Conceptual Issues in Psychological Medicine is a collection of
papers written by the celebrated psychiatrist, Michael Shepherd,
who was one of the originators of psychiatric epidemiology in the
UK and a leading social psychiatrist of his generation. He designed
and implemented some of the first systematic studies into what are
now widely recognised clinical syndromes. His extensive research
experience and his advocacy of a scientific approach to social
psychiatry form the basis of the essays contained in this book.
Covering such issues as the development of research strategy and
the difficulties involved in completing psychiatric studies,
Shepherd's papers address many of the issues currently facing
professionals in this field. He writes authoritatively and
engagingly on clinical syndromes, the history of ideas and the use
of the epidemiological approach in psychiatry. Conceptual Issues in
Psychological Medicine stimulates and informs the reader in equal
measure; it will be a welcome addition to the bookshelf of any
practitioner of medicine.

First published in 1982, this volume presents a conspectus of the
opinions of twelve distinguished psychiatrists on the nature and
implications of their own discipline. The essays as a whole vividly
convey the diversity of experience and outlook characterising an
internationally representative group of practitioners of
psychological medicine. At the same time they indicate the issues
and concepts which need to be clarified if the subject is to
achieve its potential.
The books of the twelve Minor Prophets are some of the least
studied by Christians today, but they contain some of the great
themes of Scripture, such as God's mercy and judgment, His covenant
with Israel, the day of the Lord, and the coming of the Messiah.
Arguing for a canonical unity that recognises the Minor Prophets as
one cohesive composition, Michael Shepherd explains the historical
meaning of each verse of the twelve books and also provides
guidance for application and preaching. Pastors, teachers, and
serious students of Scripture will find a wealth of insights for
understanding the Minor Prophets.

Just when you think you've got it made... Hard-headed, quick-fisted
and sometimes as funny as he thinks he is, small-town Maine private
detective Paul Doyle is equally adept at throwing haymakers and
one-liners. But when his go-for-broke style fails to produce
missing stripper Cherry Delight, Doyle realizes it'll take more
than a string of snappy quotes to save her. He'll have to think his
way through this case, and thinking has never been his strong suit.
As the bullets fly and a trail of bodies appear to be linked to
Cherry's disappearance, Doyle believes he's getting close to the
truth. And he knows he may be the next one in the killer's
crosshairs.
