Into the World: The Movement of Patocka's Phenomenology (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2019): Martin Ritter Into the World: The Movement of Patocka's Phenomenology (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2019)
Martin Ritter
R2,660 Discovery Miles 26 600 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Critically evaluating and synthesizing all the previous research on the phenomenology of Czech philosopher Jan Patocka, the book brings a new voice into contemporary philosophical discussions. It elucidates the development of Patocka's phenomenology and offers a critical appropriation of his work by connecting it with non-phenomenological approaches. The first half of the book offers a succinct, and systematizing, overview of Patocka's phenomenology throughout its development to help readers appreciate the motives behind and grounds for its transformations. The second half systematically explicates, critically examines and creatively develops Patocka's concept of the movement of existence as the most promising part of his asubjective phenomenology. The book appeals to new readers of Patocka as well as his scholars, and to students and researchers of contemporary philosophy concerned with topics such as embodiment, personal identity, intersubjectivity, sociality, or historicity. By re-assessing Patocka's philosophy of history and his civilizational analysis, it also helps to better articulate the question of the place of Europe in the post-European world.

The Brecht Yearbook / Das Brecht-Jahrbuch 42 - Recycling Brecht (Paperback): Tom Kuhn, David Barnett, Theodore F. Rippey The Brecht Yearbook / Das Brecht-Jahrbuch 42 - Recycling Brecht (Paperback)
Tom Kuhn, David Barnett, Theodore F. Rippey; Contributions by Alice Koubova, Amal Allana, …
R1,906 Discovery Miles 19 060 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The leading publication on Brecht, his work, and topics of interest to him; this annual volume documents the International Brecht Society's 2016 symposium, "Recycling Brecht." Published for the International Brecht Society by Camden House, the Brecht Yearbook is the central scholarly forum for discussion of Brecht's life and work and of topics of particular interest to him, especially the politics of literature and of theater in a global context. It includes a wide variety of perspectives and approaches, and, like Brecht himself, is committed to the concept of the use value of literature, theater, and theory. Volume42 features a selection of the papers given and protocols of the events held at the International Brecht Society's "Recycling Brecht" symposium at St. Hugh's College, Oxford, in June 2016. The theme of recycling is understood bothas a description of Brecht's own creative practice and as an activity applied to his works by others. The volume includes keynote papers by Hans-Thies Lehmann and Amal Allana on Brecht's reception of Antigone and on the reception and recycling of Brecht in India, respectively. Other papers are on a wide range of topics, from Brecht's own "recycling" of Shakespeare and others, through the reception of his own works in a range of contexts and by later writers, to contemporary works that may be understood as post-Brechtian. The final section, introduced by an extended interview with American playwright Tony Kushner, documents additional creative responses to the theme. Volume co-editors Tom Kuhn and David Barnett are, respectively, Professor of Twentieth-Century German Literature at the University of Oxford and Professor of Theatre at the University of York. Managing Editor Theodore F. Rippey is Associate Professor of German at Bowling Green State University.

English summary: For the first time since the publication of the Confessio Augustana in 1930 this volume presents an edited edition of the Confessionals of the Protestant Lutheran Church. It is based on new sources and the results of new theological and historical research. The texts are presented parallel in Early Modern High German and in the Latin original. The critical apparatus reproduces the various readings, and the commentary provides important information for our understanding of both the historical and theological background.
