Influenced by the elegant 18th-century harpsichord works of Couperin, Rameau and Scarlatti, Le Tombeau de Couperin consists of "Prelude," "Forlane," "Menuet," and "Rigaudon." The uninterrupted eight waltzes of Valses Nobles et Sentimentales, orchestrated in 1912 to serve as music for a ballet, abound with lilting rhythms and unexpected harmonic subtleties. This volume of two inspired works will be valued additions to the libraries of musicians, music lovers, and admirers of Ravel.

Rolando Villazón and baritone Thomas Hampson sing works by Verdi
and Wagner with Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducting the
Symphonieorchester and Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks. Music by
Jules Massenet and Maurice Ravel is also featured.
A boxed collection featuring historical performances by three of
the Boston Symphony Orchestra's eminent music directors, Charles
Munch, Erich Leinsdorf and William Steinberg. Stretching from 1958
to 1970, the recordings feature works by amongst others Debussy,
Ravel, Mozart, Schubert, Tchaikovsky and Haydn.
Pierre Boulez conducts the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and
pianist Daniel Barenboim in this opening concert from the Salzburg
Festival of 2008. Featured works include Ravel's 'Valses nobles et
sentimentales', Bartok's 'Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No.1'
and Stravinsky's 'Firebird Suite'.
Simon Rattle leads the London Symphony Orchestra in performances by
Ravel, Henri Dutilleux and Maurice Delage. The works performed
include 'Daphnis & Chloé Suite 2', 'Le Tombeau de Couperin',
'L'Arbre des Songes', 'Métaboles' and 'Quatre Poèmes Hindous'.
Franz Welser-Möst conducts the Wiener Philharmoniker in this live
performance commemorating the centenary of the assassination of
Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo.
