Reprinted for the first time, the world’s smallest comic
books—originally printed in 1966 and now enlarged to a more
readable size—in a seven-book collectable boxed set  In
1966, Marvel printed what the Guinness Book of World Records
certified as the world’s smallest comic books. Smaller than a
postage stamp, and sold in gumball machines across the country,
these six books told the quirky origin stories of Marvel’s most
beloved characters at that time: the Amazing Spider-Man, the
Incredible Hulk, the Mighty Thor, Captain America, Sergeant Nick
Fury, and Millie the Model. Marvel Comics Mini Books reproduces
facsimile editions of all six books in one affordable box
set—along with a seventh book written by Mark Evanier that
details the history and creation of these rare, vintage
collectables.
Jack Kirby created or co-created some of comic books' most popular
super heroes, including Captain America, The X-Men, The Hulk, The
Fantastic Four, The Mighty Thor, Darkseid, and The New Gods. More
significantly, he created much of the visual language for fantasy
and adventure comics. There were comics before Kirby, but for the
most part their page layout, graphics, and visual dynamic aped what
was being done in syndicated newspaper strips. Almost everything
that was different about comic books began in the 1940s on the
drawing table of Jack Kirby. This is his story by one who knew him
well-Mark Evanier. First issued in 2008, Kirby: King of Comics was
the first overview of the legendary comic book creator's career. It
is now available in a smaller, more affordable package, revised and
expanded for Kirby's centennial.
A seal who can't balance? An elephant who always forgets? A green
cow who walks on her front feet? These are just some of the wacky
characters from the unique mind of Daws Butler, the man who voiced
most of the classic Hanna-Barbera characters--Yogi Bear,
Huckleberry Hound, Quick Draw McGraw and Snagglepuss, to name a
few. Uncle Dunkle and Donnie is a collection of imaginative,
never-before-released cartoon scripts by Butler, who also worked on
the classic 1960s Jay Ward "Fractured Fairy Tales" and "Aesop and
Sons" animated cartoons. The book was edited, co-written and
illustrated (in retro Hanna-Barbera style) by Butler protg Joe
Bevilacqua, who has also recorded an audio "cartoon" book of UNCLE
DUNKLE AND DONNIE, doing all the voices himself! What the animation
industry is saying about UNCLE DUNKLE AND DONNIE: "It all started
with Daws Butler--actor, writer, teacher--writing UNCLE DUNKLE AND
DONNIE children's stories with exquisite sophisticated humor but
always resonating with gentle and subtle lessons in morality. Then
came Joe Bevilacqua--also actor, writer and producer--vocally
bringing to life all of the charming characters in the Daws Butler
book. Reading and listening to UNCLE DUNKLE AND DONNIE is a
delightful experience that you and your family can and will enjoy!"
- June Foray, legendary voice actress (Rocky the Flying Squirrel,
Witch Hazel, Granny) "Any cartoon fan can recognize Daws Butler's
multitude of voices, but few know of his writing. Butler, a
purveyor of witty wordplay and twisty tales, will surprise and
amuse readers. These stories now come to life as told by the
hilarious Joe Bevilacqua, man of 97 voices!" - Linda Simensky
(Senior Director of Programming for PBS Kids)
"Like millions of people, I've been listening to June Foray for
most of my life. I remember when I first encountered Rocky and
Bullwinkle in their first season on TV, and falling under the spell
of Jay Ward's sharply-written, wonderfully performed cartoons. What
I can't remember is when I learned that the same woman who provided
the voice of Rocky also acted as Natasha, Nell, and a host of other
characters on the series, including the gravely-voiced fairy
godmother who was patterned after character actress Marjorie Main.
But as a diehard cartoon fan, it didn't take me long to memorize
the names of the actors in the show's credits (fleeting though they
were). "Around the same time I became enamored of Stan Freberg's
comedy records, including such hit singles as "St. George and the
Dragonet" and classic albums like Stan Freberg Presents the United
States of America. The rich, colorful voices on those records
became permanently ingrained in my consciousness, and in time I
connected the dots and realized that June, Paul Frees, and Daws
Butler were the same people I heard on so many cartoon
soundtracks." - Leonard Maltin, from his Foreword

In cooperation with DC Comics, TwoMorrows compiles a tempestuous
trio of never-seen 1970s Kirby projects! These are the final
complete, unpublished Jack Kirby stories in existence, presented
here for the first time! Included are: Two unused Dingbats of
Danger Street tales (Kirby's final Kid Gang group, inked by Mike
Royer and D. Bruce Berry, and newly colored for this book)!
True-Life Divorce, the abandoned newsstand magazine that was too
hot for its time (reproduced from Jack's pencil art-and as a bonus,
we've commissioned Mike Royer to ink one of the stories)! And Soul
Love, the unseen '70s romance book so funky, even a jive turkey
will dig the unretouched inks by Vince Colletta and Tony DeZuniga.
PLUS: There's Kirby historian John Morrow's in-depth examination of
why these projects got left back, concept art and uninked pencils
from Dingbats, and a Foreword by '70s Kirby assistant Mark Evanier!
The gods have returned! Created by artist and writer Jack Kirby in
1971, the New Gods combined Kirby s love for science fiction with
mythic tales of good versus evil, paving the way for what would
become his epic Fourth World saga. More than a decade later, writer
Mark Evanier (Blackhawk, The House of Mystery) and artist Paris
Cullins (Blue Devil) revisited the worlds of New Genesis and
Apokolips, bringing back fan-favorite characters such as Orion,
Lightray, Metron, Kalibak, and the nefarious Darkseid. Picking up
after the events of the Cosmic Odyssey, the ongoing war between the
New Gods comes to Earth yet again as Darkseid continues his
single-minded pursuit of the Anti-Life Equation and an even greater
power the Source itself! Fortunately, Orion and his allies are
never far behind, but with each battle Orion is put in greater
danger of succumbing to the violent urges of his bloodline. Torn
between his idealistic upbringing and his dark birthright, Orion
ventures deep into the bowels of Apokolips, seeking the one person
who might be able to pacify his inner turmoil his mother! Will
Orion finally gain the closure he seeks, or will darkness consume
him? New Gods Book One: Bloodlines carries on the spirit of Kirby s
space opera for a brand-new era! Collects New Gods #1-14.
