Das öffentliche Interesse an der Debatte über die Rekonstruktion von Baudenkmalen könnte erlahmen, nachdem es konservativen Politikern, Sprechern von konservativen pressure groups, Tourismusmanagern und insbesondere den Machern der Ausstellung „Geschichte der Rekonstruktion – Konstruktion der Geschichte“, Pinakothek der Moderne (München, 22. Juli - 31.Oktober 2010) gelungen zu sein scheint, sie als müßigen Prinzipienstreit unter Denkmalpflegern zu marginalisieren. Wozu, könnte die Rekonstruktionslobby fragen, eine Debatte fortsetzen, nachdem doch weithin Einverständnis darüber zu herrschen scheint, daß die Rekonstruktion untergegangener Bausubstanz einfach eine Selbstverständlichkeit ist? Die in der Reihe Bauwelt Fundamente erscheinende Publikation gegen das Rekonstruieren von Baudenkmalen tritt dem Mainstream in streitbarer Absicht entgegen. Als Plädoyer gegen die Simulation historischer Bausubstanz will sie die Rekonstruktionsdebatte in der Bundesrepublik inhaltlich beleben.
