Although in Latin America there are no educational programs
specialized in comparative education, as there are in some
European, Oriental and North American universities, there are
scholars who cultivate this field. With the production of this
book, the authors -most of them affiliated to member organizations
of the World Council of Comparative Education Societies- are
walking towards a Latin American network of researchers with an
interest in establishing a dialogue with non-Spanish speaking
colleagues from the rest of the world. This is the reason of our
effort in writing most of the chapters in English. Comparative
education, as all disciplinary fields, has evolved with different
ways of thinking, approaching and constructing its objects of
research and analysis, which are nurtured by different
epistemological traditions living together in our times, enriching
and bringing complexities. From Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil,
Peru, Venezuela, Costa Rica and Mexico, the authors of the book
pose questions, historical descriptions, reflections, discussions
and cases to set forth their views.
This edited book focuses on the most controversial aspects of
assistance benefits as mandated by the Brazilian Constitution of
1988 - and the challenges that have merged since the approval, in
1993, of the Federal Act 8.742, also known as Organic Law of Social
Assistance. This collection of essays allows the reader to
understand some important changes in social assistance policies in
Brazil in recent years, having the General Theory of Social
Security and the Human Rights as references. The tensions between
economic principles and affirmative policies for the less
advantaged parts of the society are also covered, showing how
different interpretations of key concepts - like need, poverty or
family - may have an important role on the exercise of fundamental
rights.

This book brings together studies that contribute to the emergence
of a latinx queer psychology. LGBTQ+ studies have gradually
included the perspective of sexual and gender diversity, but they
have been predominantly elaborated from North American and European
perspectives. This book focuses on different understandings and
practices developed by Latin American researchers that contribute
to a broader application of psychological knowledge in LGBTQ+
studies, as well as sexual and gender diversity issues, but goes
beyond the region by also incorporating chapters written by
European and North American authors influenced by latinx
perspectives. Latin American psychology has developed original
approaches to LGBTQ+ studies based on a new theoretical critique to
the mainstream psychological theories that has given rise to a new
queer psychology. The chapters in this book showcase both
theoretical contributions and empirical researches in this emerging
field from six Latin American countries - Argentina, Brazil, Chile,
Colombia, Costa Rica and Uruguay - as well as from Spain, the
United States and Puerto Rico. Latinx Queer Psychology:
Contributions to the Study of LGBTIQ+, Sexual and Gender Diversity
Issues aims to contribute to the decolonization of psychological
knowledge and practices addressing sexual and gender diversity
issues, and to serve as a useful resource for social, community,
clinical and educational psychologists working with research and
practice involving LGBTIQ+ populations, as well as to social
scientists in general interested in queer and gender studies.
ICP-MS and Trace Element Analysis as Tools for Better Understanding
Medical Conditions, Volume 97 discusses trace elements and how they
play an important role in biological functions and metabolism in
the human body. Chapters cover Biomedical analysis by ICP-MS: A
focus on single cell, Advanced statistical tools and machine
learning applied to trace element analysis associated with medical
conditions, ICP-MS as a tool to understand trace element
homeostasis in neurological disorders, High-precision isotopic
analysis of essential mineral elements - possibilities for medical
diagnosis and prognosis, Exploring ICP-MS as a versatile technique:
From imaging to chemical speciation, and more.
tematicos: I. Perspectivas teoricas y politicas, II. Desafios y
temas criticos y III. Internacionalizacion e instituciones.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 19th Collaboration
Researchers' International Working Group Conference on
Collaboration and Technology, held in Wellington, New Zealand, in
October/November 2013. The 18 revised papers presented together
with 4 progress papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 34
submissions. They are organized into six thematic sessions as
follows social media, social networks, crowdsourcing, learning,
collaboration design and software development.

This book covers the new Omics area, Metallomics. As Metallomics is
intrinsically a transdisciplinary area, this book is authored by
experts in the field on such diverse topics as Environmental,
Nuclear, and Human Metallomics. Within these topics metals play
important role, as being part of biomolecules, controlling
different biochemical process, being signaling agents, being
catalyst of biochemical reactions, among others. This volume
demonstrates the importance of more investigation about metals and
their interactions with biomolecules. As the knowledge in this
field is growing and growing daily, then new challenges concerning
studies involving Metallomics is appearing, such as comparative
metallomics, speciation metallomics, real-time metallomics, new
predictions of metals in biomolecules, metalloprotein databank
expansion, interactions between metalloprotein-metalloprotein,
among others.

Sample preparation plays an essential role in analytical
procedures. The estimated errors of measurement methods commonly
used are usual below 20 per cent. The errors of sample preparation
procedures can easily rise to more than 200 per cent. Relating to
the total error of an analytical procedure it is more effective to
invest efforts and money in the improvement of sample preparation
techniques instead of squeezing the measurement procedures to get
one or two percent improvement in standard deviation. This book is
a concoction of chapters dealing with an overview of the latest
developments in various sample preparation techniques for inorganic
and organic analytes. Not only sample preparation techniques are
described but also some sampling and measurement procedures.
