Shakespeare Vs Cthulhu An anthologie of fine stories inspir'd by
the Bard of Stratford and the Lovecraftian Mythos Imagine if it had
been William Shakespeare, England's greatest playwright, who had
discovered the truth about the Great Old Ones and the cosmic entity
we know as Cthulhu, rather than the American horror writer H P
Lovecraft. Imagine if Stratford's favourite son had been the one to
learn of the dangers of seeking after forbidden knowledge and of
the war waged between the Elder Gods in the Outer Darkness, and had
passed on that message, to those with eyes to see it, through his
plays and poetry. Welcome to the world of Shakespearean Cthulhu! To
mark the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare,
Snowbooks proudly presents fifteen stories of eldritch horror that
blend the Bard's most famous plays with Lovecraft's most terrifying
creations. But before you dip into this cursed tome, be warned -
that way madness lies...
Dr. Robert Melendez is a gifted plastic surgeon that can transform
lives with the power of a scalpel. Known as the miracle worker, he
starts working with criminals, providing them new faces. But he
soon allows ego and greed to overshadow his talent by blackmailing
these same criminals, threatening to reveal their true identities
if he isn't paid additional money for his services. Robert's plan
flourishes until he ends up dead, found beside the corpse of a
woman believed to be his wife. Upon further investigation, however,
it is revealed that the wrong woman has been executed. Once the
mistake is discovered, the murderer sets his sights on Missy,
determined to finish the job. Paralyzed by fear, she's unsure who
to trust. Now, Missy must fight to stay alive as she grapples with
the ?gift? that connects her to Robert's murderer. She has to prove
her innocence in a double homicide, all while fighting her feelings
for the detective who could possibly destroy her.

The year is 2035 and American society is crumbling, the police
force become judge and jury, dispensing justice on the streets.
Police brutality in response to public protests sparks even greater
restrictions on what American citizens are free to do. This is the
horror story of a descent into fascism and the beginnings of the
world of Judge Dredd.
It is well known that in formulating his general theoretical
framework and views on religion Freud drew on multiple disciplines
within the natural and social sciences, as well as from the
humanities. This edited collection adds to the continued
multidisciplinary interest in Freud by focusing on his
understanding and interpretation of_as well as his relationship
to_religion. It 'disciplines' Freud by situating his work on
religion from the methodological interests and theoretical advances
found in diverse disciplinary contexts. Scholars within the field
of religious studies, Jewish Studies, philosophy, and the natural
sciences bring together their diverse voices to heighten the
academic understanding of Freud on religion. The contributors aim
to establish closer and more direct interdisciplinary communication
and collaboration with regard to Freudian Studies. This volume
should appeal to a wide range of scholars, for upper level
undergraduate and graduate classes and those training in
psychoanalysis.

The outer Solar System is rich in resources and may be the best
region in which to search for life beyond Earth. In fact, it may
ultimately be the best place for Earthlings to set up permanent
abodes. This book surveys the feasibility of that prospect,
covering the fascinating history of exploration that kicks off our
adventure into the outer Solar System. Although other books provide
surveys of the outer planets, Carroll approaches it from the
perspective of potential future human exploration, exploitation and
settlement, using insights from today's leading scientists in the
field. These experts take us to targets such as the moons Titan,
Triton, Enceladus, Iapetus and Europa, and within the atmospheres
of the gas and ice giants. In these pages you will experience the
thrill of discovery awaiting those who journey through the giant
worlds and their moons. All the latest research is included, as are
numerous illustrations, among them original paintings by the
author, a renowned prize-winning space artist.
"Little Reef and Other Stories" announces the arrival of an
original voice in literature. From Key West to Maine, Michael
Carroll's debut collection of stories depicts the lives of
characters who are no longer provincial but are not yet
cosmopolitan. These women and their gay male friends are
"B-listers" of a new, ironic, media-soaked culture. They live in a
rich but increasingly divided America, a weirdly paradoxical
country increasingly accepting of gay marriage but still marked by
prejudice, religious strictures, and swaths of poverty and
hopelessness. Carroll shows us people stunned by the shock of the
now, who have forgotten their pasts and can't envision a
future.
World's Changing. Doesn't Mean Dredd Has To. Mega-City One, 2082.
