In this follow-up to Twelve Days of Winter here is another book to
read or sing along with children. In this reimagined version of The
Twelve Days of Christmas, wildlife is observed during summer. The
animals enjoy the greening of the land, the blooming of flowers,
and the warmth of the sun. Summer is also a busy time for animal
parents who are wrangling their little ones. Read or sing along as
you observe animals enjoy the first days of summer. For ages 3 to
8. “On the first day of summer we looked around to see, a
porcupine in a fir tree.”
Based on the proceedings of a Symposium held during the 2002 World
Congress of the Oxygen Club of California, 2002.
True to the nature of the Gedenkschrift, this commemorative
publication celebrates the work of sociologist Dr. William
Freudenburg, one of the founding editors of RSPPP and Dehlsen
Professor, University of California, Santa Barbara. Chapters
include personal reminiscences as well as research that reflect and
build on Dr. Freudenburg's theories including recreancy,
bureaucratic slippage, his research in environmental disasters,
climate change natural resources, technological risk and Scientific
Certainty Argumentation Method (SCAM). Government transparency,
power and control are also among the topics discussed.
Government secrecy (GS) is a significant social, political, and
policy issue and often presents as a barrier to civic
participation, public right-to-know, historical understanding, and
institutional accountability. This volume examines GS in a variety
of contexts, including comparative examination of government
control of information, new definitions, categories, censorship,
ethics, and secrecy's relationship with freedom of information and
transparency. It investigates GS in terms of its current
theoretical descriptions as power over and concealment of
information (Bok 1983), a 'tampering of communications' (Friedrich
1972), the 'compulsory withholding of knowledge, reinforced by the
prospects of sanctions for disclosure' (Shils), or Georg Simmel's
(1906) idea of secrecy creating the 'possibility of a second
world'. Following the introduction this book is divided into the
following six sections: Government Secrecy: Theoretical Musings;
Government Secrecy and the Media; Government Secrecy and
Technology; Freedom of Information; Government Secrecy: Current
Policy; and Ethics. Articles are sourced from around the world and
include some from USA, Mexico, Africa, Israel and Britain.
7 Les Houches The purpose of this workshop was to bring together,
for the first time, active scientists from very different fields,
such as physics, chemistry, physiology and the behavioural
sciences, all having a common interest: The interac tion of static
magnetic fields with biological and macromolecular matter. As
physicists, biologists and medical scientists naturally have
different scientific competences, attitudes and abilities, this
appeared to be an enterprise of un certain issue. However, it
turned out that all participants tried to find (and many succeeded
in reaching) a mutual basis of understanding. Thanks to a fair
number of outstanding, comprehensive talks and to very active
discus sions, most of us, we believe, have substantially enlarged
our insight into the actual hard facts within a research area that
was considered for a long time - and still remains in many aspects
- somewhat controversial. The perhaps most striking and useful
reaction to magnetic fields at the supermolecular level is the
alignment of biopolymers, proteins, viruses, large assemblies such
as retinal rods and membranes when suspended in a solvent, usually
water. The ease of alignment depends on the anisotropy of the dia
magnetic susceptibility of the constituent groups and bonds and, in
addition, on the extent of their mutual orientational order inside
a macromolecular assembly. Here very strong fields above I-lOT
appear to be necessary, in general, to achieve measurable
alignment."
Natural, nontoxic, inexpensive, and effective alternatives to
conventional medicine exist, yet they have been suppressed by the
profit-driven medical-pharmaceutical complex. Presenting a
compendium of some of the most revolutionary yet still widely
unknown discoveries in health and energy medicine, this book edited
by Finley Eversole, Ph.D., explores the use of microcrystals to
harmonize the energies of body, mind, and environment; the healing
effects of ozone and hydrogen peroxide therapy; ways to combat
electromagnetic fields and environmental toxins; sources of
disruptive energy that cause stress and health problems, including
other people's negative emotions; and how to tap in to healing
antioxidant electrons from the Earth. The book reveals the
scientifically proven health risks of genetically modified
foods--the first irreversible technology in human history with
still unknown consequences. It looks at the link between industrial
farming and the precipitous rise in heart disease, cancer,
diabetes, and Alzheimer's over the past 100 years, providing a
10-point Low-Toxin Program to reduce your risk. It explores the
cancer-curing electromedicine of Royal Raymond Rife and its
suppression by the medical establishment as well as Nobel laureate
Albert Szent-Gyorgi's follow-up discovery of Frequency Therapy.
Offering a window into the holistic future of medicine, the book
shows the body not simply as a biological machine to be patched and
repaired but as a living organism made up of cells dynamically
linked to their inner and outer environments.
This review of Pennsylvania's conservation efforts is the first
book to focus exclusively on the state's vertebrates of
concern.
The 133 species of reptiles, amphibians, birds, and mammals
discussed in this book are Pennsylvania's most vulnerable
terrestrial vertebrates. Each species is described in a full
account that details basic biology and includes photographs and
range maps. The accompanying narratives focus on conservation
priorities, research needs, and management recommendations.
Featuring information compiled from a broad array of sources and by
contributors who are recognized authorities on their respective
species, this volume is a model for wildlife conservation across
much of the northeastern United States.
A road map that reveals the Keystone State's most sensitive
species and what can be done to manage and conserve these important
natural resources, "Terrestrial Vertebrates of Pennsylvania" is a
valuable tool for wildlife managers, conservationists, and
naturalists.
