""What I particularly appreciated as I read through these texts is
that each one is an engaging meditation that combines sound
theology with poetic skill. I think they would be an enrichment to
any worshiping community and certainly food for personal reflection
and prayer."" The Most Rev. Frank T. Griswold, Presiding Bishop of
the Episcopal Church Before Michael Hudson was ordained, he was a
successful songwriter in the Contemporary Christian field with 75
hymns to his credit. As his journey led him to become a liberal
Anglican, he turned his considerable skill at matching text and
tune to writing hymn texts. He began a spiritual discipline of
writing a text for each of the gospels of the three-year cycle of
Scripture readings. The result is a collection of 153 beautiful,
evocative, and very singable poetic hymn texts. Each text can be
sung to at least one familiar hymn tune, making the material easily
accessible to congregations. A hymn tune index and a thematic index
provide additional planning possibilities. Based on the Episcopal
lectionary in the Book of Common Prayer, hymn tunes are suggested
for each text and are indexed metrically so that substitutions may
be made when necessary. Songs may be reproduced for congregational
use.
This is a clear guide to the German financial system. It begins
by outlining its historical development, emphasising the growth of
close ties between the banking system and industry, and goes on to
describe in details the nature of the credit institutions in
general and the money and capital markets.
The book emphasizes the crucial role played by the autonomy of
the Bundesbank and it explains with clear illustrations the
instruments available to it to conduct monetary policy. It analyses
the type of monetary target adopted by the Bundesbank in the early
1970s and deals with the transferability of the West German
financial system to other countries. Wherever relevant, parallels
and differences between that system and the ones operating in the
US and UK are pointed out.
The Dark Side of Reform: Exploring the Impact of Public Policy on
Racial Equity contains nine chapters on the development of social
policies with the potential to advance racial equity. In addition
to studying these policies and their implications, the chapters in
this volume demonstrate how lessons from the past can be used to
inform the direction of current discussions. At the heart of these
conversations are concerns about whether Black people, in
particular, will receive the full benefit of transformative laws
that may emerge in the coming years. The volume also offers
recommendations on implementing policies that address the unique
concerns of structurally disadvantaged communities with particular
emphasis on Black and Latinx people.

Men today have locked horns with their toughest issue: reclaiming
the full potential of manhood. Bestselling author Dr. Larry Crabb
asks, What gives manhood definition and meaning? In this updated
and expanded edition of The Silence of Adam, Crabb and his
colleagues, biblical scholar Don Hudson and counselor Al Andrews,
offer a fresh look at how God designed men. The book deals
thoughtfully and honestly with men's ongoing struggles and exposes
the difficulties they have in relationships. It presents the rich
calling men have to reveal God in ways uniquely masculine. And it
summons them beyond their paralyzing fear of failure to bold
risk-taking, courageous action, deep spirituality, and full-hearted
living. This new edition includes: Epilogue from Dr. Larry Crabb

The second volume in an ongoing series sponsored by the Institute
for the Study of Long-Term Economic Trends (ISLET), "Urbanization
and Land Ownership in the Ancient Near East" examines the impact of
debt, private land ownership, and urbanization on ancient
societies. Evidence of privatization of land is supported by
archaeological data, surviving documents, and financial records.
This volume contains three sets of papers ranging from the Ice Age
through early Egypt and Bronze Age Sumer, Babylonia, and Israel,
given by archaeologists, economists, Assyriologists, and
Egyptologists. The first set of papers deals with the social
cosmology of early urban areas as ritual centers. The second set
focuses on the physical archaeology of Near Eastern cities and
reconstructs their land-use patterns. The final set examines what
Assyriologists have been able to extract from the cuneiform record
concerning urban land use, land tenure, and the emergence of real
estate as something privately owned and transferable. One of the
most valuable parts of this volume is the oral discussion of each
paper by the participants. Highlighting the different methodologies
used in each discipline and the difficulties in establishing a
common vocabulary, these discussions raise universal questions
concerning ancient economies and their relevancy to long-term
economic trends. The first volume in this series was "Privatization
in the Ancient Near East and Classical World," edited by Michael
Hudson and Baruch A. Levine (Peabody Museum Bulletin 5, ISBN
0-87365-955-4).