In two short years, Judge Joseph Dredd has tackled hardened killers
and would-be revolutionaries; he's taken beat-downs and bounced
back; and he's even arrested his own brother. There's no such thing
as a "normal year" in the Big Meg. In his third year on the sked,
he'll become embroiled in the growing anti-robot movement; he'll
head back out to the Cursed Earth; and he'll fall afoul of the
secretive SJS - and not for the last time...
You know about me. I'm Rico Dredd, Joe Dredd's big brother. I'm the
clone that went bad, that brought shame on Judge Fargo's legacy. I
was the very best the Academy of Law ever turned out. But after
less than a year on the streets of Mega-City One, I was brought
down, sentenced, shipped out to Titan for twenty years. Yeah, you
know about Rico Dredd. But do you know what really happened? Why I
did it? What it was like out there on the edge of space, doing time
in the Bronze? Truth is, mister, you know stomm about me.
United States of America, 2041 A.D. Eustace Fargo's new justice
system has been in effect for eight years. The old days of waiting
times and backlogs are over: judgement is quick, and sentencing is
instantaneous. The old police academies have all shut down, and the
new order is triumphant. But are things any better? Unrest is worse
than ever. Criminals are more likely to kill rather than be caught.
There's a war coming for the streets...
One wants to preserve history. Another seeks to resurrect a
legendary army. A third plans to infuse the past with technology to
save millions. If you could go back in time, what would you do?
Something strange is going on at ChronoCorp. Coffin-shaped pods and
glowing talismans, feathered dinosaurs and ancient murals; the
private laboratory's quirky scientists have been quite busy,
indeed. The reason? Katya, Xavier, Todd, and colleagues are on a
singular scientific mission: to surpass the limits of modern
physics and unlock the power of time travel. Their early
experiments have proved a resounding success, taking them to
far-flung places in both time and space, from nineteenth-century
New York to ancient Thera. But as their research progresses, the
stakes get ever higher. Enter a world of competing interests and
conflicting timelines, where nothing is quite what it seems. Why is
Xavier acting so oddly? Where exactly did their eccentric
benefactor Mila van Dijk get her wealth? What is the Primus
Imperium, and what does its mysterious head-known only as "The
Ambassador"-want from them? Come along as the colleagues at
ChronoCorp and their ragtag allies race to sew up several
unravelling timelines, battling those who would harm them in the
past and present to preserve what is left of their future.
Mega-City One, 2080. Judge Joe Dredd's first year on the streets as
a full-eagle Judge. Bred for justice, trained in law, Dredd's no
helpless rookie, but he's not the seasoned veteran we know either.
Three tales follow the first adventures of the future city's
greatest lawman. With an introduction by the Mighty Tharg! City
Fathers: The brutal murder of a Justice Department-sanctioned spy
uncovers something new and dangerous in the sector's murky black
market. Unless Dredd can stop it, chaos will be unleashed. Cold
Light of Day: A savage killing spree results in the deaths of two
highly-regarded Judges, and many consider Dredd to be responsible:
a decision he made five years earlier - while he was still a cadet
- has come back to haunt him. Wear Iron: "Wear iron, that's the
rule." Paul Strader is a stick-up man, and a stone cold
professional. But when he gets in over his head, he has to risk
everything on the word of a corrupt lawman and break every rule he
has. Every rule but one...
Oceans were long thought to exist in all corners of the Solar
System, from carbonated seas percolating beneath the clouds of
Venus to features on the Moon's surface given names such as "the
Bay of Rainbows" and the "Ocean of Storms." With the advent of
modern telescopes and spacecraft exploration these ancient concepts
of planetary seas have, for the most part, evaporated. But they
have been replaced by the reality of something even more exotic.
For example, although it is still uncertain whether Mars ever had
actual oceans, it now seems that a web of waterways did indeed at
one time spread across its surface. The "water" in many places in
our Solar System is a poisoned brew mixed with ammonia or methane.
Even that found on Jupiter's watery satellite Europa is believed
similar to battery acid. Beyond the Galilean satellites may lie
even more "alien oceans." Saturn's planet-sized moon Titan seems to
be subject to methane or ethane rainfall. This creates methane
pools that, in turn, become vast lakes and, perhaps, seasonal
oceans. Titan has other seas in a sense, as large shifting areas of
sand covering vast plains have been discovered. Mars also has these
sand seas, and Venus may as well, along with oceans of frozen lava.
