This volume includes 12 character pieces-one for every month of the year-which creates the musical atmosphere, alluded to by their respective titles. Expressive and thoughtful, they are effective performance pieces for intermediate to moderately advanced pianists. The editor has maintained the works in their original form and indicated tempo, dynamics, phrasing and fingering where necessary. Beautifully engraved, the music is widely spaced for easy reading.
Carnaval is characteristic of Schumann's highly individual youthful romanticism and requires musical maturity for performance. Written for advanced pianists, it is a series of glimpses enveloped in the atmosphere of a masked ball with titles such as "Arlequin," "Papillons," "Sphinxes," "Coquette" and so on. Most of the 23 pieces are based on the notes A-S-C-H, arranged in a succession of melodic and rhythm patterns ("s" is German for E-flat, "h" is German for B-natural). Asch was a Bohemian town where Schumann had a girlfriend. 60 pages. Included is an outstanding CD recording from the Naxos label.
This set of six pieces is based on folk song melodies and dance forms from Transylvania which was annexed to Romania in 1920. The contrasting melodies were originally for violin or shepherd's flute, but the unusual harmonies are original with Bart?k. The performance time for the complete set of dances is approximately 4 minutes, 15 seconds.
The third concert etude in D-flat major from Liszt's Trois etudes de concert will challenge advanced pianists with its constant hand-crossings and varying number of cascading notes per measure in the accompaniment. A lovely pentatonic melody is embedded in the rolling arpeggio-like patterns, frequently played by alternating hands throughout the piece. Keeping this cantando melodic line distinct and phrased while transparently maintaining the flowing accompaniment is the primary challenge of this masterwork. This edition is based on Musikalische Werke herausgegeben von der Franz Liszt-Stifung, Series II, edited by Ferruccio Busoni.
inch....this work is likely to become a standart work very quickly and is to be recommended to all schools where recorder studies are undertaken inch.
