I moved into a nursing home after my sister, Martha had died. I was
living alone. I have FSH muscular dystrophy that isn't fatal. The
disability itself requires a live in a care giver, whom I could not
afford. The other residents enjoy reading my poems so I decided to
write more and make them into a book. I believe there is a "book"
in each of us. We all have life stories to tell, but residents of
nursing homes seem to be forgotten numbers in our society. We all
need love, company and laughter in our lives. This is a place to
live and be cared for. While I am glad to have a home, improvement
is needed in its image. If my poems can have help improve this
image, then I will have succeeded.
This book is about the importance of the couple relationship in the
broadest terms. It draws on clinical researches into the inner
lived world of adult couples, empirical developmental research into
children and parenting, as well as the legal setting when
relationships break down. It aims to bridge the inner and outer
worlds, showing how our most intimate relationships have vital
importance at all levels, from the individual and the family, to
the social setting - and explores the implications for practice and
policy. Above all, it is a book about applications of clinical
thinking linked with research knowledge, as tools for front line
workers and policy makers alike. It draws on the tradition of
applied clinical thinking and research of the Tavistock Centre for
Couple Relationships, linking current thinking with the history of
ideas in each area it covers, as well as considering implications
for the future.
A Couple State of Mind is a much anticipated book aimed at an
international audience of practitioners, students and teachers of
psychoanalytic couple therapy, describes the Tavistock
Relationships model of couple psychoanalytic psychotherapy, drawing
on both historical and contemporary ideas, including the author's
own theoretical contributions. The book references contemporary
influences of other psychoanalytic approaches to couples,
particularly from an international perspective. It will be
invaluable for all students learning about psychoanalytic work with
couples for other psychoanalytic practitioners interested in this
field.
It has been held that when economic policy makers use economic
models, there is a one way flow of information from the models to
policy analysis. This text challenges this assumption, recognizing
that in practice the requirements and questions of policy makers
play an important role in the development and revision of those
very models. Written by highly-placed practitioners and academic
economists, it provides a picture of how modellers and policy
makers interact with depth, insight and conviction. It offers
international case studies of particular interactions between
models and policy making, exploring questions such as: how does
interaction work? What roles do different professional groups play
in interaction? What strategies make the use of models in policy
preparation successful? What insights can sociologists and
historians give on the interaction between models and policy
makers?
This collection, written by highly-placed practitioners and academic economists, provides a picture of how economic modellers and policy makers interact. The book provides international case studies of particular interactions between models and policy making, and argues that the flow of information is two-way. eBook available with sample pages: 0203130499