Do super-chilled concoctions of ammonia, liquid nitrogen, and water
percolate beneath the surfaces of Enceladus and Triton? For now we
can only guess at the possibilities. 'Alien Seas' serves up part
history, part current research, and part theory as it offers a rich
buffet of "seas" on other worlds. It is organized by location and
by the material of which various oceans consist, with guest authors
penning specific chapters. Each chapter features new original art
depicting alien seas, as well as the latest ground-based and
spacecraft images. Original diagrams presents details of planetary
oceans and related processes.
Titan is practically a planet in its own right, with a diameter
similar to that of Mercury, methane rainstorms, organic soot and
ethane seas. All of the most detailed knowledge on the moon's
geology, volcanology, meteorology, marine sciences and chemistry
are gathered together here to paint a factually accurate
hypothetical future of early human colonization on this strange
world. The views from Titan's Mayda Outpost are spectacular, but
all is not well at the moon's remote science base. On the shore of
a methane sea beneath glowering skies, atmospherics researcher
Abigail Marco finds herself in the middle of murder, piracy and
colleagues who seem to be seeing sea monsters and dead people from
the past. On the Shores of Titan's Farthest Sea provides thrills,
excitement and mystery - couched in the latest science - on one of
the Solar System's most bizarre worlds, Saturn's huge moon Titan.
"This riveting story, set against a plausibly well integrated
interplanetary space, carries us along with its bright and
interesting characters. We feel absolutely transported to a
hauntingly beautiful and alien Titan through Carroll's masterful
weaving of art and science." - Jani Radebaugh, Professor of
Planetary Sciences, Titan dune expert, BYU "It's a fun read! Really
makes Titan come alive, literally..." - Astrophysicist and author
Ralph Lorenz "Michael Carroll's new novel "On the Shores of Titan's
Farthest Sea" (Springer) is a gripping, good-vs-evil tale that
sparkles with imagination. It's set on the shores of Kraken Mare,
the vast methane sea found high in the northern latitudes of
Saturn's moon, Titan, in a future when humanity has spread
throughout the solar system. The villains are wicked, the heroes
are scientists (Thanks, Mike!), the story is convincing, the
dialogue snappy, and the scenery is right out of our catalog of
findings on this cold, hazy and alien world. If you fancy skipping
forward 250 years and checking out how humankind might be
navigating the very geography and landforms we have uncovered in
our years touring Saturn, this book is for you!" --Carolyn Porco,
leader of the Cassini Imaging Science team and the Director of the
Cassini Imaging Central Laboratory for Operations (CICLOPS) at the
Space Science Institute in Boulder, Colorado
How do we, as humans, arrive at what we call morally or ethically
good or bad decisions? What processes are involved in making
ethical decisions? Is there a way to move towards ethical maturity
and how will being ethically mature assist us with any future
decisions we might make? Ethical Maturity in the Helping
Professions provides a comprehensive overview of the most
influential ideas in ethical thinking across the ages and considers
the ethical challenges faced in various contexts of educational,
research, business and organisational sectors. The book reflects on
the history, philosophy and science of ethics through an
interdisciplinary approach and encourages the reader to consider
their own ethical decision-making and the influences which play a
role in shaping them. The authors also introduce a brand new model
for becoming an ethically mature professional. This book is
essential reading for practising and student psychotherapists,
psychologists, counsellors, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses,
health care and allied professionals.
Supervision provides a positive space for compassion, inquiry,
reflection, and above all development. The chapters in this book
are written from a wide range of perspectives, all of which take a
practical approach to supervision and show how transformative it
can be when approached in the right way. Contributions range from
explorations of supervision as a journey of life-long learning and
its place at the heart of practice to chapters on faith,
transformation, dealing with feelings, and working with asylum
seekers and refugees. The multidisciplinary approach covers much
ground not previously touched upon, and every contribution
demonstrates just how powerful and transformational passionate
supervision has the potential to be. This book will be an
invaluable resource for anyone working in the helping professions,
for whom supervision is an integral part of their work.
Using features such as case studies, exercises and points for
reflection, this is an ideal introduction to managing the
supervisory relationship for both trainee and supervisor. This
second edition of the book formerly titled Counselling Supervision
now covers new and contemporary areas of supervision such as
ethical maturity, insights into supervision from neuroscience, the
organisational demands from the various contexts in which
supervision takes place. It widens the concept of supervision to
include professions such as coaching, organisational development
consulting, counselling and psychology.
