Studios Inc., Paramount Pictures, or the "Star Trek" franchise. In
the 1980s and '90s, Star Trek rose from the ash heap of network
cancellation and soared to the peak of its popularity with a series
of blockbuster feature films and the smash sequel series Star Trek:
The Next Generation . Star Trek FAQ 2.0 picks up where the original
Star Trek FAQ left off, chronicling the historic comeback of the
"failed" series and its emergence as a pop culture touchstone. The
book provides accounts of the production of every Star Trek movie
(including creator Gene Roddenberry's struggle to retain control of
the franchise) and every episode of The Next Generation (and the
conflicts that roiled its writing staff). It also offers profiles
of the actors, directors, writers, producers, and technicians whose
excellence fueled the franchise's success, and explores often
overlooked aspects of the Star Trek phenomenon, including
unofficial, fan-made productions. Star Trek FAQ 2.0 represents the
final frontier of Trek scholarship.

Star Trek FAQ tells the complete story of Star Trek, from the
before the beginning (the books, films, and TV shows that inspired
producer Gene Roddenberry to create Star Trek ) until after the end
(when the show emerged as a cultural phenomenon in syndication),
and including dramatic behind-the-scenes stories (e.g., Leonard
Nimoy's struggle with alcoholism and actress Grace Lee Whitney's
controversial firing) often omitted from "authorized" histories of
the program. Along with in-depth looks at the pre- and post- Trek
careers of the show's iconic leads, Star Trek FAQ includes profiles
of guest stars and "redshirt" extras alike, as well as the many
writers, technicians, and artisans whose efforts enabled Star Trek
to take flight. The book also explores the show's unprecedented
resurgence in the 1970s with chapters devoted to early Star Trek
fiction, merchandising, and the short-lived animated series.
Combining a wealth of fascinating information about every facet of
the show's production with original analysis of Star Trek 's
enduring appeal and cultural influence, Star Trek FAQ goes where no
Star Trek book has gone before.
While you may think the old adage about oil and water being unable
to mix applies perfectly to the cinema of terror and the craft of
great acting, many a grease-painted scare and fluid performance
have been combined in the strange alchemy that is the horror film.
From the silent mastery of Lon Chaney's The Phantom of the Opera to
the cultured cannibalism of Anthony Hopkins in The Silence of the
Lambs, the genre has seen an impressive number of noteworthy
portrayals, far removed from the stereotypical leering monster and
terrified maiden. Part One of this work highlights the stars of
this screen style--those whose numerous roles and outstanding
performances made their names synonymous with horror cinema. Part
Two covers actors who, although not normally associated with the
genre, still contributed to its history. Part Three covers the
great actresses in horror films and highlights their acting
achievement. An appendix lists all the Academy Award nominations
and winners in the horror genre.
The modern world portrays Jesus in many ways for many reasons. Some
are well-intentioned but misguided, others are aberrations, still
others have some but not all the essential keys. In order to see
and understand the real Jesus and what the Gospels say about him,
we have to see him in his first-century context-and work out from
there. Here is a portrait of Jesus that in some ways will affirm
what traditional Christianity has always understood about
him...and, in other ways, upend it altogether. Award-winning author
Mark Clark delves into the person and work of Jesus of Nazareth:
his parables and miracles, his controversial challenge of
discipleship and obedience, his seemingly insane claim to be God,
and what his death and resurrection (if they did happen) actually
mean. Mark is unafraid to tackle questions such as: What would
first-century Jews have immediately recognized about Jesus that
modern Christians often miss? What do the Gospels accomplish, and
can we trust them? Is there a problem with science and Jesus'
miracles? What are the barriers stopping people from following him?
And what is Christianity in light of an accurate portrayal of the
object of its faith? The Problem of Jesus engages with ideas from
all realms of study: from Malcolm Gladwell and Jordan Peterson to
historians, scientists, and philosophers; from N.T. Wright to C.S.
Lewis; from Star Wars to Pretty Woman-all unite to form a
breathtaking and accurate portrait of Jesus, the man, the message,
and the mission, who forever altered the course of human history.
