories of five
different people Isaacs meets on trains and at train stations
across England. The third film, 'Calais - The Last Border' (2003),
examines a host of interesting characters that includes refugees
and migrants desperate to cross The Channel to England, and Steve
who runs an English pub in the French harbour town.
Documentary film from Marc Isaacs which follows a number of people
as they attempt to integrate themselves into a contemporary London
setting after leaving their respective homes. Believing it to be a
place where dreams can be realised, many diverse characters alight
on London every day in the hopes of finding a better life, but what
this film shows is that not every story is a success story. From
Iqbal Ahmed's struggle to earn enough money so that his wife can
join him to Keelta's dreams of becoming a recognised singer, the
film highlights the isolation and hardships that many are forced to
contend with.
