From New York City to historic St. Augustine, Floirda, the hunt
begins. The world-renowned Casa Monica Hotel in St. Augustine,
Florida, plays host to both national and international celebrities.
But having ten beautiful women who happen to be psychotherapists
reserve the entire top floor is unique, especially since they are
all psychics. The women are there to work and to play. There are,
however, no plans for murder, but murder will stalk the halls of
the hotel and the streets of the city, turning its gaze on the
ladies when least expected.
After the narrator of Let's Talk finds out she can communicate
telepathically with her German Shepherds and two cats, we follow
their further adventures in learning about the world around them.
In Ta Da their exploits - at home, on the water, and at the beach -
have them rescuing birds, deer, and babies. They escape from
gators, coyotes, and hunters with murderous intent. All these
activities occur in an everyday sort of way - that is, in a way
that could happen to anyone or any creature. They also make new
friends and share adventures with then, from catching thieves,
saving a dog from the Intracoastal, and going on their first plane
ride.
Dr. Paul finds herself, as the new County Commissioner from
District 4, overwhelmed with work, left undone by the past
Commission. Two of the Commissioners take great delight in loading
her up with a sign ordinance committee. A job two past
Commissioners couldn't cope with, an albatross no politician wanted
hung on them. She also acquired a donation of land to build Davis
Park, then finds the donors now want to build an enormous
development next to it, called Nocatee. With a wry sense of humor,
she provides and inside view of commission maneuvers. The slipping
and sliding to fulfill election promises to keep the those with
deep pockets happy. One of these money people wants a landing site
at his home in the western part of the county for his connivence in
his travels. Two of the commissioners grease the skids for him and
it shoots thru approval with ease. This landing site soon turns out
to be more than a mere connivence rather a major landing site for
drugs. Paul's friend Jeffery Stone gets involved in a multi-agency
bust of these dealers. Paul inadvertently finds herself kidnapped
by two workers of this cartel. A harrowing chase on the St. John's
River in the middle of the night ensues.
She Said What? by Dr. Mary F. Kohnke Dr. Paul, a New York
University professor, retires to her home on the Intracoastal
Waterway in Palm Valley, near Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Her
community association is attempting to keep the developers of a
large golf community from locating a sewage plant near their homes.
Dr. Paul threatens to lead the community to picket on national
television at the Tournament Players Championship. The developer's
lawyer, attempting to stop this action, threatens her. Later the
dead body of her maid is found in the waterway, tied to her dock.
Was the murder a case of mistaken identity, a warning, or something
else? The plot revolves around the investigation of the death of
the maid, drug runners, and a chase in the Intracoastal marshes.
There is a bit on the history of the area of Ponte Vedra, a glimpse
of St. Augustine and St. Johns County, Florida, as well as fishing
on the Intracoastal Waterway. Dr. Paul is an independent woman of
means. She does not go looking for trouble but finds it difficult
to back down when it appears on her doorstep. There is a passing
resemblance to the author.
The residents of Palm Valley/Ponte Vedra discover that the city of
Jacksonville is planning to locate a landfill just west of them
across the Intracoastal Waterway. The thought of the odor, wafting
over them from the west in the heat of the summer, has sent the
entire community into shock and action. Dr. Paul, as the president
of the Palm Valley community center and the incoming Chairman of
the St. Johns County Civic Roundtable, is a major figure in the
fight to take on the City of Jacksonville. She acts to stir up the
whole County against the landfill. A young visiting
environmentalist and biologist agreed to help the people look for
possible endangered species on the site, where he is found
murdered. He is connected to Paul's mysterious friends Steel and
Stone, who fly in to help in the investigation. The suspects range
from the trash haulers, to the Jacksonville city officials, to even
the local people fighting the landfill. The action is fast and the
ending surprising.
