The Pursuit of Comparative Aesthetics - An Interface Between the East and West (Paperback): Mazhar Hussain The Pursuit of Comparative Aesthetics - An Interface Between the East and West (Paperback)
Mazhar Hussain; Edited by Robert Wilkinson
R1,532 Discovery Miles 15 320 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Comparative aesthetics is the branch of philosophy which compares the aesthetic concepts and practices of different cultures. The way in which cultures conceive of the aesthetic dimension of life in general and art in particular is revelatory of profound attitudes and beliefs which themselves make up an important part of the culture in question. This anthology of essays by internationally recognised scholars in this field brings into one volume some of the most important research in comparative aesthetics, from classic early essays to previously unpublished contemporary pieces. Ranging across cultures and time periods as diverse as ancient Greece, India and China and the modern West and Japan, the essays reveal both similarities and deep differences between the aesthetic traditions concerned. In the course of these expositions and comparisons there emerges the general conclusion that no culture can be fully grasped if its aesthetic ideas are not understood.

Man has always been facinated by the diversity of life. Huminity derived all of its food and many medicines and industrial products from wild and domesticated plant life. Kashmir is bestowed with a unique biodiversity comprising of different climatic zones and wide range of plant species. Plants are crucial for the diversity of terrestrial life. The medicinal values of plants play vital role in general health of mankind. Allopathic drugs cause many side effects as compared to the extracts of medicinal plants. All indigenous remedies, whether traditional or modern, have originated directly or indirectly from folklore and rituals or measuring hold to the treasure of folk medicinal knowledge and ethnomedical botany. With rapid population growth and the experience of economic development by the means of outside interventions, the natural habitats have already been destroyed to considerable extent. This situation is particularly critical in the Himalayan region that is documented in this work.Conservation of biodiversity calls for both global attention and prompt action at regional level also.

Radionuclides and Nuclear Data (Paperback): Mazhar Hussain, H. C. Qaim, Sandor Sudar Radionuclides and Nuclear Data (Paperback)
Mazhar Hussain, H. C. Qaim, Sandor Sudar
R1,680 Discovery Miles 16 800 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

To establish a nuclear data group for medical applications in Pakistan is the major aim of our group. The idea of establishing such a group was given by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. (mult.) Syed M. Qaim (Professor of nuclear chemistry, institute fur Nuklearchemie, Forschungszentrum Julich, Germany and Hon. Professor of Physics at GCU Lahore). International collaboration has been established with the Institute of Experimental Physics, University of Debrecen (Hungary). EMPIRE training was arranged for nuclear model calculations at the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Now, the aim of involving the local bodies in multidisciplinary applications of nuclear data is in the way. The nuclear reaction cross section data relevant to the production of radionuclides in cyclotrons and at accelerators need more attention. The radionuclides are in practice for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The tumors are successfully detected by the emitted radiations and then the therapeutic techniques are adopted for their treatment. Nuclear science is for the peace of mankind.

Exploring the Combining Abilities in Tomato (Paperback): Muhammad Mazhar Hussain, Muhammad Azmat, Saqlain Ahmed Exploring the Combining Abilities in Tomato (Paperback)

COMBINING ABILITY ANALYSIS, IS BEING WIDELY UTILIZED BY PLANT BREEDERS, FOR BEST COMBINATION ANALYSIS IN DIFFERENT CROPS. TOMATO, AS GROWN IN ALL PARTS OF THE WORLD, NEEDS CONTINUOUS SELECTION FOR VARYING ENVIRONMENTS AND CHANGING CLIMATIC CONDITIONS. ALSO, THE GERM PLASM CONSERVATION IS MAIN OBJECTIVE FOR UTILIZING IN BREEDING PROGRAMS. HERE COMBINING ABILITY OF DIFFERENT PARENTS HAS BEEN EXPLORED FOR YIELD AND ENVIRONMENTAL STABILITY OF HYBRIDS FOR SUSTAINABLE CROP PRODUCTION. DIFFERENT TRAITS, INFLUENCING YIELD AND ENVIRONMENTAL STABILITY HAS BEEN CHECKED USING GCA AND SCA ANALYSIS.
