This book reviews the most powerful attack strategies and potential defense mechanisms, always approaching the interplay between the Fusion Center and the Byzantines from a game-theoretic perspective. For each of the settings considered, the equilibria of the game and the corresponding payoffs are derived, shedding new light on the achievable performance level and the impact that the presence of the Byzantines has on the accuracy of decisions made by the Fusion Center. Accordingly, the book offers a simple yet effective introduction to the emerging field of adversarial information fusion, providing a wealth of intuitive take-home lessons for practitioners interested in applying the most basic notions to the design of practical systems, while at the same time introducing researchers and other readers to the mathematical details behind the theory.

The rapid growth of the Internet has fueled the demand for enhanced watermarking and data hiding technologies and has stimulated research into new ways to implement watermarking systems in the real world. This book presents the fundamental principles of watermarking system design and discusses state-of-the-art technologies in information concealment and recovery. It highlights the requirements and challenges of applications in security, image/video indexing, hidden communications, image captioning, and transmission error recovery and concealment. It explains the foundations of digital watermarking technologies, and offers an understanding of new approaches and applications, and lays the groundwork for future developments in the field.

th The 8 International Workshop on Digital Watermarking (IWDW 2009) was hosted by the University of Surrey, Guildford, Surrey, UK, during August 24 26, 2009.As with previous workshops, IWDW 2009 aimed to providea balanced program covering the latest state-of-the-art theoretical and practical devel- ments in digital watermarking, steganography and steganalysis, and the eme- ing area of image forensics. The selection of the program was a challenging task for the Technical Programme Committee members and reviewers, who ensured the highest quality and reputation of the workshop. From around 50 submissions received from authors in 14 countries, the c- mittee selected 26 regular papers (22 oral and 4 poster presentations). In - dition to the contributed papers, the workshop featured three keynote lectures on watermarking, cryptography and forensics kindly delivered by internati- ally renowned experts, Ingemar Cox, Fred Piper and Ed Delp, respectively. The regular papers and keynote lectures can be found in this proceedings volume. It is our pleasure to present in this volume the proceedings of the 7th Inter- tional Workshopon InformationHiding (IH 2005), held in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, during June 6-8, 2005. The workshop was organized by the Department of Computer Science and Multimedia, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). Continuing the tradition of previous workshops, we sought a balanced p- gram, containing talks on various aspects of data hiding, anonymous commu- cation, steganalysis, and watermarking.Although the protection of digital int- lectual property has up to now motivated most of our research, there are many other upcoming ?elds of application. We were delighted to see that this year's workshop presented numerous new and unconventional approaches to infor- tion hiding. The selection of the program was a very challenging task. In total, we - ceived 90 submissions from 21 countries. At this point we want to thank all authors who submitted their latest work to IH 2005-and thus assured that the Information Hiding Workshop continues to be the top forum of our community.

We are delighted to welcome the attendees of the Fourth International Wo- shop on Digital Watermarking (IWDW). Watermarking continues to generate strong academic interest. Commercialization of the technology is proceeding at a steadypace. We haveseen watermarkingadoptedfor DVD audio.Fingerpri- ing technology was successfully used to determine the source of pirated video material. Furthermore, a number of companies are using watermarking as an enabling technology for broadcast monitoring services. Watermarking of digital cinema contentis anticipated. Future applications may also come from areas- related to digital rights management. For example, the use of watermarking to enhance legacy broadcast and communication systems is now being considered. IWDW 2005 o?ers an opportunity to re?ect upon the state of the art in digital watermarking as well as discuss directions for future research and applications. This year we accepted 31 papers from 74 submissions. This 42% acceptance rate indicates our commitment to ensuring a very high quality conference. We thankthemembersoftheTechnicalProgramCommitteeformakingthispossible by their timely and insightful reviews. Thanks to their hard work this is the ?rst IWDW at which the ?nal proceedings are available to the participants at the time of the workshop as a Springer LNCS publication.
