Mezzanine is the title of the third full-length album from Bristol-based trip-hop innovators Massive Attack. Released in 1998, it marked the moment when the dark undercurrents which had always been present in the collective's music came to the fore. Overall, the album was highly acclaimed by many critics. Discordant rock guitars are featured on several tracks, allegedly against the wishes of founding member Andrew Vowles (aka Mushroom), who left the band shortly after the album's release, citing creative differences.
"Protection" is 1995 single which came in two parts, in slip board jackets which fit in a unique cardboard case. The song is a collaboration between Massive Attack and Everything but the Girl singer Tracey Thorn, that appeared on Massive Attack's album Protection + 5xBonus on CD and 12" in 1994. 100th Window is the fourth studio album from Massive Attack, released in February 2003. It contains 10 tracks, including a hidden instrumental track (LP4). It was written and produced by Robert Del Naja and Neil Davidge, with three tracks co-written with Sinead O'Connor (What Your Soul Sings, Special Cases and A Prayer for England), who also took on lead vocals on the three tracks. Robert Del Naja was otherwise main vocalist, with Horace Andy taking lead vocals on two tracks (Everywhen and Name Taken). Damon Albarn performed backing vocals on Small Time Shot Away.
