This second volume of the Gospels contains approx. 1,600 comparative texts on the Gospel of John on the basis of the sources in J. J. Wettstein (ed.), Novum Testamentum Graecum, Amsterdam 1751/52. In addition to the most important parallels of Wettstein, numerous other texts are included. All comparative texts as a rule are extensively cited in German, and they are situated within their context. The central parallels are added either in their Greek or Latin original text. Modern standard editions serve as the textual basis so that the passages cited can easily be found by the user. Each text is preceded by a short introduction which clarifies the context of the passage. Finally, notes are made available to the reader which allow a better understanding of the text cited. The volume concludes with a supplementary listing of the cited Greek and Latin authors and their works, an index of passages, as well as indexes of concepts and subjects. Volume I/1 of the Neuer Wettstein (Texts on the Synoptic Gospels) is being prepared at the Corpus Hellenisticum in Halle and will presumably be published in 2002. Volume III (Acts) will conclude the complete work.

Die Lehrer, das Schwulenpaar Punetazos und Balakrishna, sind dunkle Gestalten mit dubiosen Verbindungen zu den Meetings der Luxusyachten auf der Libyschen See Isolde und Alphons sowie Adamantia und Fanis (die den Meuchelmordern entkommen konnten), sind Stavros auf den Fersen. Unterstutzt von der kretischen Polizei. 5. Akt: Inzwischen wird deutlich, dass Stavros und die Tango-Yoga-Lehrer Marionetten an den Faden ganz anderer Dunkelmanner sind. How do we stand in relation to everything that comes down to us from the past? Is the very idea of tradition still useful in the wake of historical ruptures, such as the Holocaust, changes in the canon, and the end of colonialism? The concept of tradition has gained renewed importance in recent cultural studies. Suspicion of tradition as culturally narrow and oppressive is a persistent theme of modernity and has increased lately with the resurgence of religious traditionalism around the globe. At the same time, various groups demanding recognition for their distinctive cultural identity have reclaimed their traditions. Philosophers from Josiah Royce and Hans-Georg Gadamer to Alasdair MacIntyre have explored the relations between tradition and themes such as freedom, community, self-assertion, originality, and the shared values and interpretations that constitute everyday life. The essays in this volume offer varying, even disparate analyses of religious, literary, and cultural traditions and both responses and resistance to them in a variety of philosophers, novelists, and theologians.
