Wado Ryu Karate/Jujutsu is the third book by master martial arts instructor, Mark Edward Cody. This volume explores the origins, techniques and kata of one of Japan's most traditional martial arts. This is the first book to examine all seventeen kata of the system and is one of the few existing texts written by a native English speaker. Unlike other works on the subject, kata movement is explained in precise detail. The reader is given clear, systematic instruction in the direction, execution and technique of kata movement. Cody chronicles the traditions of Wado Ryu in light of the necessity for innovation and combat effectiveness in the propagation and evolution of ancient fighting systems. Wado Ryu Karate/Jujutsu embodies the ancient martial principle to "Absorb that which is useful." Hironori Ohtsuka created the Wado system by blending the best aspects of Shotokan Karate with Shindo Yoshin Ryu Jujutsu. Following the Founder's example, Cody draws upon his knowledge of Filipino Combat Systems and other arts in his analysis of this Traditional Japanese Fighting Art.
Once upon a time in the far off Kingdom of Arbeiterklasse or "the Working class"" resides a small principality called the Duchy of Miser which is mercilessly ruled by a greedy and highly despicable duke, Herzog Otto the Ruthless. On one fine autumn morning there once lived an old wood gatherer named Hans Holtzmann in the forest countryside near the small hamlet of Vertvoll. Hans awoke from his peaceful night's slumber so to start off his day by fetching the kindling wood and sell it to the bakers when he suddenly noticed that he was walking backwards... This spiritually-based fairy tale depicts all the mystical styles that even the Grimm Brother's could have ever dreamt up in their time...
How to harness the power of storytelling in your communications at work. Whether you're standing up in front of a crowd at a conference or chatting with a colleague on Zoom, storytelling is the most effective way to get your point across. It works in 90 second Superbowl TV spots, it works in 10 second social media formats, and it works in that email you have to fire off in 5 seconds flat. Why? The short answer is that people don't make decisions based on logic. They make decisions based on emotions. To persuade, influence and inspire, you need to make an emotional connection. And storytelling is the best way of doing that. Journalist-turned-business coach Mark Edwards has developed his own methodology - SUPERB - for telling compelling stories at work. From the classic Hero's Journey to why we all need to Save a Cat, Best Story Wins shows how storytelling will make better communicators of us all.
From German unification in 1871 through the early 1960s, confessional tensions between Catholics and Protestants were a source of deep division in German society. Engaging this period of historic strife, Germany and the Confessional Divide focuses on three traumatic episodes: the Kulturkampf waged against the Catholic Church in the 1870s, the collapse of the Hohenzollern monarchy and state-supported Protestantism after World War I, and the Nazi persecution of the churches. It argues that memories of these traumatic experiences regularly reignited confessional tensions. Only as German society became increasingly secular did these memories fade and tensions ease.

..".You thought that we actually take the rules seriously? No way, not in the world of fear and compromise that we rattle around in. ... Rules and principals are useful to us, just like great teeth, a pretty face and a mouth full of promises are useful to a politician... Lawyers are concerned with results, judges are concerned with clearing cases from their dockets, and cities are concerned with image. Principles like what's right and what's wrong often take a back seat to those priorities. Alex Zouzoulas, Courtroom Confidential
