Die Begegnung von Martin Luther und dem päpstlichen Legaten Thomas de Vio Cajetan im Anschluss an den Augsburger Reichstag von 1518 war ein bedeutsames Ereignis der frühen Reformationsgeschichte. Mit Cajetan trat dem Wittenberger Reformator erstmals ein Theologe gegenüber, der die Konsequenzen von Luthers früher Buß- und Rechtfertigungstheologie erkannte. Der vorliegende Band stellt den Versuch dar, die in den letzten Jahren in Bewegung geratene Cajetan- und Lutherforschung produktiv zusammenzuführen. Dabei wird das Aufeinandertreffen der beiden Theologen vor allem im Blick auf ihre Denk-, Lebens- und Glaubenszusammenhänge rekonstruiert.
