Four city businessmen take a weekend canoeing trip through the remote Appalachian wilderness, before the area is flooded for a new dam.
Their inexperience and pride make them easy targets for hostile, inbred hillbillies, and the men all react differently to their situation as it becomes more perilous.
Directed by John Boorman, this three-time Oscar-nominated film serves as an allegory for America's experiences in Vietman.

The Hungarian Yearbook of International Law and European Law
comprises a collection of articles written mainly by Hungarian
authors, covering developments in the field of international law
and EU law, and progress in the domestic implementation and
application of these fields of law. The thematic chapter of Vol. 9
(2021), entitled 'Public Health Emergency: National, European and
International Law Responses', tackles different legal aspects
related to dealing with the consequences of COVID-19, while the
Anniversary section is dedicated to the commemoration of the 90th
birthday of Ferenc Madl, professor of private international law and
President of the Republic (2000-2005). The Yearbook also contains
numerous articles on new developments in European law and
international law, Hungarian state practice, case notes and book
reviews. The Yearbook offers a comprehensive picture of the state
of application and implementation of international law and EU law
in Hungary.
Half of all insect species are dependent on living plant tissues,
consuming about 10 per cent of plant annual production in natural
habitats and an even greater percentage in agricultural systems,
despite sophisticated control measures. Plants possess defences
that are effective against almost all herbivorous insect species.
Host-plant specialization, observed in over 80 percent of these
animals, appears to be an effective adaptation to breach these
defence systems. The mechanisms underlying plant defence to
invading herbivores on the one side, and insect adaptations to
utilize plants for nutrition, defence and shelter on the other, are
the main subjects of this book. For plants exposed to insect
herbivores, these mechanisms include the activation of defence
systems and the emission of chemical signals which may attract
natural enemies of the invading herbivores and may even be
exploited by neighbouring plants to induce an early defence.
Financial crises have been pervasive for many years. Their
frequency in recent decades has been double that of the Bretton
Woods Period (1945-1971) and the Gold Standard Era (1880-1993),
comparable only to the period during the Great Depression.
Nevertheless, the financial crisis that started in the summer of
2007 came as a great surprise to most people. What initially was
seen as difficulties in the U.S. subprime mortgage market, rapidly
escalated and spilled over first to financial markets and then to
the real economy. The crisis changed the financial landscape
worldwide and its full costs are yet to be evaluated. One important
reason for the global impact of the 2007-2009 financial crisis was
massive illiquidity in combination with an extreme exposure of many
financial institutions to liquidity needs and market conditions. As
a consequence, many financial instruments could not be traded
anymore, investors ran on a variety of financial institutions
particularly in wholesale markets, financial institutions and
industrial firms started to sell assets at fire sale prices to
raise cash, and central banks all over the world injected huge
amounts of liquidity into financial systems. But what is liquidity
and why is it so important for firms and financial institutions to
command enough liquidity? This book brings together classic
articles and recent contributions to this important field of
research. It is divided into five parts. These are (i) liquidity
and interbank markets; (ii) the public provision of liquidity and
regulation; (iii) money, liquidity and asset prices; (iv) contagion
effects; (v) financial crises and currency crises. The aim is to
provide a comprehensive coverage of role of liquidity in financial
crises.

Classic comedy starring George Formby as a man who heads to London
in search of fame only to find himself accused of murder. George
Trotter (Formby) is convinced he will make it on stage and duly
checks in at Ma Tubbs (Hilda Mundy)'s theatrical boarding house.
Unfortunately for George, when the performer in the next room,
acrobat Tom Driscoll (Dennis Wyndham), is found murdered, George is
Chief Inspector Twyning (Ian Fleming)'s prime suspect. Can George
find out the true identity of the killer, or will his attempts to
solve the case only provide further evidence for the police to use
against him?
Written "with intelligence, compassion, and an occasional quiet
lyricism" (Krys Lee, The Guardian), this mesmerizing novel is about
a North Korean boy whose life is irrevocably changed when he
stumbles across a mysterious Western book--a guide to Dungeons
& Dragons--from the acclaimed author of the "sublime" (The New
York Times) Far North. Ten-year-old Jun-su is a bright and obedient
boy whose only desire is to be a credit to his family, his nation,
and most importantly, his Dear Leader. However, when he discovers a
copy of The Dungeon Master's Guide, left behind in a hotel room by
a rare foreign visitor, a new and colorful world opens up to him.
With the help of an English-speaking teacher, Jun-su deciphers the
rules of the famous role-playing game and his imaginary adventures
sweep him away from the harsh reality of a famine-stricken North
Korea. Over time, the game leads Jun-su on a spellbinding and
unexpected journey through the hidden layers of his country, toward
precocious success, glory, love, betrayal, prison, a spell at the
pinnacle of the North Korean elite, and an extraordinary kind of
redemption. An "expert, engrossing" (Kirkus Reviews, starred
review), and uplifting novel, The Sorcerer of Pyongyang is a love
story and a tale of survival against the odds. Inspired by the
testimony of North Korean refugees and drawing on the author's
personal experience of North Korea, it explores the power of
empathy and imagination in a society where they are dangerous
liabilities.
