Kita loves walking on the dusty red road. Mama tells Kita not to make red dust clouds. Mama says if the red dust cloud grows, it will become a Dust Eater. Dust Eaters swallow little girls in one big bite. Kita doesn’t think that story is true. Mama just doesn’t want her to get her pretty dress all dirty with the red dust. One afternoon, Kita learns what Mama is talking about. Kita has a Dance with the Dust.
Meer as ’n honderd jaar nadat die boek Peter and Wendy deur J.M. Barrie in Engeland gepubliseer is, verskyn Marié Heese se opvolgstorie Peter Pan en Laurie by Protea Boekhuis in Suid-Afrika.
Sea Stories is a collection of stories from around the world, from “Hans and the hole” in Haarlem to the harvesters of seabird nests Adhi and Sinta in the East. But there are also many local stories about the Birkenhead Command, “The Flying Dutchman”, the Alibama, Wolraad Woltemade, the Hole-in-the-Wall at esiKhaleni where the water people come to fetch you, “The ghosts of Jutten Island”, “Adamastor and the Cape of Storms” and the shepherd from Macassar who found Sheik Yusuf’s grave amongst the dunes. Sea Stories also contains adaptations of The Little Mermaid, the tale of Princess Elisa and her eleven swan brothers, and the West Coast farmer Koos Malgas who stole his wife’s seal skin. And of course Hare tricks Salt Water Crocodile. The charming illustrations by Marjorie van Heerden will carry a little reader away to a magical world full of oceanic wonder.

More than a hundred years after the book Peter and Wendy by J.M. Barrie was published in England, Marié Heese’s sequel Peter Pan and Laurie is published by Protea Book House in South Africa, appearing simultaneously in English and Afrikaans, with charming illustrations by Marjorie van Heerden. Marié Heese has published various other children’s stories. In this tale, she keeps reasonably close to the atmosphere and narrative style of the original work. Of course Peter is just as he has always been, adventurous and free, but the girl he brings to the Neverland with him this time is rather different from the motherly Wendy. His new fairy companion is Jingle Belle. There are other Lost Boys and other enemies to withstand, especially the grotesque giant Half-chewed, leader of the Ghastlies, who has only half a head and who pickles the ears of his vanquished foes, hanging them on a string around his neck and chewing them. He seeks Peter’s ears for his collection. And there are dinosaurs who want to take over the island

The Little Library Life Skills Kit (along with the Literacy and Numeracy Kits) was initially developed to respond to a need for high quality, indigenous books for the younger members of our communities. After ten years successful use in schools, the kits have now been revised to meet the changing needs of learners, schools and the new education policies. The Life Skills Kit focuses on promoting life skills to learners of five to nine years of age, as stated in the National Curriculum Statement. Jake is a baby who lives in an unsafe house. The members of his family are busy and only notice that he is in danger when it's almost too late. At the end, instead of making their home safer, they put Jake in a playpen to keep him safe.
Up and down, to and fro, coo and crow baby, there you go. Up to the ceiling, down to the ground, backward and forward, round and round ... All babies love to be lifted, twirled and held in loving arms. Now a rhythmic poem by nineteenth century poet Anne Taylor makes a delightful board book perfect for baby and parent to share. Marjorie van Heerden has captured the energy and joy of this playful text in vivd pastel illustrations full of the soft, gentle motion of dance.
For babies who are responding to music and movement, here's a playful poem that has father and child dancing lovingly across the pages.

Nothing exciting ever happens in the town of Kraaipan. Especially not to Martjie, who lives on a farm nearby. But when Bertus Botha dares Martjie to climb on the Mafikeng train and peep inside one of the crates to see what’s inside, it’s the beginning of a huge adventure. Martjie ends up in one of the carriages – with a circus lion! Soon, she gets to know the circus owners, Mister and Madam Pagel, and the other performers at the famous Pagel’s Circus. Mister Pagel is the world’s strongest man and sticks his head inside the lion’s jaws during every performance. Madame Pagel drives to the bank with a lion sitting next to her in the car. And plain old Martjie knows her life will never be the same again. This exciting novel is loosely based on the history of the Pagel Circus, which was known in every South African city and town in the previous century. A wonderful story full of action, adventure ... and the timeless magic of circus life.
