It is Halloween night and all the kids are dressed in scary and funny costumes.  Their Trick or Treat bags are getting heavier.

Nate's good friend Rosamond needs his help.  Her cat, Little Hex, is missing.  Little Hex hates Halloween, so maybe he's hiding.  Or is he lost?  Nate and his trusty dog Sludge take the case and hunt in the night for Little Hex.  They pass robots, pirates, and witches.  But where will they find Little Hex?

Shortly after a breakfast generously supplied with pancakes, Natethe Great got an urgent call from Annie.

"I lost a picture," said Annie. "Can you help me find it?"

"Of course," said Nate. "I have found lost balloons, books, slippers, chickens. Even a lost goldfish. Now I, Nate the Great, will find a lost picture."

"Oh, good," Annie said.

Nate, with the cool detachment of a Sam Spade, immediately plunges into his new and baffling case. Getting all the facts, asking the right questions, narrowing down the suspects. Nate, the boy detective who "likes to work alone," solves the mystery and tracks down the culprit. In the process he also discovers the whereabouts of Super Hex, the missing cat.

Nate the Great, super sleuth, has his work cut out for him when Rosamond loses his birthday present.  He and his faithful dog Sludge must face snow, ice, and ferocious-looking Fang, Annie's dog, to solve the case.  But how can Nate find his missing present when Rosamond won't tell him what it is?

Trees are beautiful. They fill up the sky. If you have a tree, you can climb up its trunk, roll in its leaves, or hang a swing from one of its limbs. Cows and babies can nap in the shade of a tree. Birds can make nests in the branches. A tree is good to have around. A tree is nice.

Nate the Great is about to enter his dog, Sludge, in the smartest pet contest. But when the prize disappears, it looks as if the contest will flop.

It's a tough case for Nate and Sludge as they search for clues leading to the missing prize. In more ways than one, it's a very fishy business. Can Nate and Sludge find the prize in time?

Although Nate the Great and his dog, Sludge, are on vacation, they just can't resist a new case.  When his friend Claude's grocery list is lost, Nate sets out to find it before lunch. But lunch draws nearer and the list is still missing.  Nate the Great is worried: his reputation is at stake.  It looks as if list has vanished--unless Rosamond's strange cat pancakes are somehow at the heart of the mystery.

Nate the Great hates mushy stuff. But when he spies a big red paper heart taped to the outside of Sludge's doghouse, Nate knows he must help out his favorite pooch. Wh has left Sludge a secret valentine?

It's a mystery until Nate finds out his friend Annie is missing a valentine. The case seems easy. Nate is relieved. No more mushy stuff. That's what he thinks.

It's gone! Oliver's boring blue beach bag is gone. Inside are his clothes, shoes, and a special seashell. All he has left is his beach ball.

This is a perfect case for Nate the Great and his trusty dog Sludge. But they don't find many clues in the sand and surf. What trail should they follow next? Follow the leader to find out!

Nate the Great has his first night case! "Detective work is not fun and games," Nate explains. "Detective work is dirty garbage cans instead of clean beds. Detective work is banana peels, dishrags, milk cartons, floor sweepings, cigar ashes, fleas, and me..."

It's a tough case. Somebody is raiding Oliver's garbage can each night, but who? The list of suspects is long--Rosamond and Esmeralda, the girls down the street; Rosamond's cats; and all the shrews, moles skunks, birds, and racoons in the neighborhood. Nate courageousely encounters a skunk (nose first) and a telephone pole (head on), but not until he goes under cover of the garbage-can lid does he narrow the suspects down to one.

Rosamond is visiting Sweden when she loses her special present for Nate the Great: a troll. Now she wants Nate to find it--all the way from home. If he won't, Rosamond is going to ask the king of Sweden for help. Nate doesn't want Rosamond to bother the poor king. And he doesn't really want the troll. But Nate the Great does want to solve his first-ever international case. Where is the missing present? The case leads Nate to a palace fit for a troll.