"As a former atheist, I would call this book philosophical
dynamite...The Problem of Jesus will take your thinking about
Jesus-and your relationship with him-to whole new levels." -Pastor
and author, Ray Johnston.
The Problem of God explores answers to the most difficult questions
raised against Christianity. A skeptic who became a Christian and
then a pastor, author Mark Clark grew up in an atheistic home.
After his father's death, he began a skeptical search for truth
through the fields of science, philosophy, and history, eventually
finding answers in the last place he expected: Christianity. In a
winsome, persuasive, and humble voice, The Problem of God responds
to the top ten interrogations people bring against God, and
Christianity, including: Does God even exist in the first place?
What do we do with Christianity's violent history? Is Jesus just
another myth? Can the Bible be trusted? Why should we believe in
Hell anymore today? Each chapter answers the specific challenge
using a mix of theology, philosophy, and science. Filled with
compelling stories and anecdotes, The Problem of God presents an
organized and easy-to-understand range of apologetics, focused on
both convincing the skeptic and informing the Christian. The book
concluding with Christianity's most audacious assertion: how should
we respond to Jesus' claim that he is God and the only way to
salvation.
In 2008 Mark Clarke embarked on a journey to visit the highest
point in each of the eighty-five historic counties in Great
Britain. Over the course of four years, he walked over 500 miles
and climbed over 100,000 feet, sampling all that is great about
Britain along the way. Mark's journey took in the mountainous
summits of Scotland and Wales (Ben Nevis, the county top of
Inverness-shire, and Snowdon, the county top of Caernarfonshire) as
well as dozens of less visited high points, such as the
unfortunately named Boring Field in Huntingdonshire. High Point is
Mark's account of his experiences and the challenges he faced in
his travels - including suffering a broken leg on a remote hillside
in Scotland while walking alone. It is rich with historical
information and observations about Britain's counties and serves as
an indispensable guide to the historic and modern counties of Great
Britain and their highest points. Each county has its own gazetteer
section with information about the county, the county top, Mark's
ascent and local information. High point walk directions are
accompanied by an Ordnance Survey map to help you plan your own
High Point adventure.

INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA: CONNECTING CONCEPTS THROUGH APPLICATIONS, 2nd
Edition, shows you how to apply traditional mathematical skills in
real-world situations. With an emphasis on skill building and
applications, concepts are connected to the real world, helping you
master the material and enhance your problem-solving skills. The
authors have developed several techniques to make the concepts as
vivid as possible for you. First, they integrated applications to
show you why and how math applies to our lives. Second, the authors
use "Concept Investigations" activities to explore patterns and
relationships in the concepts studied. Third, they emphasize the
tools needed for strong algebra skills with the Equation Solving
Toolkit, Expression Simplifying Toolkit, Factoring Toolkit, and
Modeling Toolkit. Fourth, the text underscores the importance of
graphs and graphing by having you learn graphing by hand, while
technology is used to display real-life data problems.
Show students how to apply traditional mathematical skills in
real-world contexts with BEGINNING ALGEBRA: CONNECTING CONCEPTS
THROUGH APPLICATIONS, 2nd Edition. Concepts become real and vivid
as the authors draw from real data to show students why and how to
apply math. Through conceptual explorations, skill building and
applications, this text's approach helps students master concepts,
and develop problem solving and communication skills. The authors
integrate algebraic techniques, graphing, the use of data in
tables, and writing sentences to communicate solutions to
application problems. Problems that build strong algebra skills
support applications while completing models by hand helps students
focus on the characteristics of each function type. Accompanied by
WebAssign, students will be able to enhance their learning
experience while building confidence.
Stephen Langton, following in the footsteps of Peter Lombard,
remade not only medieval theology but also the medieval schools by
redoing Jerome's famous prologues to the Latin Bible. An Englishman
who went as a lad from near Lincoln to Paris and then returned to
England as Archbishop of Canterbury after nearly half a century of
learning and teaching, Langton connected Paris, its schools and
university, to English schools and universities in ways never
before suspected by scholars. It turns out that Langton was not
only a great Church leader and diplomat but was arguably the
leading English intellectual of his generation, the man at the
centre of the greatest developments of his age, from the securing
the of Magna Carta to the founding of the University of Paris.
