The Waves is one of the greatest achievements in modern literature.
Commonly considered the most important, challenging and ravishingly
poetic of Virginia Woolf's novels, it was in her own estimation
'the most complex and difficult of all my books'. This edition will
be the most authoritative, most fully collated and annotated text
available to scholars to date, and for considerable time to come.
It maps the text of The Waves from the first British edition to all
other editions published in Woolf's lifetime, as well as to all
extant proofs. The text is presented in clearly readable form, with
page-by-page direction to emendation, variants, and notes. The
substantial introduction includes a detailed account of the novel's
composition, publication and early critical reception. There are
extensive explanatory notes on the text, a full chronology of
composition and publication and a more general chronology covering
Woolf's life and works.
D. H. Lawrence's best-known late fictions are presented in this
volume, which is dominated by two powerful novellas, The Virgin and
the Gipsy and The Escaped Cock (also known as The Man Who Died). In
the first, a young woman from a restrictive English rectory
discovers further dimensions to life through her contact with a
gipsy; in the second, an unnamed man - in fact Lawrence's vision of
Christ - is resurrected and escapes from his tomb. Both novellas
deal with the themes of escape and sexual awakening, which are
echoed in the four short stories and three fragments also collected
here. This edition restores Lawrence's final texts, before the
changes introduced by censorship, mistakes in transmission and
various other forms of interference, with variants recorded. The
introduction traces the history of the stories, while the notes
offer help with allusions, contexts and other points of potential
difficulty or interest.

This volume contains what Lawrence himself called "philosophicalish" essays written in the decade 1915-25. The topics range from politics to nature, from religion to education; the tone from lighthearted humor to mordant wit, to spiritual meditation. For all these contrasts, however, the essays share many of the underlying themes of the mature Lawrence: "Be thyself" could be the volume's motto. As far as possible, this edition restores what Lawrence wrote before typists, editors, and compositors made the extensive alterations that have been followed in all previous editions of the texts--on occasion entire passages removed by mistake or for reasons of censorship have been recovered. The introduction describes the genesis, textual history, and reception of the essays; notes offer help with allusions and other difficult points. Several incomplete and unpublished essays are reproduced in an appendix.
ANATOMY OF A CRIMINAL INDICTMENT by Michael Keehn is both a true
story and a guide for the individual under an indictment, what to
expect, and what those under indictment can do to help themselves
survive the indictment. The author was under indictment for three
years and very proactive in his own defense. The author shares his
experience with the reader who is seeking guidance in becoming
proactive in his (or her) own defense. The book gives sufficient
background information for the reader to follow and visualize the
path the author traveled to indictment. In short, the author spent
eight years of his life designing a never before existing control
system for a public utility that resulted in an indictment. It is
likely that your attorney will seldom communicate with you in the
early stages, this is normal and will be explained. But it does not
mean that you cannot communicate to him, and do so in a way that
will have lasting impact. Being under an indictment and charged
criminally is a very lonely world. You may well feel like a leper,
alone and isolated from everyone. You may find yourself avoiding
friends because you don't want to tarnish their character with your
own foul coating. In the author's case, he was surprised to find so
many in his community to be very supportive, many of them people he
did not know, but who recognized him from his picture from the
newspaper and stopped to speak with him and offer moral support. In
the beginning there was an initial distrust between defendant and
attorney that slowly builds into trust. And this process can be
seen as the story unfolds. Therefore, expect to be distrusted
unless you are paying the attorney. Even then you may be
distrusted, however, it probably won't be as easily detected. It
was the author's experience that there is tremendous stress the
individual under indictment must endure, not allowing emotions to
render him (or her) immobilized, and although your defense attorney
will probably not help with this issue, this book can help with
that. The author also gives the reader solid examples how to
analyze the various documents filed by government investigators.
Putting the investigative reports and affidavits under a
microscope, and then constructing a report is very beneficial, and
an example of this process is provided. Following the suggestions
for analysis and report construction can be therapeutic. It helps
to relieve tension when, with a critical eye, you begin to see the
errors and oversight the investigators are making. The book may
also be used by a family member or loved one who wishes to help
someone under indictment. Included are elusive and hard to find
legal documents as examples to provide self help guidance for the
pro se / pro per litigant.
This book provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles and practice of book-keeping and accounting. Throughout the text, real-life case studies are used to illustrate principles. There are many practical exercises (with answers) and activities included. A section of GCSE questions is given at the end of the book.
The new edition helps you analyze the factors that determine
whether to choose a real estate workout over bankruptcy or
foreclosure and the leverage lenders have under each possible
scenario. The Second Edition features extensive coverage of
environmental liabilities that may arise under federal statutes and
regulations such as RCRA and CERCLA and how lenders can avoid or
minimize these liabilities. A new chapter has been added on the
state mini-RCRAs and CERCLAs, necessitated by the growing
importance of state environmental laws to real estate financing. A
detailed discussion is presented on the laws and programs that have
been developed to minimize lender liability at brownfields sites in
urban areas. Excellent coverage is provided for such key areas as
prepackaged plans, single asset real estate cases, cash collateral
and adequate protection, deeds in lieu of foreclosure and dealing
with guarantors and other sureties.
