In Tumor Targeting in Cancer Therapy, Dr. Michel Page and a panel
of authoritative experts from the drug industry, clinics, and
academia introduce the principles and techniques of tumor targeting
and critically survey their applications from laboratory to
bedside. By concisely synthesizing the many technical details, the
authors illuminate this innovative technique, ranging from the
fundamentals of drug targeting and in vivo and in vitro
experimentation, to such emerging therapeutic uses as
radioimmunotherapy, radioimmunodetection, therapy with cytotoxic
antibodies, immunotoxins, enzyme prodrug immunotherapy, and
immunotherapeutics with fusion proteins. There are also reviews of
targeting tumors with radioimmunoconjugates, photodynamic therapy,
and magnetic drugs, as well as discussions of the internalization
of antibodies, bioconjugation and biodistribution, the use of
cytotoxic drugs, and the pros and cons of targeting by antibody or
ligand.

No society can escape population ageing. This demographic
phenomenon has profound social consequences on the lifestyles of
individuals and societies. In the light of the accelerated ageing
of the Mediterranean area, the analyses which inform this work aim
to understand how the age-related policies of Nation-States are
partly responsible for the behaviours of the generations. They also
highlight how the lifestyle changes are the result of trends which
are common to these societies. The Mediterranean area constructed
here by the researchers offers an in-depth reflection on the
national cases presented, in terms of their specificities or
societal singularities, as well as of their dynamics of
convergence. Drawing on empirical research in sociology,
demography, geography and economics, exploiting the most recent
data available and setting the present in historical perspective,
Ageing, Lifestyles and Economic Crises studies Mediterranean
societies in relation to three major challenges which they now
confront. These are: population ageing and its implications in
terms of intergenerational family support relationships;
increasingly insecure adult professional trajectories and their
consequences for the evolution of social gender roles, in an
economic context commonly referred to as a 'crisis'; and lastly the
role of Nation-States' public policies in the social reproduction
of these gender inequalities. These three issues are the keystone
to understanding the ongoing transformations in the lifestyles and
life cycles of Mediterranean societies. This volume marshals a
wealth of recent data that will be useful not only to many
academics and scientists but also to local and national
policy-makers.
What exactly is the Human Mind? Unique in this entire world, yes,
but how exactly does it work, what exactly is it made of? Where
exactly is it? And the question the author poses is-is your
thinking mind actually what the Bible refers to as your spiritual
soul? And if it really is a spiritual soul, can it really survive
mortal death? What force powers it? Just flesh and blood, or is
there some other invisible divine force behind its incredible
powers? The author confesses to having been born into this life
complete with memories of several previous lives. It was after
these previous lives that he also remembers being born, literally
remembering being squeezed out of his mother's womb! And if that is
not amazing enough, he also truly believes that he can remember
being conceived in his mother's womb. A dramatic out-of-body
experience has given the author confirmation that your id, your
inner being and your purest spiritual form, can and will survive
outside the-body, quite independently, without any body mass...The
author was once a sailor on a Tall Sailing Ship and recalls
drowning in the cold sea, and later, in another life, he recalls
serving as a Solider in the First World War, and so is able to
theorise how, when the time comes, one can cheat Death. ..
The military toll of World War I is widely known: millions of
Britons were mobilised, many thousands killed or wounded, and the
landscape of British society changed forever. But how was the
conflict experienced by the people of Surrey on the home front?
Surrey Heritage's project Surrey in the Great War: A County
Remembers has, over the four-year centenary commemoration, explored
the wartime stories of Surrey's people and places. The project's
discoveries are here captured through text, case studies and
images. This book chronicles the mobilisation of Surrey men, the
training of foreign troops in the county, objection to military
service, defence against invasion, voluntary work and fundraising,
the experiences of women and children, shortages, industrial supply
to the armed forces and the commemoration of Surrey's dead. Drawing
heavily on the rich archives of Surrey Heritage, it is an engaging
exploration of a county in the shadow of the first globalised war
between industrialised nations.
