Thierry Priol, Marco Vanneschi
R2,935 Discovery Miles 29 350 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Grids are a crucial enabling technology for scientific and industrial development. Peer-to-peer computing, grid, distributed storage technologies, emerging web service technologies, and other types of networked distributed computing have provided new paradigms exploiting distributed resources. Grids are revolutionizing computing as profoundly as e-mail and the Web.

From Grids to Service and Pervasive Computing, the 10th edited volume of the CoreGRID series, is based on the 2008 CoreGRID Symposium, held August 25-26 in the Canary Islands, Spain. The CoreGRID Symposium is organized jointly with the Euro-Par 2008 conference. The aim of this symposium is to strengthen and advance scientific and technological excellence in the area of grid and peer-to-peer computing.

This volume is designed for a professional audience composed of researchers and practitioners within the grid and peer-to-peer computing industry. This volume is also suitable for advanced-level students in computer science.

Euro-Par Conference Series Euro-Par is an annual series of international conferences dedicated to the p- motion and advancement of all aspectsof parallelcomputing. The major themes can be divided into the broad categories of hardware, software, algorithms and applications for parallel computing. The objective of Euro-Par is to provide a forum within which to promote the development of parallel computing both as an industrial technique and an academic discipline, extending the frontier of both the state of the art and the state of the practice. This is particularly - portant at a time when parallel computing is undergoing strong and sustained development and experiencing real industrial take-up. The main audience for, and participants at, Euro-Par are seen as researchers in academic departments, government laboratories and industrial organizations. Euro-Par's objective is to be the primary choice of such professionals for the presentation of new - sults in their speci?c areas. Euro-Par also targets applications demonstrating the e?ectiveness of parallelism. This year's Euro-Par conference was the tenth in the conference series. The previous Euro-Par conferences took place in Sto- holm, Lyon, Passau, Southampton, Toulouse, Munich, Manchester, Paderborn and Klagenfurt. Next year the conference will take place in Lisbon. Euro-Par has a permanent Web site hosting the aims, the organization structure details as well as all the conference history: http: //www. europar. org.

This volume contains the proceedings of an ESPRIT Advanced Course entitled Future Parallel Computers held in Pisa, June 9-20, 1986. Interest in parallel computers has shown a dramatic increase in recent years. In the last six years, after Japan launched its national Fifth Generation Project to develop parallel computers for use in the 1990s, most other major industrial countries have started comparable national research programmes. For example, a significant proportion of the European Community's $1.3 billion ESPRIT Programme is devoted to future parallel computers. The competition between the national research programmes, to develop a new generation of computers, has been a catalyst for parallel computer development. In addition, many new parallel computer products are beginning to appear on the market. The 15 chapters of these proceedings are arranged in three parts: Firstly, tutorials on the main classes of parallel computers are presented; secondly, these classes of computers are illustrated by examining important parallel systems being developed; and lastly, important topics that influence all classes of parallel computers are studied in depth.
