Steve Coogan's legendary chat show host and broadcaster finally
receives the big screen treatment in this comedy directed by Declan
Lowney. Occupying a career stasis-defining role as a mid-morning DJ
on North Norfolk Digital Radio, Alan Partridge (Coogan)'s hopes for
one last shot at the big time suffer a severe setback when it
emerges that his employers have been taken over by a giant media
conglomerate. Alan soon finds himself back in the spotlight,
however, when newly-sacked fellow DJ Pat Farrell (Colm Meaney)
returns to the studio with a shotgun and begins taking hostages.
Called in by the police to act as a hostage negotiator, can
Britain's most famous Toblerone addict turn the tables and finally
save the day?
Theoretical debate has declared the author obsolete. In practice,
however, certain usages of the author concept are repeatedly
demonstrated as being legitimate. This discrepancy suggests that
theoretical reflection on the author fails to do justice to central
forms of the scholarly approach to literature. The articles in this
volume take both systematic and historical perspectives on this
controversial term in an attempt to accurately reconstruct the
history of the concept and to analyze the problem constellations
generated by it in practice. The discussion also extends to
non-literary media such as film, music, art, and hypertexts.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 7th
Conference of the Workgroup Human-Computer Interaction and
Usability Engineering of the Austrian Computer Society, USAB 2011,
in Graz, Austria, in November 2011.
The 18 revised full papers together with 29 revised short papers
and 2 posters presented were carefully reviewed and selected from
103 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on
cognitive approaches to clinical data management for decision
support, human-computer interaction and knowledge discovery in
databases (hci-kdd), information usability and clinical workflows,
education and patient empowerment, patient empowerment and health
services, information visualization, knowledge & analytics,
information usability and accessibility, governmental health
services & clinical routine, information retrieval and
knowledge discovery, decision making support & technology
acceptance, information retrieval, privacy & clinical routine,
usability and accessibility methodologies, information usability
and knowledge discovery, human-centred computing, and biomedical
informatics in health professional education.
The volume Regeln der Bedeutung ('Rules of meaning') marks the
launch of REVISIONEN, a projected series of some eight volumes on
basic concepts of literary theory. The series aims to reflect on
central concepts of literary studies which have become questionable
or problematic in the course of recent debates and to open up new
perspectives on them in order to make them available for research
in a new manner. Such concepts include, for example, 'meaning',
'literature', 'interpretation'. The series takes an
interdisciplinary approach, drawing not only on literary theory but
also on art history, music, philosophy, linguistics, and
psychology.

This book summarizes work done by the authors under the Esprit Tool
Use project (1985-1990), at GMD in Karlsruhe and at Berlin
University of Technology. It provides a comprehensive description
of the generic development language Deva designed by the authors.
Much of the research reported in this monograph is inspired by the
work of Michel Sintzoff on formal program development; he
contributed an enlightening Foreword. Deva is essentially a typed
functional language with certain deduction rules. The difference
with ordinary languages is, of course, the application domain: the
types serve here to express propositions such as specifications or
programs, rather than just data classes. Its practical
applicability was tested on several non-trivial case studies. The
whole book is written using the DVWEB system, a WEB for Deva,
beeing implemented at the Berlin University of Technology.
This monograph is concerned with the analysis and numerical
solution of a stochastic inverse anomaly detection problem in
electrical impedance tomography (EIT). Martin Simon studies the
problem of detecting a parameterized anomaly in an isotropic,
stationary and ergodic conductivity random field whose realizations
are rapidly oscillating. For this purpose, he derives Feynman-Kac
formulae to rigorously justify stochastic homogenization in the
case of the underlying stochastic boundary value problem. The
author combines techniques from the theory of partial differential
equations and functional analysis with probabilistic ideas, paving
the way to new mathematical theorems which may be fruitfully used
in the treatment of the problem at hand. Moreover, the author
proposes an efficient numerical method in the framework of Bayesian
inversion for the practical solution of the stochastic inverse
anomaly detection problem.
Years of experience have gone into a new walking guide to the Downs
- a book which fills its author with confidence. Of the 42 walks,
21 are within the West Sussex area, the area to the north of
Chichester being a particular favourite of Martin's. Ten years of
walking the Downs has gone into this book. Every walk has an
element of wow! factor, many using paths that don't appear in other
guides. It really is the Rolls Royce of South Downs walking. --West
Sussex Gazette. Book Description A staggeringly beautiful and
varied landscape, changing with the seasons, the South Downs offers
formidable scarp slopes, towering cliffs, flowing contours, river
valleys, and a wealth of woodland. Rich in history: prehistoric
burial mounds, Iron Age hill forts, ancient tucked away churches,
attractive villages and inns, all set in a backdrop of rolling
undulating hills. With challenging climbs, the rewards are, at
times, jaw-dropping! Nearly 2000 miles of footpaths and bridleways
crisscross the Downs, as well as new paths across access land and
nature reserves, stretching the 80 miles from Eastbourne to
Winchester. On many of the walks you may hardly see a soul, for
despite the proximity of large populations, getting away from it
all is a welcome reality. All 42 walking routes include: walking
route summary, ratings for Effort Time Distance Ascents/Descents
Refreshments and Vertigo risk, fully detailed walk description
including frequent timings to aid navigation and check your
progress, GPS waypoints at every key point on every route, full
colour 1:40,000 scale Ordnance Survey licenced mapping for each
route, short walk and stroll alternatives.
This is the latest edition - fully revised and updated - of the
standard textbook on aerodynamic theory, as applied to model
flight. Everything is explained in a concise and practical form for
those enthusiasts who appreciate that a better understanding of
model behaviour is the sure path to greater success and enjoyment,
whether just for fun or in competition. The revisions for this new
edition reflect the significant developments in model aircraft
during the last few years, and include brand new data: - The
chapter on aerofoils has been rewritten to take account of the vast
amount of testing carried out recently in the USA by the University
of Illinois. - A brand new chapter explains the latest research
into the flight of birds and insects and how it is applied to small
drones and model-sized surveillance aircraft. - Older wind tunnel
test reports all replaced with the latest trials and measurements.
